  1. Nice looking build! I have a long story, so skip it if you want. We bought a 96 Grand Cherokee in that dark green color about eight years ago for our son when he started driving. Had to rebuild the transmission and the A/C never worked which sucks in 110 degree Texas summers, but it carried him through High School. About that time I came across two of the Tamiya Grand Cherokees and bought them with the idea of building a model of his, but I never got around to it. Maybe I need to dig one of them out some day. Eventually we passed the real one on to a friend whose 3 year old Rogue puked up its CVT transmission. She used it for two years until she could afford something new and then passed it on. The last I heard it was still trucking along.
  2. When I was little, my dad had a Mattel Vac Form and a tiny lathe that could do brass and aluminum. He was an aircraft mechanic so he used the full size versions and somewhere he got these for his hobby building. I would love to have those tools now!
  3. As with Danbury Mint, once the tooling got to China, it stays in China. If I remember right, Danbury sent their tooling there to save money. The situation seemed to work for them until with no notice, Chinese officials took the tools and passed them on to a Chinese company to reuse, essentially put an end to Danbury's diecast car business.
  4. I got paint on the replacement body shell a few days go and it's dry! I used the last of the Go Mango, but it came out pretty nice. I also built a round fuel cell to fit the spare tire well. It's based one from a 70's SCCA racer. I planned to use the kit's roll bar, but went a different way. The new one has a lot more detail and looks better to me.
  5. I got the roll bar done and in place. I planned to use the one provided with the kit, but like this one more. I also built a round fuel cell to go in the spare tire well. It's based on one I saw in an old SCCA photo. I figure that along with the stock tank should be enough to allow for a decent range. And finally, I got the new shell back from the paint shop. I used up the last of the Go Mango, so I'll have to be extra careful with this one!
  6. I got some parts for my Cannonball entry from Etsy. Got a pair of binoculars, a cassette recorder, and some assorted things that would have been used in 1975.
  7. I got started on one, even painted the body to match my 2024 Cannonball entry, then I got distracted. Maybe this year I'll get it done.
  8. Yes, those streamliners are close to 1/32nd scale, but they're still big enough to hold a 1/25th flathead and a driver.
  9. Another daily driver here in central Texas. Another no-rust survivor, the paint is weathered but looks original.
  10. I wouldn't say no to a Harry Potter Anglia and Hagrid 's motorcycle and sidecar in 1/24th! Maybe a first gen Escort as well.
  11. I was wondering the same thing. The only Go Kart I can remember Revell having was the Malibu Raceway car.
  12. I got the new body shell prepped and painted. Used the last of the Go Mango, but I made it. Looking at the picture I can see a sink mark I missed, but I'll have to let it go since I can't repaint again.
  13. Hopefully back on track! I prepped and primed the new bodyshell Tuesday when it was 45 outside so the primer took a while to dry. Today we hit 64 with sun so I warmed up the paint and went to work. I had just enough of the Model Masters Go Mango to do the new body shell. I'll have be careful not to burn through the paint when polishing. It went pretty smooth, so fingers crossed!
  14. I like it, it comes in just the right amounts for the castings I do and the price seems decent. I've used it before and never had an problems.
  15. When we lived in Austin, Texas a few years ago, there were four hobby shops and many Hobby Lobbys in the area so I bought a lot of clearance kits when I had the money. Now they are coming in handy.
  16. That's a good suggestion, I'll have to try it.
  17. One step forward after a big fall back. When I was looking for an entry, I pulled the three Golf kits I had. In retrospect, it's lucky I had something to fall back on. The Revell kit is its own tool, and a much more advanced kit. As you can see, the AMT Rabbit is a repop of the original 1970s ESCI kit. The AMT rerelease shows it's age a little. Where the original ESCI body was smooth with no sink marks, the newer release has a sink mark on each corner and some rough patches on the rear hatch that look like maybe the mold had some rust? Anyway, I did some filling and sanding and shot a coat of Duplicolor Sandable primer so we'll see how it goes. As the temperatures are in the 40s, it's going to take some time to dry.
  18. Definitely in the sanding process. Maybe its just built up over time and finally hit a noticeable level.
  19. It takes patience, but cut as closely as you can. I bought a pair of those cheap dollar store reader glasses in the strongest lens they had. It helps a lot. I bought some good quality fingernail scissors both curved and straight from Amazon and they work well. They might be Fiskars, I can't remember. Speaking of Keith Marks decals, are they opaque? I bought some from a different seller on eBay a while back and they let the paint colors show through.
  20. Nice finds! I've had the Cheetah on my watch list for ages but they always sell for too much!
  21. I cast resin parts occasionally but last month I bought a casting kit from Hobby Lobby which is what I've used before, and seem to have had problems. I cast and sand the parts using protection, a mask, avoid dust, etc. and never noticed any issues before, but this time it seems to have caused an allergic reaction. My nose got stuffy within a half hour and I felt like I had a cold for several days. The question, I guess, is there any other type of easily gotten resin that isn't the standard Alumalite type? I don't use enough to buy a large quantity. Any tips appreciated.
