  1. I've mentioned this particular kit a few times , especially recently : - 1973 / 1974 Road Runner . It's all there , factory-style decals and all . I've given up on the 1971-1972 Road Runner ever being reissued ; ostensibly , the moulds were destroyed some how . The 1977-1978 Monaco would be such an easy kit to reissue with normal-sized wheels and tyres : simply pluck the steel wheels and tyres from the Chevy Van kit(s) , and drop 'em in the Monaco !
  2. - MPC 1973-1975 Duster - MPC 1971-1974 Camaro - MPC 1975-1977 Ventura - MPC 1978 Chevy Pick Up with the 2-wheel-drive parts restored !! - 1978 Ford Econoline - MPC 1975-1978 Monza with the newer Pro Stock chassis which is sans moulded-on exhaust - MPC 1978 Monaco Police Car without the Dukes of Hazzard livery ; and , put a set of normal-sized tyres and wheels in there - AMT 1967 Barracuda ( or at least add the Slant Six and Hemi engines to the 1969 kit )
  3. I've proposed this before -- including via hand-written letters and emails to Revell , et al. -- a few times over the years , and I seriously doubt that it'll ever see the light of day ; to wit : - "Generic" 1970-1972 Duster body shell (think : plastic equal to the 'Body-In-White' deal from the factory) ; - Separate-purchase 1970 , 1971 , 1972 trim that's specific to the subjective year(s) ; - Engine options of : Slant Six , small V8 , big block , and Hemi (essentially , Hemi parts for the big block engine ) ; - Transmission choices of : 3-speed manual , 4-speed manual , 904 , and 727 ; - Rear diff choices of : 83/4 and Dana 60 ; - Stock and period-correct custom wheels & tyres ; - Other period-correct performance parts ( e.g. , Direct Connection rocker arm covers and air cleaner ; Hurst Dual-Gate shifter & console ) . Reasonable ? No. Way. ________________________________________________________________________ Now , on to realistic proposals : - Large-scale ( 1/16 , 1/12 , or 1/8 ) 1971-1972 Road Runner , 1968-1970 Charger . - 1968 Nova SS with 350 and 396 options ; 4-speed or TH-400 . - 1968-1969 Chevelle SS or COPO . - 1964 Chevelle 300 two door wagon ( I-6 and 327 options ). - Comet , Maverick , Demon , Duster , Dart Sport , Hornet , and Vega in Pro Stock livery .
  4. I should have qualified my reverence of Duplicolor Chrome by stating that , yes , a base-coat is necessary . However , unlike Alclad , the base-colour does not affect the outcome of the aerosol (spray can) chrome . I've tried different colours as bases ; zinc yellow , flat black , gloss black , grey , blue , etc. , etc. , with each one resulting in a beautiful chrome finish . That point , along with its quick flash-time and dry-time , and its durability , are its selling points ( plus , Alclad seems so tedious and temperamental ... and it exhibits mediocre results ) .
  5. That's a fantastic Porsche , Bill ! Great job ! So , the 2 millimetre pen it is then . ( side bar : I've used Duplicolor [ et al. ] aerosol Chrome , and it works and looks great ! I've used it on transmission pans , oil pans , bumpers , etc. , etc. , and it is super . Additionally ; it can be handled in short order , too . Its flash-time is quick ; and , the finish is quite durable [ i.e. , can be handled numerous times without marring or compromising the finish ] . ) Thanks again , guys !
  6. Very good , sir ! Thanks much for your experiment , and for the well-wishes . Same to you and yours
  7. Nice ! I think that once I get myself some reading glasses , I'll be able to go back to real detailling . Is the 1 millimetre too small for window trim ?
  8. Nice trad Lowrider ! Reminds me of my childhood --- used to see Lowriders all over . Also nice to see wheels that aren't Daytons !
  9. What's a good size for windscreen and backlite trim on a 1/25 scale kit ? It would seem that the 1 millimetre is ostensibly the best choice (?) Do the pens themselves come with ink (paint ?) in them already ? Separate cartridge with purchase ? Would love to buy one-each of all of the sizes , but I'm a financially-poor Blue Collar meathead who's trying to make it in California (where one has to be a millionaire to "get-by") .
  10. I miss GEMCO ( Government Employees' Membership COmpany , if I remember its acronym correctly ) . I used to frequent the Downey , Ca. , location (opened in 1969 , I believe) as well as the La Mirada store (don't recall when that one opened) with my parents . I bought countless AMT and MPC kits there with my allowance ! Perhaps it was the times , but I remember GEMCO being clean and well-maintained , as opposed to the seizure-inducing , greasy , obnoxious environment of Walmart .
  11. Man , that is a beauty ! The 1968-1972 Corvette is my second-favourite of the lineage ( first being the 1953-1957 , with an emphasis on the 1955-1957 ; and finally , the 1984-1990 in third-place ) . I've been toying with the idea of buying this kit , admittedly to use its Tri-Power setup on a pending 1969 Camaro "RS" COPO build . Naturally , I'd build the 'Vette as well , albeit in single-four barrel livery . But , I digress ... Your 'vette is incredible ! "Fathom Green" is a gorgeous colour ; it plays well with light sources . Keep 'em coming !
  12. That 1970 Super Bee is a "factory-kitbash" consisting of the original , c.1969 MPC annual tooling ( everything except the engine compartment and chassis / suspension , tyres / wheels , and 440 engine / 4 speed transmission ) and c.1989 AMT Road Runner / GTX chassis , 440 / 4-speed , etc. , etc. , as mentioned above . I don't believe that the original AMT corporation ever made any 1968-1970 Dodge or Plymouth B-bodies ; those were MPC and Jo-Han kits .
  13. The wheels I have ( from Fireball Models , A/K/A Chief Joseph ) are plain steel wheels in (scale) 15"x6" front , and 15"x9" rear . I will likely go with Frank's recommendation ; see below : Fantastic ! I have an extra set of those , as I built one as a stock SS-396 model . Excellent suggestion !
  14. Precisely . The two , widely-spaced lights leave too-big of an "embellished void" ; and , that makes the compact truck's fascia look too-wide . The quad setup looks like the ideal arrangement .
  15. Thank you for the idea , Frank ! Those Drag 500s look quite nice --- originally Jo-Han tooling ? I should have clarified : the Dart Sport I'm building will represent a street-driven car . That's why I was originally inquiring about the D.O.T. slicks that're provided in the kit ; I want a wider & taller tyre , but with tread .
  16. Thanks much , Robert ! I may just end up using the Holly - M/T slicks on another c.1975 Dart .
  17. One of the BIGGEST mistakes by G.M. in the 80's --- in the era of an unquenchable thirst for wrong-wheel-drive platforms --- was the dropping of the G-bodies ! Certainly , a gutless pile-of-Bandini 2.8 litre V6 driving the wrong end of the car was MUCH better then the rear-drive , full-frame , V8-powered G-bods . Admittedly , not a fan of 80's customs ( I was in my teens when those hideous custom "touches" were popular ) , and resultantly , not a fan of the FE3 per se , but I will add this 2-in-1 kit to my collection .
  18. My vote is for the quad lamp setup ... so far .
  19. "1C---" certainly does equate to late '81 / early '82 issue in-so-far-as California licence plates . Certainly does beg the question , as you've proposed ...
  20. Thanks much , Steve and Casey . I'll likely just end up using a pair of now-ancient MPC tyres from the parts box or the MPC 1971 Road Runner (the tyres from the Custom / Drag version) . That '71 Challenger is wicked ! That's real dedication to row that Lenco on the street ! Oddly , its E.T. doesn't "jibe" with its trap speed (unless he backed-off before he ran out of pavement !)
  21. I'm nearing-completion of the MPC 1975-1976 Dart Sport (photos will be posted when it's finished) , and am , in es. , down to tyres / wheels . My question : Are the Mickey Thompson D.O.T. slicks "correct" for a mid-1970s car ? They seem to be of a new(er) design , quite like Drag Radials ; they're nothing like I've ever seen on any period-correct car ( e.g. , 1970s Pro Stock , Modified Production , Stock , or Super Stock ). Obviously , I'm going for a 'what-one-would-see-on-a-car-circa-1976 . Your opinions , please .
  22. NICE !!! That's a beautiful C-bod ! Even more impressive that it's restored kit ! Any more C-bods in your collection ?
  23. I wonder if the B and G bodies' engines were different colours vs. the A body's colour ( i.e. , high performance model vs. standard performance) ?
  24. Dynamite ! Another one on my 'Must Have' list ! That wild green-tinted glass will work for a period-custom , too . Perhaps a Lowrider even
  25. I , too , am thinking : Plant variations . Local suppliers would supply different primers ; the aforementioned Chrysler Los Angeles (City of Commerce) Assembly Plant employing black vs. the typical grey . Makes me wonder if the General Motors Los Angeles (South Gate) Plant also used different coloured primers ? Granted , that was a B-Body facility (think : full-sized cars) , so that ostensibly wouldn't affect the A-bodies . Maybe the Fremont plant used red oxide ?
