RED Turn Signals/Hazards : WHY ?!?

I was finally able to get a photo of the Ram and its tail lamps I was referring to earlier ; the red lamps with amber flashers ! -
RED Turn Signals/Hazards : WHY ?!?
1972coronet replied to 1972coronet's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I agree that those are truly obnoxious. WTH do those main / centre lamps do then ?? Just along for the ride ? Not exclusive to that KIA ; I've seen those asinine lights on the Chevy Bolt as well. What's even worse than driving behind one of those Logan's Run junks ? The Oldsmobiles with that STUPID bright RED "fog" light on the rear bumper ! -
RED Turn Signals/Hazards : WHY ?!?
1972coronet replied to 1972coronet's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
There's a psychological component to flashing red lights, too. That notwithstanding , my main complaint about red-illuminating directional / hazards stems from my almost failing the written exam for my driver's licence (back in the 1980s) ; to wit : one of the questions - multiple choice - pertained to school buses. To paraphrase the question : If a school bus is stopped by the side of the road and its lights are flashing red , what should you do ? 1.) Come to a complete stop and wait for the lights to stop flashing 2.) Keep driving while watching for pedestrians 3.) Come to a complete stop then drive slowly while watching for pedestrians To my mind , option 3 made the most sense , so I chose that one. I was of course wrong - correct answer was option 1. I challenged this, as I'd argued that turn signals flash red and no one has to come to a stop for someone to make a lane change. The DMV 'person' actually gave it to me ! She didn't nick me on that one ! So, as a result, I've long wondered as to why flashing red directional signals were okay for a lane change vs. the proper amber to fulfill that task ? -
RED Turn Signals/Hazards : WHY ?!?

I'll see if I can find an image of the lamps I'd mentioned - they're definitely red, except for the back-up (reverse) portion. EDIT : No such luck other than aftermarket stuff. I'll attempt to shoot a video next time I see one ( I drive for a living, so it shouldn't be long). -
RED Turn Signals/Hazards : WHY ?!?
1972coronet replied to 1972coronet's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have seen some rather trick looking tail lamps on the new(er) Ram (Dodge, et alia) trucks : the brake light illuminates red, but when the directional signals are activated, amber illuminates from the same provision. With the advent of LED's, this should be more common ; a no-brainer. Like some of our fellow members, I am also in the U.S. (in spite of my choice to employ "alternate" spellings of words... 'cause I'm that perfect) . With the tail lamps on U.S. vehicles - pickups, medium & heavy duty trucks (lorries) , passenger vehicles, etc. - the hazards certainly do override the brake lights. Oftentimes, a vehicle travelling below the speed limit will have its "hazards" on (mostly tractor-trailers ascending or descending a steep grade) . Certain tractor-trailers have ambers, and they're on a dedicated circuit (petrol haulers particularly). And, yes, beacons are in use on tow vehicles and highway worker - at least CalTrans , though I can't imagine that this is exclusive - trucks, light/medium/ heavy duty. -

RED Turn Signals/Hazards : WHY ?!?
1972coronet replied to 1972coronet's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
My thought exactly. I've seen BMW's with the same setup. Now, begs the question : why go through the extra trouble and expense of creating and casting an already existing lens just to put/ add in that (obnoxious) red turn signal ? ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Another point regarding the red hazards : in 97% of cases, the hazards override the other functions of the tail lamp, namely the brake lights ! Would be interested in knowing as to why that safety issue is somehow acceptable. -
I'd like to read others' opinions regarding something that's bothered me for more than 30 years : RED turn signals / hazards. Why are they permitted on any 1970's-present vehicle ? Not only is red an improper colour for turning and / or hazard lamps, it's also obnoxious... especially when : 1.) That feature's already on its own 'circuit' 2.) Lens originally had an amber section for this purpose, then was "reengineered" to red (see sample below of the 1998-2011 Crown Victoria tail lamp) Flashing red means "STOP" , whereas flashing AMBER means "CAUTION". Other countries have this down, and have for decades. Thoughts/opinions. BTW, I'm going to convert my daily driver 2004 CVPI to the correct 1998-2001 ambers.

It was that long ago already ?!? Wow ! Feels like only a couple of years ago !

IIRC, that kit was reissued within the last year or two.

Moebius 1968 Mercury M100 Announcement
1972coronet replied to Erik Solie's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
I haven't attempted to mate them to any Chrysler LA from any of the kit manufacturers. The only 'provision' from VCG is that they fit their LA-series engine , and I haven't even tried that yet (BTW, they also offer a separate 727 which has two oil pans : one stock, and one finned custom pan. But, again, I haven't yet attempted to mate it to any MPC, et alia, engine). -

One thing about the Moebius F-Series that I don't understand (okay, two things... but they're related) : - No separate trans oil pan (automatics) ; - No separate covers (Dana differentials). -
Painting parts while on sprue

That's how I typically handle the small items , especially starters, distributors, carburetors, alternators, oil filtres, and other easily lost parts. It's easy to touchup tiny spots of plastic colour after 99% of the work has been completed (removing parting lines, etc.) -

ARE THESE 2 KITS THE SAME?

Essentially they're the same. The 1980's issue Pro Street has some 1980's "updates" (those fugly rims for an instance). That MPC Barracuda hasn't seen the light of day in more than 40 years. -

I positively LOVE the products of VCG. I just purchased the performance version of their 300 six (a stock version is available as well) , and it's gorgeous. I've also purchased their 9" Ford rear (comes with TWO !) , two Slant Sixes (stock and HyperPack) , separate 727 trans, Chrysler small block headers, and some other items I can't recall at this moment. Don't hesitate - you won't be disappointed. -

It would appear that the warped bonnet hath been corrected for this issue... I need another F-100 / F-250 / F-350 like I need another hole in my brain, but I'm going to pull the trigger with this one ! BTW, was the 100 available with the FE engine in 1:1 ? I know that the 250 and 350 had the FE (in addition to other engines), but I don't believe that I've ever seen the "lowly" 1/2 ton with a factory-installed FE, 360 or 390. -
1970 Coronet RT conversion pieces

I've never had any issues with Hart's Parts, and I've purchased quite a few items from him over the years ; recently, the 1972-1976 Demon / Dart Sport / Duster hood scoop. They're perfect. I've been toying with the same conversion, albeit via bashing the new '68 Coronet with the now-old MPC-come-AMT '70 Super Bee. Your friend owns that WS27R0G ?? One-of-three total , IIRC - the other is an FK5 4-speed ; and one is M.I.A. Wasn't that FJ5 auto originally shod with the 14" Road Wheels (colloquially, "Magnum 500") ? -

Google's "AI Overview" is really, really stupid.

I have watched videos with poorly translated English (e.g., the soundtrack was originally in another language). I'm fairly certain that that's the result of A.I. Here's a verbatim example of the poor translation (imagine the voice of a male, Working Class Brighton) : "The are-Kansas sheriff hyphen ess officers pursued the suspect to dub-ewe third street..." These soundtracks are more common than not. And they're obnoxious. -
I've been digging on Vice Grip Garage for a couple of years or so. Family-oriented programme (literally - his wife and his sons share in the business... and they're feline lovers, too). I usually watch HPI Guy ; but man alive ! That same music each and ever time drive me bonkers. I'd rather have no music -- just some ASMR type stuff would be better. For this reason, I'm keen on A4 Garage , Mr. Lin's , and a couple other whose nom des artes I've forgotten. Car Wizard is lots of fun.
