  1. Yes, Chrysler shot themselves in the foot revising later PT models on the cheap and essentially killing one of the most successful cars of the 2000s. I own one and I enjoy its innovations and well thought out utility. The bummer is its renown lackluster MPGs. During the summer I get about 18 in town, and a fair 25 on the highway. Worse in the winter and worse than the '96 Mustang it replaced. Heck, our family's '66 Catalina wagon got 17. I think (automatic) 2nd and 3rd gears are a little high.
  2. Yeah, the PT Cruiser is pretty ugly... NOT!
  3. This entire thread has been an education. Thanks for the photos, responses and follow up.
  4. If they're actually pinhole bubbles and not BB size bubbles, a spread of super glue works fine and sands well. Bigger than that will require 2-part fill as mentioned above.
  5. It's a rare model that is enhanced with cotton but this has to be right up there. Nicely executed.
  6. The story appears to be from Spring of 2012. Not much info but the consistent info is that he jumped a curb and hit other objects including a tree.
  7. More pics from the salvage yard. Click here.
  8. They make a great pair Jonathan. I can't decide which I like more but I'm favoring the dark one. Excellent engine work, wish I could detail that well.
  9. That single piece chassis is amazing. Proof again that clean, well detailed box stock builds and kits with low parts count can be every bit as impressive as one with aftermarket parts added. Beginners take note. This is great Tulio.
  10. This is about as nice as I've seen. Your wheel choice is excellent and makes it stand out from the rest. I love it.
  11. Wow, that's excellent. Great link. They got every detail. Aside from the satirical writing of (one of my favorites) P.J. O'Rourke, someone knew every detail of model building.
  12. I've got a salvageable glue bomb of this that I've spent many sessions eyeballing for ideas on what to do with it. Nice to see one box stock. Looks neat. This should also be in the thread about let downs after opening the box. Very dramatic graphic on the cover, but a stubby head scratcher inside.
  13. I'm compelled to comment on this again... I think that's the most photogenic engine (front end?) I think I've ever seen. Engineered to perfection David.
  14. I dated a girl who saw the model bench in my apt. and recommended I not spread it around that I build model cars. She thought it was kind of embarrassing for me. I brought her to an IPMS "ModelCon" to enlighten her but at first she was convinced anything that ended in "con" was a nerd convention. She was blown away by some of the magazine caliber military dioramas and I almost had her completely changed until, in a heavy crowd, a very nerdy nerd parting his way through the crowd said in the wimpiest and most nasally voice you can imagine, "Excuse me kind sir." That moment validated all her prejudices and derailed all my progress.
  15. I'm rarely disappointed any more because I'm much more informed than I used to be about the age and expectations of most kits. One that comes to mind was the MPC '67 GTO. Dated stuff, like small engine, wire axles, reworked screw bottom, chrome headlights, ghostly trim. Still looks nice as a shelf model though.
  16. The AMT 49 Ford dog dish caps might not be too bad. You'd have to sand off the "Ford" script and paint them with Alclad II if you were particular.
  17. The U.S. at least has food standards oversight, whether by the FDA or other public safety groups. I'm pretty sure China is not as dedicated to such oversight. Just ask the pet industry where many animals have died from "safe" food products and chew toys that failed safety standards after they were green-lighted by their oversight agencies.
  18. Harry, what 14-year old says, "I'm just a kid?" Owen, for inspiration, check out member BKCustoms. I think he's 16 or 17 now, but his work as a 14-year old shows what you can accomplish once you get dialed in.
  19. Maybe just thank him for letting you build his models for him. Then maybe offer a trade of services where you will let him shovel your driveway, sidewalks and mow your lawn.
  20. Sounds like it's right up my alley, but all "productive" modeling seems to be on hold for me till further notice. I hope you get a good response for me to watch.
  21. Yup, very sad. He was just here at our art deco Fargo Theatre exactly 30 days ago. I didn't go, but I did see him at our blues fest a few years ago. He was rock solid, for sure.
  22. A bold choice to make the troublesome Revell kit appear stock. But it's very well done and the engine looks sooooo good.
  23. That's what you set on the show tables to blow people's minds. Super impressive. You can actually visibly see the time you have in it.
  24. I'm not sure a vast inventory is the objective. Looks to me like right now you have everything you need to make a quality build. A few more tools and a little more space and you'll be set for life. As with anything, if you gather too much then you don't own your stuff, your stuff owns you.
