well the build thread was started late so I'm playing a little catch up with posting. Here is a quick shot of engine with finished rear suspension test fit into painted-but-not-detailed tub then a couple of pictures of the process of opening the windows. The kit has the slide open plexi windows while most cars went with crank down. I wanted the crank down look so interior detail wouldn't be lost.

On the spoiler location, can you simply glue the spoiler to the trunk where you want it then use the "bolts just for show? I have to admire your willingness to keep working on the frame to make the bolts fit. I would have likely glued it all together and then used the bolts just as show points instead of getting them through. If you'd like to "locate" the hole on the trunk could you put a piece of tape on the lid, hold the spoiler where you want it, mark the holes, remove the spoiler then drill through? Interior looks NICE.

Building up Tamiya's Ferrari F40 for the Cannonball Run CB It's a great kit and one of my favorite cars but clearly an older kit. There are some details lacking in the engine bay that need to be added / fixed because of how visible everything becomes when the cover is opened. I swapped out better turbos and build the shocks from wire, added the turbo cooling lines and will be building the exhaust from scratch.

If you've never tried auto body glazing putty to fill in gaps like this I recommend it. You can get it at most auto parts stores and probably walmart. It's comes in a tube like a big tooth paste tube. I find it VERY easy to work with, control and finish. MUCH easier than filling with superglue because it doesn't shrink as it sets. For a gap like you have in the splitter it would be perfect. Hope this helps.

Jantrix can you add me to the list of contestants? As for lost time at the bench you, of all people, can not miss the start of the anniversary edition! Go for a quick build if you have to but you better be there! If I'm going to make it you HAVE to make it LOL! Dave

All right... I've actually gotten a lot of work done on the Ferrari. It is a Tamiya kit so no fit problems but the kit exhaust and turbos are really lacking. I ordered up some aftermarket blowers from Hobby Design and the PE kit. Of course nothing is ever easy when you start cutting and moving so after getting the blowers on and realizing they had interference issues in about 5 places the fun really started. This is all set to go in. All cooling and oil lines for the blowers are in and plug wires added. The turbo intercoolers will go on after the engine is in the chassis and I can test fit the engine cover and body.

No cup holders in the 911 right? They both look excellent!!

Great build of an amazing car! I'm very happy to see the kit builds out well. Hopefully we continue to see more kits of these modern cars!!

Some AMAZING looking builds here. I've gotten the Ferrari started. First photos coming soon!

Alright I'm in. I really can't think of a car I'd like to drive cross country as fast as possible more than this. I think I'm going to get a PE set and have a project to finish then it will be time to get started

Alright. Here is my entry from 2008. One of the originals. An Audi R8 powered by the V12 TDI from he LMP1 Audi R10. Thought it would be fun ton see another first year car. After moving twice and changing jobs in the last 3 years I have built a grand total of 1 car. This seems like a perfect reason to get back to the bench. Stay tuned. Dave

Jantrix thanks for the warm welcome. Two moves in 10 months required packing everything and left me with no build space for 9 months. Just started unpacking everything last week. Zenrat. I had an 80 silver over black two tone. I could dig out some factory pictures but sadly mine met nirvana long before I got good pictures of it. My brother had a black 81 with the H/O V6. Just like the Revell kit but hatchback instead of notch back. I've been working on converting the kit to hatch back for a while... just never got it finished.

Zenrat the 1980 citation was my first car! Well after moving twice in 10 months and having to pack my entire modeling world into cardboard this may be just what I need.

wow that finish has to be 90% decals... looks great!

Looking good! How was the C1 kit? I've been looking at their stuff but haven't taken the plunge yet.
-
looks great. Love the wheel lettering. What kit did you use? Where is the livery from?
-
jaw dropping... absolutely amazing
-
Great job. I've done the hard top 3 times but never the drop top. Going to have to get one of these
-
YES YES YES!!! LOVE IT

hey that looks GREAT. Where did the wheels come from?
-
how was the kit? How did it compare to the Audi and MB DTM kits?

The NY Yankees payroll is over $225M this year. They are going to burn through a BILLION in 4 years too. Keep in mind that is JUST PAYROLL for the Yanks. I'm guessing running an F1 team and running the Yanks is about the same kinda cash.

Is Airbrushing Really This Much of a Pain?
vwdave92 replied to bigbluesd's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Acrylic paint. Auto Air, Tamiya, Wicked Colors, Aztek. What ever. The clean us is WAY easier.
