  1. What noticable-in-scale differences are there between the 1968-1969-1970 Nova's ? I've been wanting to build a COPO 1968 Gibb/Harrell 9638 (e.g. , the 50 L78 / TH400 cars built for SS/DA , E/SA classes in July '68 ) based on the Revell '69 Nova ; what cosmetic differences are there between '69 & '68 ? Easy conversion ? I also want to build a 1970 L34 Nova SS. Other than the engine call outs above the front side markers, what else changed for 1970? Thanks.
  2. In both instances , the transmission cases were bare . The oil pans were also bare ; they were stamped steel . Now the "Park" drum (which dates back to the A-466 Powerflite and the A-488 Torqueflite ) was , IIRC , semigloss black .
  3. You know what I *don't* like about it ? It's on your shelf instead of mine !! One of the finest X bodies I've seen in some time ! That lethal 572 looks awesome ! Excellent work , my friend
  4. Should be worth noting here ( but feel free to remove the following if it causes an off course direction ) that the 1960 Starliner kit --- in its recent issue --- includes TWO complete engines , which themselves have two or three induction options (!!!) . Splendid representations of the 352-FE (and , perhaps , the 360 / 390 / ad seq. series...)
  5. Great work , Mike ! Not to be "that guy" , but this is really directed at anyone building any 1961 & earlier Chrysler with an automatic : the Torqueflite is cast iron ( the 1960 A-904-G was Chrysler's first aluminium case transmission ; the A-727-A ( small V8 ) and its counterpart A-727-B ( big V8 & Hemi ) went to aluminum two years later ). Minor thing that only Chrysler aficionados would spot
  6. RE: The 1962 Buick 225 Electra : I think that some confusion about the vintage of the kit is confusion that is bourne out of the c.1998 box art which consisted of a photo of the actual car , not a photo of the built up kit (!!). I bought the c.2008 "Retro" reissue version , fully cognizant of its 50 year old contents. Some "Newbies" undoubtedly were , in es , duped. The kit that surprised me was the (gorgeous) 1960 Starliner ! I honestly believed it to be a reissue of a Trophy Series kit with premium contents ! It wasn't until I did some research and found it to be a c.1998 vintage kit ! I absolutely LOVE the new / retro box art from Round2 . Thanks for the list , Rob ( et al.)
  7. I've been attempting to contact a friend and former coworker for the past two weeks, to no avail. So, I took another route ; I typed "1970 SS 396 Nova Shadow Grey" , and the following hit was found :http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php/topics/519133/1970_SS_396_L34_Nqova My heart sank into my gut ; that was his car !!! For. Sale. I thought the worst scenario right off ; then I called the number in the o.p. and spoke to the now former owner . Very nice guy ;he allied my fears , stating that the guy he bought the Nova from --- my friend --- was in high spirits . I can only keep trying to reach my friend. He's in his late 60s ; a tad antisocial ; and he despises phones ( ha ha ha ). Anyhow, just wanted to vent. I'd hate to realise that he'd sold his cars due to mitigating circumstances not privvy to outsiders...
  8. I,too,am hoping for a NEW tool '56 F100 . If the kit is going to be that ancient ,50 years old kit, then I will PASS.
  9. Firstly, please send a resounding Thank You from me your lobbiest friend !! C.A.R.B. is an outdated branch of government that needs to just...disappear. In regards to the 1932 Ford deal ; that honour goes to the late Boyd Coddington and the "George Washington's Axe" philosophy ...
  10. HA HA HA HA !!! Well at least it's not wearing Centerlines ...
  11. My all time favourite kit in so far as building options (not to mention the subject matter) is the AMT 1953 F100 (thank you , Round2, for reissuing this gem!). I would like to see more 2-in-1 60s/70s dealership "tuner" subjects (Motion, Dana,Mr Norms,Tasca,Randall,, et al. ) which could also be built stock. Furthermore, I wish that Revell,et al. , would offer two transmissions, two differentials, A/C and non A/C arrangements, etc..
  12. ...replete with the rarely seen Centerline wheels. !
  13. I'm astonished that every 1971 Hemi'Cuda convertible --11 total built-- are all accounted for!! Not sure about the 108 hardtops that were built... There's some guy across the freeway from where I work whom has a couple of early Vega's , both in 70s livery, one rumoured to be powered by a Buick 215 (a relatively common conversion at the time, harkening back to the pre-Jerry Brown / CARB reign of terror ...)
  14. Sonny , the Super bird that you are building is coming along nicely ! Keep the great work up. ! A little advice ; the interior headliner is black in every Superbird , and the same applies to the vinyl roof cover : black. Good call regarding the engine's nomenclature : 440 Six Barrel is 100% correct ! EW1 is a nice colour for the Superbird.
  15. Thanks all for your replies. After digging around I found some pics of a few MOTION Nova's with the Stinger, one of which was in Martyn Schorr’s "Tales of a Muscle Car Builder..." book. I'll have to check Drag City out...
  16. Bravo, TIM !! This kit looks phenomenal in every aspect ! Kudos to DAVE, et al., for mastering such a much needed subject !! In reference to the 727s oil pan : it certainly does look like a Direct Connection (et al.) part. The 1965 Torqueflite was a one year only animal ; first year for column shift, last year year for cable cable actuation. , last last year for 2 oil pumps. Thanks for your review review !
  17. POW!! That is NICE!!! In-scale or not, that colour is righteous !!
  18. @MIKE: I have never seen a Motion-prepped Nova;I can only guess that Joel employed an L88 hood. @ROB: That's exactly the hood I'm referencing! Such a gorgeous piece. Dana's alignment with Don Yenko, Bill Thomas, et al., is enshrouded in mystery; little info available about Dana of South Gate... @FRED : I'm assuming that you have a resin hood ?
  19. So,even their "Yenko" replica has the incorrect SS hood... Arrrg!!http://www.hotrod.com/cars/featured/1312-1969-chevrolet-nova-ss396-l78-dana-light-heavyweight/ This is the Dana I'm going to replicate (sans the vinyl top.)
  20. I am trying to find a Stinger hood for the Revell "COPO" Nova , as I am replicating a Dana Chevrolet version of an L78/L89 396 SS model. Does the Yenko version of this kit include the Stinger ? If so, then I will inquire about purchasing a hood directly from Revell . If Revell does not offer the hood , then who does ? Thanks for your replies and links.
  21. The only COPO Novas that I am aware of were : _ 1968 L78 SS 396 with a specially-calibrated TH400 with a high stall converter. These were COPO as only the 4-speed was available with the 396. Harrell wanted to create a Nova to compete in the auto trans classes, SS/DA; so via Vince Piggens,et al., ordered 50 396 Chevy II with the 375 HP 396 w/ the TH400. _1970 Yenko Deuce, 360hp 350 . Yenko built 50 or so ,with HURST BUILDING 25 of them. TH400 and M21 were available, with the TH models receiving the Hurst Auto/stick as standard. I am looking for a Stinger hood for my Revell 1969 Nova... With a L78/L89 396. Want to build a Dana version!
  22. That particular Nova is alleged to be the only L89-equipped Nova for 1970 . Most aluminum head 396's were installed in Chevelles and the Camaro . 1970 was the last year for the 396 Nova . A former coworker of mine had one ; Shadow Grey with base SS black interior , 4-speed , 3.42 gear with Posi . He bought it in the 80's before the first Muscle Car boom . He parked the original engine and transmission in his garage , and replaced 'em with a 502 , backed by a Doug Nash 5 speed (5th is Direct) ; he left the stock 3.42 gear , but the differential was rebuilt / "C"-clips eliminated .
  23. 1970 L89-equipped L78 375 hp / 396 in a 1970 Nova . Note its natural-finish aluminum heads : http://www.supercars.net/Pics?viewPic=y&source=carGal&carID=4785&pgID=1&pID=775126
  24. We still need a 1967 Dart GT / GT+S (the latter being a GT with a 383) . Gary Dyer was the guy whom converted the first Dart to big block power in late 1966 ; Dyer was Norm's lead wrench . It's too bad that Dodge didn't follow Dyer's formulæ for the factory deal : 330 hp 383 / Torqueflite / 3.55 gear 8 3/4 rear , all out of a 1966 Coronet donor . The only non-stock part was the exhaust ; underchassis headers were constructed at Iggy's Muffler . As far as a 1968 Dart is concerned ; how about a GT / GTS with two engine and two transmission options : 340 and 383 / 440 ("generic" big block) , with 4 speed and Torqueflite as separate assemblies . Of course , period-correct "day 2" parts as options would have to be included ; fenderwell-exit headers (for both engines) , custom wheels ( Motor Wheels Spyders get my vote !) , and other livery from the era .
  25. Yuri - Let me be the 38th person to say "WOW!!" . Easily thee finest XS29J7's I've ever seen ! And your photography is the best ! Keep them coming , my friend !
