  1. The 180 is almost the spittin' image of the 180 my dad flew in the 50's. It was a company plane, but the owner had a different plane he preferred to fly so my dad got this one to use for business and pleasure. He had the Monogram float when I was a tyke. He tells the story of how he'd fly from ND to Austin, MN, then drive another 20-miles to visit my mom. One day upon his return to the Austin airport, he was aghast to find out that when the hanger owner ran out of room to store the parked planes, he tipped the tail draggers onto their noses to "stack" them better. Was a very tense trip back with every vibration a worry. But my question is how do you mask BMF without pulling off with the tape?
  2. Sickening. Brilliant recovery though. Dare I say it's even more compelling now. It's begging to be ensconced in a diorama, you've already started the process.
  3. Doesn't it strike you that posting a thread about incendiary topics isn't in itself laying gasoline and matches out to see what happens? I'm going to the Workbench.
  4. ...and that's just the spotting scope.
  5. Lens. Before pixel resolution was even a blip on the radar, photo hardware was all about the lens quality. That's what you spent the money on and you put a cap on it to protect it. Lenses the size of a piece of confetti pulled out of a grubby pocket or purse to grab a snap to me doesn't represent a concerted effort to take good pictures. Nothing personal Rob, it's just the bain of my existence as a graphic artist being handed cell phone snaps from clients who then expect to see glossy, rich, studio quality images on their ads because it looked okay on their 2x3 phone screen. I think lens consideration is still valid in a digital world, even if it's nothing fancy.
  6. Well done Matti.
  7. It's the auto equivalence of this...
  8. "...When television is bad, nothing is worse...what you will observe is a vast wasteland." - Former FCC Chairman Newton Minnow. Seinfeld: NBC Chief of Programming: "(If it's a show about nothing) then why would I watch it?" George: "Because it's on TV."
  9. I like it too.
  10. A real beauty. Lovely color, great work.
  11. Definitely artwork on the cover. That said, I won't buy it if I can't see somewhere on the box what the model looks like.
  12. Sentimental favorite. F1 in my mind is always this car.
  13. Thanks for the 'go juice' John. I hope I get another couple hours this week to move forward and put this to bed. I'm anxious to start the next one.
  14. Amazing how well those wheels set it off. Very astute choice.
  15. Reminds me of the old business axiom: "Fast • Good • Cheap, you can pick two." My guess they picked fast & cheap.
  16. I got the airbrush fired up and had a few evenings this week to eke out some production so my first effort went to the engine. I've been dying to see how this shapes up. Still have to determine if I want to embellish it more. The interior worked out okay but I'm pretty rusty on my detailing. Will need to touch it up a tad. I tested an oil based wash on the foot pad which turned out miserably. It won't be seen but now I know to abandon that technique. Some color on the body, letting it sit before buffing. Roof still needs paint and the dash to be detailed. Here's the drive arm with mesh added and painted. There'll be a little more detailing but not much.
  17. Opened up the paper at lunch and saw your sparkling mug, luckily it wasn't a heavy lunch . I don't know how they latched onto you, but it couldn't have been a nicer article about one of areas best hobby representatives. Congrats, Junior.
  18. I've enjoyed success with detail cutting using the scissor from a Swiss Army Knife.
  19. For as many people who condemn this kit, a lot of them seem to own it. This may be the reason why. It's just good enough for modelers to know it can be built up nicely with a little effort. This is the second one I've seen built well and is the best one I've seen. Love the engine detail. I know you applied yourself there too. Lovely work.
  20. Any auctioneer will tell you that bidding generates interest. I'm one of the guys who sits quiet till the end, then throws in my max bid. If I didn't get it, then it was more than i would have been willing to pay. Other times I get it cheap. But true or not, I feel like I'm keeping my own price down by not generating attention getting action.
  21. Superb Curt. That first shot could've qualified for "Real or Model?"
  22. Gutsy! A bold project but you pulled it off. How can ya not love a concept custom?
  23. Reminds me of the famous "buried Belvedere." Other than rusting it a lot more discriminately, as you've already noted, I'd say your technique is fabulous.
  24. All Time Races run but never had a win 1) JD McDuffie, 653 [never finished a race on the lead lap] 2) Buddy Arrington, 563 [some have 560] 3) Neil Castles, 498 [some have 501] 4) Dave Blaney 466* 5) Jimmy Means, 455 6) Cecil Gordon, 449 7) G.C. 25. I know. Rats. That was neat though.
