  1. Keyser - sincerely… thank you. I'm just going to send out for a catalog at this point
  2. Gorgeous!!! Think I'm going to have to build one of these...
  3. Casey - thanks. I'll email them for info on the mail away catalog Keyser - Really? thanks for helping
  4. Heather… looks great. When building street rods you can toss out most of the color codes. You best friend is a "google image" search. Dave
  5. thanks all! Pappy… I did sand off the ™ logo when I did the body filler and put in the new floor pieces. It's hard to see with the suspension in the way. I'll have some completed under carriage pictures tonight hopefully
  6. Hey Heather… looks like we are partners in the 49 merc club at the moment. Although mine is modified pretty heavily I can tell you the kit is VERY well done. Relax and enjoy the build. If you're patient and take your time it will go smooth. I found everything to fit very well and got together smooth. These things look AWESOME on the shelf when finished up. Dave
  7. Good to hear about good casters. What is the best way to shop for Replica's stuff? I can't find a good catalogue of the available parts.
  8. Well with my recent unemployment I have found myself with A LOT of time on my hands. So after a Testors M3 slump buster I grabbed the Revell 49 Merc originally intended for a group build like three years ago. Real life happened then too. As much as I hate the "wheels and body" mock ups this does show the Pegasus wheels I picked out. At this point I had already done most of the suspension and floor work as well. Above mentioned suspension and floor work. Rear end narrowed, fuel tank relo, wells tubbed etc. The floor with everything cut out. The spillage of Ross Gibson engine parts that will make up the 454 big block going in… I REALLY wanted the hilborne fuel injection look. I have gotten a way down the road from here but need to shoot some more pictures. More to come
  9. amazing work! the engine... so detailed... yet so clean! Did you use a detail kit?
  10. Obviously I'm a huge VW fan and that looks nice!!

    GT-R

Hey that's a cool build! Did I miss what kit it is? I know several companies have made that kit. I even found a place resin casting full detailed engines. I just shot an E30 M3 in that color. Right out of the can over tamiya white primer and Testors wet look clear. I think the trick is to use several coats of clear so you can buff them down. It's tricky to buff pearls and metallics without clear because you can mute the additives in the paint. BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH that is a GREAT car!!
  12. Flocking tip to keep mess down... put the cassis in a smallish plastic box. Think zip lock throw away type thing. I use the plastic boxes baby wipes come in (three kids in 8 year so I have a few). I use glue from Woodland Scenic. Model RR guys use it to cover big areas in grass and similar stuff. Tape off areas to not flock and cover the rest in a good helping of the glue. Put the chassis in the box. Dump the flocking into a hand held sifter / strainer and shake it out into the box. Wait for the glue to dry over night. Then you can just tap the left overs into the corner of the box and dump it back into a small bag or similar container. I found a seasoning rack at a garage sale with all the jars - all empty... jackpot. two more tips - 1. paint the area to be flocked in color close to the flocking color 2. you can try pressing the flocking into the glue - I've had mixed results so ... phew! great looking build
  13. Thanks for the compliments Dave
  14. WOW> Steve how did you get it so low? Looks like you'd have to cut the hell out of the chassis pan, tubs and a lot of rework.
  15. Nice! Just a note on decal paper for plates. I use the acme plate maker web site. Load the pictures and size them up as I want them print them on high gloss photo paper. I find it easier to work with and paper gives everything just the right depth to look real. Glue the paper straight into place.
  16. Hey all. I've been away for awhile. Partially not building and partially because this kit had me stumped 100 way to Sunday. This is the old Testors release of the Miura Jota that originally had an electric motor. As such there is room for a switch battery, gear drive and small electric motor (all no longer supplied). Additionally the kit has ONLY the basic engine top, valve covers, throttle bodies and injector stacks. The problem is the engine is REALLY visible when the back is open. So most of what you see is scratched and worked down from ref pictures. I'm pretty happy with the finished product even if the fit of the doors when closed is nightmarish. So here goes. Hope the pictures aren't too big...
  17. that looks amazing! the little touches on the engine are NICE. Love the clamps on the air box. Did you have to make those or are they molded in and you were able to pick them out?
  18. that is SUPER cool. I have NEVER thought of that but may have to make up some family decals or something
  19. Hey Rob! I think we have both been playing musical houses for a couple of years now. When we moved I almost fainted backing up the bench. Couple of things I remember. 1. Kits both finished and unfinished take up A LOT of space. 2. If you put enough magazines and tiny paint jars in a box you can't lift it. 3. Moving the spray booth gets you and odd look from everyone helping. Good luck my man! Dave
  20. A friend of mine owns one of these little rockets. The acceleration will blur your vision. It's 0-60 time is sub 5 secs and I don't have a problem at all believing that. Very cool rig.

    Drop test!

I was given the same test a couple of weeks back when my Austin Martin DBS took a header off the TV onto the hardwood floor. 2 of three kids were standing there watching. See they had a lost a toy under the TV and daddy was getting it for them when the accident happened. Luckily there was now external damage. Knocked all the light buckets loose inside and two wheels off but an easy rebuild. Congrats on not scaring the kids even more!
