  1. But that's how we all entered music appreciation... getting turned on by the repetition of whatever the pop radio was playing. The more we listen, the more we learn and the more selective we become until you can't help expand your horizon into otherwise unknown territory, like Dave Brubeck or jazz in general. The fact that your son even questions it means he's noticing and beginning to sort out his own thoughts about music choice.
  2. LOVE the color. But another cute car that contemporary designers put a smiley face on. It's a tired styling fad that I hope we grow out of VERY soon.
  3. If it's a vinyl wrap, then the panel templates already exist. Find out who did the original layout and see if there's a way they'd scale them down, save as a pdf then you can take the files and decal paper to your home printer or a copy shop to print. Since you're a member of the race team it may not be too difficult to ask this favor.
  4. I never set out to be a collector and don't consider myself one. Yet there are several I won't build. I'm not driven by raw consumerism. I maybe have a greater sense of future and maybe feel like I'm keeper of the kit until someone else wants to enjoy what I've been able to enjoy. On some things, just appreciating the plastic is enjoyment enough. But I always buy with the intension of building, it just occasionally evolves into something else.
  5. Chuck, this one really surprised me. Super neat. Of your recent builds this is my favorite.
  6. Pastel colors are soft colors, so bright yellow may not be what she's asking for. A butter yellow might please her. If you airbrush, Testors Light Yellow SKU# 1112TT could make a nice pastel yellow. Even more so if you softened it with a touch of white mixed.
  7. Seein' as how the items are accurately labeled and priced at current market value.
  8. In a lesser experience, I had a letter returned to me missing the stamp. Though I used their self stick stamp, it fell off after it had been cancelled by the PO. You could see the dated post mark and a blank spot where the stamp had been. Clearly it had the correct postage at the point of approval.
  9. YES! I saw it in there a few weeks after I got my copy. Figuring you'd be too modest to boast, I took the copy to my GF who had my camera so I could get a pic to post here but the battery was dead. Then I never followed through. Congratulations! That car has really come a long way and you did a fine job.
  10. People frequently wish to deny dogs their DNA when they see ones they connect with in some way. Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retrievers are bred to fetch ducks. Nurturing and training can't deny them their hard wired irrepressible desire to fetch anything that moves and to be in water. Likewise Pit Bulls and Bull Terriers were developed over decades to fight. You can have the friendliest one on the block until one day something sets it off. When that happens they snap and no longer hear commands to stop and don't always respond to force. It's not their fault or yours. If you're ready to watch for that and know how to contain it, then you may be a good fit for it. However they make frightening pets for families.
  11. Let's not forget the role safety has played. Part of the "parity" is because development of speed was surpassing development of safety and left unchecked it would have become a bigger blood sport than it already was. Nobody liked restrictor plates but something had to be done. Part of today's commercial success of NASCAR is reaching a safety level that made viewing accessible to an audience that was turned off by the risk; women and those concerned about the impression left on kids after deadly wrecks.
  12. Proof again that in the hands of a capable and motivated craftsman, any sow's ear can be made into a silk purse. Mmmm, silky.

    The V28

The canopy glass. Definitely brings the whole thing home for me.
  14. Stunning!
  15. The kids get sold on it. Just gotta sell more parents, to get them to these events. Nice work.
  16. You guys should start a reality show. Funnier than those motorcycle dudes. But back to the topic at hand, was that '55 listed only in the modeling section? I have to agree that there will probably be more to this story.
  17. Agreed. Built mine in the 90's. It was the white one. I don't recall any glaring fit issues, just flash, the engine seemed a little small, platform chassis and loss of detail in the scripts and mouldings. The overall body is proportional and as you can see by Bruce's pic, it looks quite nice on the shelf. Like many low parts count kits, If you don't get hung up on the finer points it's still worth having around.
  18. Can't tell for sure but if they're 1/25 it looks like they could be off the Dodge Ram 3500 promo.
  19. For the record... Now back to our regularly scheduled conversation about models.
  20. I was much too far away to attend but I hold Colpar Hobbies in high regard. They were generous in being a sponsor for one or two of our Plastic on the Prairie model contests. That must've been fifteen years ago. But because of their involvement in our show, which was half way across the country from them, I still speak well of their interest in forwarding the hobby and helping the people who love it. Thanks for doing this show this Poppa.
  21. Quite good Chuck. I like it. Everything feels right.
  22. That's some ambitious sculpting but it looks like you're getting it right and seems to be paying off. Keep going.
  23. Sometimes just fondling the plastic is as enjoyable as building.
