  1. Striking. Unbelievably believable. I'd say you nailed it (heh). I'd love to do an old fishing boat like that.
  2. Mostly everything. I use different colored primers with a color value closest to whatever color I'm going to paint the part. I also keep on hand one cheap, thin, off-brand primer for when I want a very light but even priming on a part with delicate features like scripts.
  3. That's a real beauty. Such an attractive transformation.

Now that' something you don't see every day. Good work and some nice choices.
  5. Come on guys, don't you secretly (or boldly) wish you had a new old grocery getter like that?
  6. You know, it's still a good read. I got caught up in more than just the ads. 5 boys in our family growing up in the 50's 60's and 70's so we had many years of Boys Life floating around.
  7. Looks like a little bit of forced perspective in the photograph. Model.
  8. Baby steps, yes. But if you're returning to a hobby you're already familiar with, I think with just a few pointers from here you'll quickly ascend to a level that will delight you. After that you can discover and challenge the limits of your abilities. Whatever you do, don't throw out your old models. They'll mean more to you in the future than they may now.
  9. If the chrome strip was not there, nobody would miss it. Please be very careful with any clear coat because what you have here is pure artistry.
  10. I use the 5-minute epoxy when I want a strong bond with a little work time. Lately I've been using it to attach windshields and delicate areas of glass because it dries completely clear (more forgiving of slips or slops) and bonds better than white glue.
  11. My buddy with the '54 Chevy you see in my avatar painted his engine and it was soft for months. A shop told him that's because engine paints partially count on the heat of the engine to cure it. For that reason I've never used engine paint for modeling. Might also explain why yours levels so nicely, but over time does it get rough from shrinkage?
  12. Kudos. Wonderful job. Be sure you bring it to shows so everyone can enjoy it. This is one of those cars that are beautiful and ugly at the same time. If you crop it down to isolated segments they're beautiful. But as a whole, the sections fight with each other. Probably why I'm so endeared to it, along with other six Renwal head scratchers.
  13. Some things you can go cheap on, but taping and prepping for paint isn't one of them. 3M masking for broad areas, Tamiya for edging. It may be more expensive but detail taping doesn't use a lot of tape either so it'll last for a while.
  14. Amazing turnout, noticeably more than the past few years and the quality and subject matter was first rate. 512 models? Photos here. Didn't think I would make it but Saturday I caught a break and headed out at 7am Sunday. Dave, thanks for the invite for the java but I didn't have much fore notice. I had a tight day. After the show I had to fit in a visit with an old friend and still shoot out to Buffalo to pick up some show dogs. Got back just before midnight.
  15. Voted real then changed it. I think bottom faring material looks thick.
  16. Yup. The Bee looks great and you've made good progress. Jonathan makes some good points. Take a closer look at your obstacle and don't let it defeat you. None of these things are perfect anyway, once you push past it you'll be glad you did. I look forward to seeing the finished Super Bee.
  17. I've been to Manny Soto. Between Wisconsin and North Dekoto.
  18. Now that's class all the way. Dashboard is amazing. How did you get those numbers so good?
  19. It's actually across over in Moorhead, Hobby Hut in the Easten Mall (Hwy 10 between Moorhead and Dilworth). Mark's shop has shrunk a bit but he's got the major stuff, he's always a vendor at the local toy show, can special order anything and he hosts the IPMS model club in his store every month. The last owner/operator hobby store in the area.
  20. Maybe a little more unsympathetic than when you acknowledged the loss of Al's Hobby in your town, but it's just looking back on fond memories. Gagers used to be in Fargo too. The bad news is it closed long ago. The good news is that one of the co-owners went on to open his own hobby shop and it's still around, still giving personal, first-name-basis service and hobby support.
  21. I partially agree. I also think it depends on what kind of fundamental character you bring to the table. I know folks for whom a lottery would destroy them, but they're relatively content now. I also know second-hand a family that won $200-million. Their lifestyles are a little more fabulous but otherwise is unchanged. Still good family who still love each other and pretty much retain their old morals and value system.
  22. That's a beauty. Nice work on an enjoyable subject.
  23. Looks great Al. Took a while for the post '66 GPs to grow on me but they really did. I'd like to do a '68 the way it appears in "Goodfellas."
  24. That's why you should build it.
