  1. Wow, that's excellent. Great link. They got every detail. Aside from the satirical writing of (one of my favorites) P.J. O'Rourke, someone knew every detail of model building.
  2. I've got a salvageable glue bomb of this that I've spent many sessions eyeballing for ideas on what to do with it. Nice to see one box stock. Looks neat. This should also be in the thread about let downs after opening the box. Very dramatic graphic on the cover, but a stubby head scratcher inside.
  3. I'm compelled to comment on this again... I think that's the most photogenic engine (front end?) I think I've ever seen. Engineered to perfection David.
  4. I dated a girl who saw the model bench in my apt. and recommended I not spread it around that I build model cars. She thought it was kind of embarrassing for me. I brought her to an IPMS "ModelCon" to enlighten her but at first she was convinced anything that ended in "con" was a nerd convention. She was blown away by some of the magazine caliber military dioramas and I almost had her completely changed until, in a heavy crowd, a very nerdy nerd parting his way through the crowd said in the wimpiest and most nasally voice you can imagine, "Excuse me kind sir." That moment validated all her prejudices and derailed all my progress.
  5. I'm rarely disappointed any more because I'm much more informed than I used to be about the age and expectations of most kits. One that comes to mind was the MPC '67 GTO. Dated stuff, like small engine, wire axles, reworked screw bottom, chrome headlights, ghostly trim. Still looks nice as a shelf model though.
  6. The AMT 49 Ford dog dish caps might not be too bad. You'd have to sand off the "Ford" script and paint them with Alclad II if you were particular.
  7. The U.S. at least has food standards oversight, whether by the FDA or other public safety groups. I'm pretty sure China is not as dedicated to such oversight. Just ask the pet industry where many animals have died from "safe" food products and chew toys that failed safety standards after they were green-lighted by their oversight agencies.
  8. Harry, what 14-year old says, "I'm just a kid?" Owen, for inspiration, check out member BKCustoms. I think he's 16 or 17 now, but his work as a 14-year old shows what you can accomplish once you get dialed in.
  9. Maybe just thank him for letting you build his models for him. Then maybe offer a trade of services where you will let him shovel your driveway, sidewalks and mow your lawn.
  10. Sounds like it's right up my alley, but all "productive" modeling seems to be on hold for me till further notice. I hope you get a good response for me to watch.
  11. Yup, very sad. He was just here at our art deco Fargo Theatre exactly 30 days ago. I didn't go, but I did see him at our blues fest a few years ago. He was rock solid, for sure.
  12. A bold choice to make the troublesome Revell kit appear stock. But it's very well done and the engine looks sooooo good.
  13. That's what you set on the show tables to blow people's minds. Super impressive. You can actually visibly see the time you have in it.
  14. I'm not sure a vast inventory is the objective. Looks to me like right now you have everything you need to make a quality build. A few more tools and a little more space and you'll be set for life. As with anything, if you gather too much then you don't own your stuff, your stuff owns you.
  15. But that's how we all entered music appreciation... getting turned on by the repetition of whatever the pop radio was playing. The more we listen, the more we learn and the more selective we become until you can't help expand your horizon into otherwise unknown territory, like Dave Brubeck or jazz in general. The fact that your son even questions it means he's noticing and beginning to sort out his own thoughts about music choice.
  16. LOVE the color. But another cute car that contemporary designers put a smiley face on. It's a tired styling fad that I hope we grow out of VERY soon.
  17. If it's a vinyl wrap, then the panel templates already exist. Find out who did the original layout and see if there's a way they'd scale them down, save as a pdf then you can take the files and decal paper to your home printer or a copy shop to print. Since you're a member of the race team it may not be too difficult to ask this favor.
  18. I never set out to be a collector and don't consider myself one. Yet there are several I won't build. I'm not driven by raw consumerism. I maybe have a greater sense of future and maybe feel like I'm keeper of the kit until someone else wants to enjoy what I've been able to enjoy. On some things, just appreciating the plastic is enjoyment enough. But I always buy with the intension of building, it just occasionally evolves into something else.
  19. Chuck, this one really surprised me. Super neat. Of your recent builds this is my favorite.
  20. Pastel colors are soft colors, so bright yellow may not be what she's asking for. A butter yellow might please her. If you airbrush, Testors Light Yellow SKU# 1112TT could make a nice pastel yellow. Even more so if you softened it with a touch of white mixed.
  21. Seein' as how the items are accurately labeled and priced at current market value.
  22. In a lesser experience, I had a letter returned to me missing the stamp. Though I used their self stick stamp, it fell off after it had been cancelled by the PO. You could see the dated post mark and a blank spot where the stamp had been. Clearly it had the correct postage at the point of approval.
  23. YES! I saw it in there a few weeks after I got my copy. Figuring you'd be too modest to boast, I took the copy to my GF who had my camera so I could get a pic to post here but the battery was dead. Then I never followed through. Congratulations! That car has really come a long way and you did a fine job.
