I never knew that existed. I must acquire that. Thanks for the heads up!

Agreed. A light coat of gray primer will help you see anything you might have missed earlier. This happens a lot with repeated repops.

Thanks all! I painted the rear quarter vents that I missed before, so I'll put up a couple more pix when I get a free moment. Appreciate the comments!- 37 replies

Ha ha! Yeah, I could probably weather that up as well since I did so much to the body. It definitely looks a little awkward like that. Thanks! SIDE NOTE: I could've weathered the interior as well. It's pretty clean for an autocrosser.

Incredible Galaxie! I'd love to build one of these as a Fire Chief car. Good work!

I must build a few Euro cars at some point. Excellent work on these!

One last note: The only thing I'm missing in this is the rear air dam scoop for the engine bay. If anyone has an F-1 kit in 1:32 scale they are looking to be rid of then let me know. I imagine the smaller-sized kit would have an air scoop that would look about right for the back of the car. If you look closely at the first pic in this thread you can see it poking out behind the rear quarter window on the 1:1 car.

Japanese Nostalgic Car decal in both rear quarter windows... Shot of the interior... Another shot of the rear deck... And undercarriage... The rear deck can be popped open to show off the engine bay, but the intercooler sits high up on the block, almost against it. Rather than risk cutting into the "rear hood" to open/close the bay, I left it like it was and will probably never pop it open again. So, here's a parting shot of the engine in the back before the body went on it... Now, the Tamiya Flat Black was "too clean" for the right look of the paint so I scratched my head trying to figure out how to make it more hap-hazard. Then, while looking over some parts I hand painted earler on, I saw that the bottle Flat Black was duller and put out a rougher look than the spraycan. So I grabbed a good-sized brush, dipped it in the bottle, and tested out my theory on the hood at first. MUCH MORE REALISTIC LOOKING. What does everyone think?

The 1:1 car I was going for... The finished product, weathered and ready for another run... Plates are just a hair bigger than I was looking for... ohh well.... TRD stickers on bumper.. "Free Candy Car Club" decal in window, along with vintage Japanese "experienced driver" logo in window...

Cool! This one is also yellow plastic, so using primer first is a must. Test fitting the completed chassis... I was disappointed by the lack of interior floor pans in this kit, so I created my own. This will also help the doors, panel, and dashboard sit together rather nicely... Some shots of the engine bay... Seats and interior panels installed....

This is a build of a friend of mine's car from our car club here in VA. He uses the car for daily driving as well as autocrossing, so I want to make it look real good. His car... Rattle can flat black... Should be pretty straightfoward.

You mean the 4-scallop vents in the upper back corner of the car? Yup, Googled it and just saw a pic I hadn't seen before, they are flat black. No problem, I'll go back and correct it tomorrow. Shouldn't take more than a few minutes tops! Of course, my hand wasn't steady enough to attempt to run a black edge around the crease in the center of each door window, so those will have to stay like they are... (and I don't want to have to take apart this car to do 'em inside either!)- 37 replies

I had been out of the model business for a LONG TIME before I picked it back up several years ago (2009 ~2010). So when I made up my mind to try it again I took myself down to the LHS, walked through the model car aisle, and tried to decide which one I wanted to get. I wanted something in a Mopar flavor since I was always a Dodge/Plymouth man from years back, and I also wanted to do one that I never had tried before. Having been out of practice for so long, I was COMPLETELY out of touch with the modelling scene in regards to tips, tricks, and tool preparedness, not to mention a miniscule area with which I had set aside for my hobby rebirth. Mind you all, I was a mediocre builder at best in my youth, more suited to snap kits than anything else. I even avoided spraypaints and did ALL my car bodies with enamel brush painting. That being said, I knew NOTHING about puttying, sanding, or body customization. So I made my choice... It looked so pretty on the front of the box. And it very nearly became MY LAST MODEL KIT EVER. The only two surviving pictures of that build, before I dismantled the thing for parts....

Who in the BLAZES did you channel at the Impala plant in the past to build something like this? This car is going to be SICK!

I didn't think this car COULD get any prettier.... How wrong I was... WOW!

I would never worry about "bench time". It obviously spent the right amount of time being built to look as awesome as this. And again, another great color choice for all of these recent models I've been seeing lately. I need to step up my game some more. Beautiful work!

My grandfather had a number of them, the last one was the late 70's. He stopped getting them when they went FWD subcompact, he said they didn't have any "heart" after that.

That green is sweet. I love seeing vintage cars in as-close to or exact colors of the period like this. I need to use more colors like that. Very cool!

It's not finished yet... it needs fuzzy dice. The pattern is fantastic!
