My first "bought" car was a '60 Impala. $400 bucks....a note co-signed by my Dad. Back in '74. White, complete "rolled an' tucked" black interior. 283 4 Barrel. Looked good when washed...BUT rust lookin' brown would come from tha' side trim. Enough room in tha' back seat ta' have a party.(had a few) Drum brakes that would stop it at 60 MPH....in 300 feet. I'll be watching....

"The Good Ol' Days"
Southern Fried replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
My "Good Ol' Days" was in the mid '70's. You could buy '68/69 Chevelles, Nova's, Camaro's, Road Runners', Impala SS, Chargers, 'Cuda's , ect...In prime condition...NOT pristine, but workable...$500- to $1200 bucks. I bought a rock solid '68 Chevelle, SS, 396, for $500 bucks....because the engine had a "knock"? Perfect paint. Kidney Bean rims. Not ONE flaw on the interior. Dropped in a "Trade School" 427 that Chevy "contributed" to the local Trade School. ...For tear down/demonstration purposes. They could not sell it, unless it was scrap. To scrap it, they had to make it "un-usable". Talked the teacher into knocking a hole into the rear water jacket. Bought it, welded up the hole, had a brand new 427. '72 "Heavy Chevy" body. $400. '67 Impala SS, 327...console, buckets, Powerglide...$500. Installed an 8 Track. '56 Bel Air Hardtop. 30 over 327. Camaro buckets. M22 Rock Crusher. 50's on American 5 spoke aluminum. 10 on the back with 50's. Had a crapy, worn out Hurst shifter. Sometimes locked up, and I would have to slide under it...and break it loose. Last one was a '38 Ford Coupe. Ex drag car. Some kind of Olds "Posi".rear end..350 Cop engine. Original front suspension. Edelbock high rise that you could change the top half to run 1 or 2 carbs. I ran 1 650 Holly. That was a "hoot" to drive. Yep...wish I had have known what to keep!. -

are there any group builds in here, any interest?
Southern Fried replied to turbo nova's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Define the term "Drags". As..."Sanctioned" drags...Street drags...ect. As...I drag raced ...a lot...Un-sanctioned. On "hidden" straight roads. In Alabama. '70's. Un safe cars... Built to cruise/ drag...if needed. "Grudge Matches". Some not "Pretty" cars that would "Fly"... BUT! We competed in a "straight line"... ???? -
It's good to see someone else "dwelling in the 70's" on a build. Started working on my Southern Fried '57 Ford "Garage Dog" a little, again. Started driving in '74. We had the "strip" where everybody cruised. A line of Fast Food joints auto parts store , etc.and a big Kmart parking lot on one end where you could gather without the Cops running you off!. just off the main highway.'Bout a quarter of a mile long. Cruise down, turn around, cruise back up. Crowded on weekends. Saw cars just like yours. Every kind of car. I had a '56 Bel Air. 350 4 speed with a worn out Hurst (that sometimes hung up) headers (which we could un-cap until Cops said cap it) 50's on 10 inch, 78's on 7's. American Torqs all around. Nice Turquois paint...until you got to the front cap (grey primmer...a little fender bender) no front bumper or splash guard. Boy, do I miss that car... You did a good job!

I likes it. Had a Friend in High School that drove one briefly (Another story all together) BIG Ol' car! -
As a side note, The first contact I had with this kit was in the mid '60's. The Sunday school class I was in got to bring Christmas gifts to exchange. Boys brought boys gifts. Girls the same. Mom took me to K Mart and I immediately snapped the Mustang up. They put numbers on the gifts, and you reached into a basket and pulled out a number. Man you should have seen me fishing for the Mustang #. Fingers crossed and all... Didn't get it though...BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH!

Thanks Ace. The tinted windows are included in the kit.
