For the longest time , the AMT Chevy Van from the 70's (and later , the A*TEAM van) were my favourites . I used to buy those 80's A*TEAM vans for dirt-cheap back in the mid-late 80's *just* for the tyres and plain steel wheels ! I put them on every dirt-cheap Joker Goon Squad / "Gotham" Police kit that I built ( to rid that kit of its ridiculous , deep , non-stock-in-every-way "Wide Country" wheels !! ) . Now , we have Fireball , Scenes Unlimited , et al. , for the absolute best steelies !

Outstanding Olds , Mike ! WOW !! Those '68 Oldsmobiles are some of the most beautiful cars ever --- yours exemplifies that point !

Welcome to the forum , Sam ! Here's an invaluable source for all things Chrysler ( U.S. models ) : http://www.hamtramck-historical.com/library.shtml You'll find not only paint chips , but other options , etc. , for the 1971 Charger .

What's the One Part You Hoard?
1972coronet replied to Casey's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I , too , never throw out ( erm , "discard" , according to the instructions) any leftover parts ... ... including the sprue / trees ! Particular part ? Hmm ... tie between brake master cylinders (and power boosters) and radiators . -
That's a fantastic idea , David . This is the first time I've had problems with a freakin' coil ... ever ! While I was building the engine I temporarily thought , Maybe I should countersink the coil's mounting pad ? But , the mounting pad was so smooth and unfettered that I figured that traditional plastic adhesives would suffice ; the cold weld would hold it in-place . Nope ! I'll have to try your technique the next time I build a Mark IV (or any engine with questionable mounting) .

UPDATE 12.03.2018 I hope to have the dashboard finished later today --- I had to buy some requisite white glue in order to install the Best Model Parts instrument / gauge 'decals' . The 396 / M22 combo is finished (or at least finished to my satisfaction !) . The ignition coil kept coming-off , so I said "Screw it ! It stays off then !" . There's no positive mounting point for the thing ; and , no matter what adhesives I'd employed , the stupid thing kept popping-off ! Photos to follow *hopefully* this evening .

I really like the generic 5"-7" headlamp lenses idea ! Chrome headlamps ruin an otherwise "convincing" kit ! IMO , all kit glass should be cast clear ! I despise having to paint back-up lamps white ( pearl or otherwise ! ) , as it never looks right . Well , at least tail lamps are less offensive than chromed headlamps . Another idea I've had for Parts Packs is : Brake Master Cylinders , both 1966 & earlier and 1967 & up styles .

Are Some Models Just Cursed?
1972coronet replied to Snake45's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The most-recent "tooth-and-nail" build I've given up on was the c.2013 reissue of the old MPC 1975-1976 Dart Sport . Why ? Well , after I'd acquiesced to the curbside direction I had to take (no amount of fiddling could make that engine compartment look good !) , and after a third interior colour change , I was stealing home base when it hit me : that frickin' front wheelbase is markedly different from side-to-side ! After working on it one-and-off for the last 4 years , I put it back into its box , and surrendered it to "the closet of shame" . Oh , well ... maybe in a few years I'll be able to look at it again , and actually fix its maladies ... -
HAHAHAHAHAHA !! I haven't heard that saying in quite some time --- and your timing was perfect ! I laughed so hard that I choked on a clove of garlic ! Anyhow ... I went with a Bare Metal Foil treatment for the bright applique , and flat black for the "brow" ; a Molotov Cocktail Pen was employed for the various nobs / buttons on the "brow" . Tonight , I'm going to finish detailing the dash . Photos of the 396 , and of the dash , to follow tomorrow . Thanks for all of the info and banter , everyone

Been making progress with the c.1990 issue of the wonderful 1967 Chevelle SS 396 (Revell) . 99% finished with the engine ( complete with "aluminium" heads , and a first-for-me "weathered" finish on said engine ! ) , and pics will eventually be attached here . I've hit a bit of a impasse : I can not find good photos of how the dashboard looks ! I've seen seemingly-conflicting images : woodgrain , black , and / or "brushed aluminum" finish of the embellishment / gauge surround . Which is correct ? All ? One ? The vintage brochures are no help ---- images are either illustrations , or the interior shot is at such an angle that the dash is a bit obscured (perhaps an artifact of all of the brightwork ?) . Ostensibly , the base and 300 models' dashes are not obscured , owing to their unfettered , interior-colour finish . Anywho ... share some pics , please . "1:1" and , preferably , 1/25 scale , are welcomed .

Favorite Alternate Version by Original Artist

Original , gritty , 1966 acetate pressing of Run , Run , Run ( Scepter Studio , 04/1966 ) . All of the gnarly pops and cracks ; the delicious mono mix ; that killer guitar solo and all of that fabulous feedback ! -
... any kit with modern tooling shouldn't fight you like a Marlin on methedrine . Old stuff ? Sure . Stuff from c.2000 and newer ? No .

Plymouth , Dodge , Chrysler , and De Soto models of 1957-1959 were fraught with Q.C. issues ( I believe that the Imperial -- a separate line , D-Body platform , built in a different plant -- was spared from these issues ) , including-but-not-limited-to premature body rot ... ...even in arid climates ! Three years is being generous

AMT M&H Racemaster Dragster Slicks & Parts Pack Tires
1972coronet replied to Gregg's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
... and yet , Revell-Monogram still makes kits with tyres with no sidewall marques (excepting the M&Ts in the Hemi Dart , and the Firestone Drag 500s in the S&M Pro Stock Barracuda ) . *Had to open that can of worms ! -
Keep on keepin' on , Shawn ! I started taking my skills a little more seriously when I was your age ( back in 1982 ! ) --- it's all about having fun and experimenting , and it looks like you're on track with that . P.S. : Jantrix is probably alluding to that salt and its long term effects on plastic .

I seem to recall that Tim Boyd stated -- in some 1988 issue of SAE -- that (to paraphrase) "The V6 from the AMT Opel was used [ for this (c.1932) Ford (pickup) that I built _______ years ago ] ..." The image on the box looks like a 231 ( ad / sub seq. ) engine .

Doesn't the recent-ish reissued Opal have a Buick V6 ?

Super 'vette , man ! Love its colour ; Inca Gold is the perfect choice .

Incredible Bonne ! Another fantastic build / resto ! -
FAVOURITE : My 1973 Duster . Bought it for 70$ in February 1992 , and had it for 7 months before someone ran a red light and plowed-into the Duster's right-front . MOST FUN : 1969 Dart GTS . Originally a 340-powered model , its original owner converted it to big block motivation in 1985 : 440 with Kellogg stroker crank ( bringing displacement up to 496 cubes ) , Direct Connection spool mount K-member , Art Carr 727 , etc. , etc. I didn't technically own it ; I went-in thirds on its purchase ( my share was 300$ out of a 1,000$ purchase ! ) . Sold my 'share' of it in spring 1994 . MOST-VERSATILE : 1970 Ranchero GT . Parts chaser and all around fun vehicle ! Two barrel 351 Cleveland , FMX ( trouble-free , and firm-shifting ) , etc. MOST-RELIABLE : 1990 Corolla LE sedan . My parents bought it new in Feb 1990 , drove it for nine years , then sold it to me when they bought a new Camry . That car got an honest 35 MPG , with 40 MPG on long-distance runs . I sold it for $1,500 when before its transmission soured .
