MPC/Round 2 - Pony Express is back from the grave!
niteowl7710 replied to Faust's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
It doesn't exist in stock form in a technical sense anymore. They made the entire front clip a flip nose before it was mounted to that Monster Truck chassis. There's no telling where, if it wasn't scrapped, the stock frame, engine, and interior would be at this point, aside from all the retooling to the body to make it back to a conventional hood. -
Round 2 January 2017 Product Spotlight

Revell of Germany has reboxed Revell kits for years. Why is the Torino suddenly a shocker? As was discussed elsewhere it was a popular T.V. show at the time. Why Hobbico insists on reimporting them back here is the "Huh?" question. They rebox U.S. kits for the same reason Revell here reboxes Germany's kits. The cost less to the domestic consumer. Our kits are very pricey over there, whereas a Revell AG reboxed S&H Torino will sell in line with the rest of their kits. -
Question about AMT Color Me Gone 64 Dodge

Interesting to see they just went with the gold trim surrounds. In the Lindberg kits, all of the blue was decals on the hood and sides. -

The possible redeeming quality of the Barris Ice Cream truck is that it has the original decals back. None of the many "middle" reissues had those. So for the TRUE nostalgia buff or Barris collector I can see where they'll sell a few. -
I tested a little bit on the few things I chromed and it seems that excessively touching it - and I mean touching it with a full fingerprint on purpose will dull the sheen, but it seems to "polish" back up just rubbing the oil back off with a cloth. Also you really have to scrape it with a fingernail to get it completely come back off again, so I don't have many concerns of the durability of the ink or accidentally damaging it with normal care. Doing assembly with cloth or nitrate gloves should eliminate dulling.

It seems like the Liquid Chrome markers are still pretty new. I'm not sure I know of a brick and mortar store that has them in stock, although some seem to have them orderable online.

I got mine from HobbyEasy. They're the Warsteiner kit with a decal sheet of the advertised Guia Race of Macau winning car. I don't know of plans to sell the decals individually - which made me debate buying a bunch of each and selling off the decal sheets (since they're packaged in AutoColour hanger sleeves) and use the kits as bases for the plethora of aftermarket liveries that are about to march out.

Also about 20 minutes after I posted the pictures my package from Art Primo came with all 3 sizes of the Molotow Liquid Chrome Ink Markers. *Poof* All other methods of replicating chrome are now irrelevant.

It goes onto any of the Hasegawa Nissan Sunny Pickups. It is an entire front clip replacement surgery.

Some stuff that came in before the end of 2016. I got this Tamiya 956 for under $20 shipped as it had no box, and the decals were shot. Perfectly fine I wanted a different livery, and prior to my opening it to inspect it all the bags were sealed In the case of the multiples in each of the next two pictures they are base kits for aftermarket decals I already have purchased. The two blank white boxes with tiny endcap stickers are AutoColour private label Beemax M3s (Beemax owns AutoColour) that are only available in China.

Well Belkits has made the entire licensing process pretty transparent with the last couple runs of their kits, and at least with the VW Polos, they have to have everything approved in stages, and then build a presentation piece to present to VW for final approval to do the kit. You have to wonder if the licensing is on the movie end, or Aston-Martins end. Beyond that if the matter is money, and we all know how cheap Revell is since they managed to lose the Ferrari licensing and now are owned by the bean counters in Illinois. Cause frankly if the issue is with the movie end, who cares, just give me a new DB5, it's an iconic British sports car, it'll sell just fine on it's own with the help of a 53 year old movie (as much as I love the Sean Connery Bond movies).

Ollie's strike again
niteowl7710 replied to GLMFAA1's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Browsing through this thread and all I can do is shake my head and chuckle at the people gashing open on the '62 Vettes looking for the Metallic Orange ones. Even those "Katch the Kat" kits say what color they're molded in right on the bottom, like a normal kit. The people doing that have to be collectors/people who have big $$$ in their eyes for the resale market and oughta know how that box bottom printing works by now. -

Right the infamous AMT "ProShop" models. Ya know you still come across people every now and then still trying to enter one of those in a model contest. -
Round 2 January 2017 Product Spotlight

Missing from that video, but on the January release sheet are - '49 Ford with it's original trophy base restored. Prepaint '16 Camaro which sounds like they took the Aoshima approach and painted the entire kit for you (rather than just the body like Revell's) You just provide glue and an afternoon, be forewarned everything will still be on sprues and have all of it's attendant seams and mold lines. '60 Starliner which will be the full 2n1 with both stock and custom parts (which gets you two entire engines) for the first time since the original kit was packaged that way. -
Question about AMT Color Me Gone 64 Dodge
niteowl7710 replied to chriscarroll.ogre's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
The other benefit of this kit would be the fresh Cartograf decals. The ORIGINAL kits are now pushing close to 25 years old, and I believe the last J. Lloyd run of these is getting pretty close to ten. Also enough with the $40 price tag at Hobby Lobby stuff. No one here (at least I hope not) is gonna pay that price, you're all going to use the 40% thing which makes it $24.95 which is less than what Round2 will sell it to you from Auto World Store, and they'd still have to charge you to ship it. -
Good gosh I hope not. It's not the absolute worst kit in the world by any means, but that's gonna wind up being a huge box of disappointment for a lot of people if it is...way way basic curbside, and looked old and somewhat substandard - particularly in the chassis and interior areas when it was released 20 years ago.

AMT White Freightliner 2n1 SC/DD Cabover 75th
niteowl7710 replied to Mr mopar's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
It was a misprint, or a coding error that showed it in stock. It's not on the 60 day sheet (eg Jan or Feb release) at Round2, and Tower is saying "Mid April". -

They have the Dual Drive kit, and the Single Drive kit, but neither is the specific kit that's being discussed here. There's a listing for it, but it's a "1st Half of 2017" release.
