Revell parts pack Triumph
Mike Kucaba replied to MAGNUM4342's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I was under the impression that Reps and Miniatures bike was the bike that came as bonus parts in select kits during 1962,and then later the entire bike came with a truck kit. The Revell Harley is indeed the rarer or most desirable, but for a collector who knows, maybe their first bike was the Honda they did. I've had the triumph show bike on the swap tables and couldn't get $50 for it,not even an offer. -
Cars that killed their "parents"...

I agree Bill, but it's kinda like a shapely woman.... The rearview is stunning, but the front ...... -

The Studebaker/Packard merger was referred to as "two drunks trying to help each other across the street" -

If those are bright red(they look pinkish on my monitor) they are indeed Atlas brush co. -
" I would like a normal kind of contact." You've got 28 posts, your in The Netherlands.... I do hope you check all the threads about this business, and the proprietor.

If you have the bucks I've seen a 1/24th Harrier jet. Can't vouch for the accuracy of the jkets though. I always seem to get out bid.

I don't recommend Windex. I'd use windshield washer fluid, the blue tint doesn't affect anything. For Tamiya paints,I'd only use their thinner. I only use the pharmaceutical alcohols for cleaning the AB. For thinning and spraying,I use denatured alcohol(except for Tamiya). Tamiya has the clear of choice for me,also Future. I also use some retarders and flow aids by Liquitex for spraying and brushing acrylics.

I tried to list some kits(about 40) on emodelcars. I could not download my photo(only one) as it was 5,943.81 KBYTES. the limit is 250KBYTES. So how would a good analogy of this be in size relation to a car.(something I understand) Yes I'm having problems with listing on emodelcars. Yes I know it's FREE. I would rather have it easier and pay.

Primer with Semi Gloss
Mike Kucaba replied to Johnny Racer's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
My general rule is prime everything, even semi gloss or flat black benefit from it as I have had both appear blotchy without it. -
That's one of the reasons I like that putty for some specific uses. In using up some 3 tubes over the years, I have found that a puddle of putty about the size of a quarter,to a spot about the size of a pea or less is a good start. This polyester putty is not like the more common one (evercoat,3MBondo etc) doesn't kick quite as fast. I usually give it a good 24 hours.

I recently took pics of a lot of my models that I usually take to shows. They are in 4ftx4ft wooden boxes on casters. Can I post a pic of each box and let a potential buyer pick and choose which one (or more) kits they would like to purchase? I'm not sure about this. I don't want to post each and everyone as a separate item/auction. They would be priced all the same and all sealed kits if that helps.

Fujimi 1/24 Ferrari 250 GTO Chassis # 3505
Mike Kucaba replied to johnwitzke's topic in WIP: Model Cars
What or where are some good sources for this info, especially book form. I do remember that MRRN did some reference on these cars(I think). I have this Mag in digital form so I'll be looking at that. Thank you for your reply. -
Fujimi 1/24 Ferrari 250 GTO Chassis # 3505
Mike Kucaba replied to johnwitzke's topic in WIP: Model Cars
This has been an interesting thread and it looks like a great compendium of information could be gleaned from it. I'd like to see where the various 250 GTO's that have been kitted over the years rate as to accuracy and what cars built from the box could be done. For instance, the Testor's/Italeri kit. What chassis number does this represent, how accurate is the body, and what could be done to accurize it. This could be done for the various other kits out there. Sounds like a lot of work, but might work up into a good magazine article? Maybe Huh Huh. -
any good airbrushes?
Mike Kucaba replied to derby1018's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Juat about any airbrush is way better than a spray can. It does have a learning curve and some do trick paint better than others. -
Castrol Super Clean or Simple Green
Mike Kucaba replied to Nick Winter's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
X2 on this. also look for Dawn Power dissolver . Good stuff for those stubborn paints applied over bare plastic. -
"I've heard of acrylic clears being used to install model headlights & other "glass", but I'm not sure I'd have much confidence in its ability to hold beading wire in a semi-contorted shape as shown in the 1:1 picture I posted. Are you suggesting the CA glue might cause a problem?" Well CA could fog/burn the finished paint. A quick spritz of Future would prevent that.

What to do about dust specks
Mike Kucaba replied to Miatatom's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
A few tips about using a tack rag. Cut the thing into a size that suits the scale of the model your working on,and kind of work the thing into a ball then unfold it and refold it to a small pad like thing and wipe the model down gently. Also there are tack rags specifically made for paint refinishing, and a different kind for wood working. Usually the one to get is blue.
