  2. Thanks JC....that's what I've resorted to in the past.......hate cutting up that spare body of course. cheers, tim
  3. JC, I HAVE to ask, what's your method for getting such a clean curbed cut like that on the front end? I've got to do that on the mav and I've had success in the past but I didn't get it as clean as yours. Any tips are appreciated. cheers, tim
  4. Everyone on the forum should see this build Tomasz. It's so stunning and clean and I love the natural light pics. Flawless! Congrats of course AND I have to agree, it might / should be considered one of the all time best looking cars. WOW! cheers, tim

  14. Thank you Jim, that comment put a big smile on my face after having been away for so long. Hey Dave, always good to hear from you........and yes, I did know that..........caused some headaches too if I remember correctly. Congrats again on that coverage of your car in "Bangshift"........that was a well covered & attended show. I would like to make that one next year myself. Hello Chris, well, I DID just have eye surgery and the Opti-Visor is a must for me too........but yeah, they're tiny parts! thanks!!! Francis, appreciate it most assuredly. Can't wait to see the final "beauty shots" on your epic build. That's been fun to follow! Ian, thank you too........got a ways to go but I'm now detailing the rack as we speak. Should have some final pics to share this week of that and then onto the next "bits"...........Cheers everyone! tim
  15. Hey Bruce, agree on the Maverick as a Pro Stock racer, one of my all time favorites too. Hope you enjoy the rest of the thread. Today I got some more parts made on the Pinto rack & pinion steering that I'm fabricating for the car. During the early 70's, Pro Stock racers like Don Carlton (Motown & Mopar Missile fame) were looking for any edge they could find. They were one of the early race teams to experiment with titanium parts on their cars. Apollo Welding (eventually known as Trick Titanium) was a pioneer in the field and worked closely with Carlton. I found a great pic of a Pinto rack & pinion on the Gapp & Roush "Taxi" (the 4 door Maverick). Since mine is a "phantom build" I'm taking some liberties and doing some things in different materials and trying to use/fabricate parts that might have been feasibly made of titanium. The first pic is the pic of the G & R car. I will abbreviate titanium with it's elemental symbol "ti" as I'm lazy when it comes to some things. Cheers to all following along!! tim This 2nd pic shows a hi-lited image of the brackets used to attach the rack to the car frame. I machined them in ti. On the mill is a pic of the teeny tiny diamond shaped "cap" you can see on the gear assembly.....there will be 2 and I fabricated those of mild steel. They need to be parted off and tiny bolts attached. The next pic shows the titanium shaft with two tapered aluminum pieces that will be used to replicate the rubber "boots". The rubber washers you see will slip over the alum. pieces........ This was my source for the micro rubber washers, I've found these to be quite useful in many aspects of building....... To replicate the diamond shape bits on the gear assembly from left to right are the ti diamond body, ti brackets and the mild steel diamond caps. All to be parted off yet of course. Last pic is a mock-up of what it's going to look like. The entire "gear box" portion is made of ti except for the caps of course.
  16. Charlie, love those shots of the front and rear suspension mock-ups in particular. Just from my eye amongst all these great pics is the one of the front axle........she's especially sweet. cheers, tim
  17. Panel beaters...........yeah! Much respect Daniel and can't wait to see more. cheers, tim
  18. Congrats Eric on the build & the award! Truly deserved......however.......I can't wait to see what you do with the dragster. With your talents and imagination, it'll be an awesome addition to this one. Cheers, tim
  19. Hi Ian, Francis, Daniel & Chris.......Just saying that I thank you for your posts on the car.....sometimes we all need that little bit of support for whatever the reason may be. Dave, that's a great way of describing the process. I can only hope that the rest of the bits and pieces come along as well. cheers GoatGuy (Dave) - we've got together again sometime soon and get caught up. thanks for checking it out once more! Status on the build, I've got 1/2 of the steering rack made and I'm just waiting on some raw material to finish it. In the meantime I've got the main chassis rails drawn and ready to go (they'll be brass btw) so as soon as rack is done I'm going to machine them. Soon! Cheers one and all, Tim
  20. Ian, super nice job on the new cowling......subtle BUT it does make a difference and the wheels look fantastic. Oh so close! tim
  21. Congratulations Francis, she's a beauty. All of your hard work has certainly paid off and you've every right to be proud of what you created. This is a truly exceptional model and showcases your talents as few others might or could. The documentation you did along the way has been a help to all of us modelers and I know I learned some things too. Cheers, Tim
  22. Love the solution you came up with on the door handles Mark. In aluminum, it really pulls it together. Cheers, tim
  23. Joe, thanks for the compliment. It's fun getting back into the swing of things. cheers Jason, machining them was a challenge I set for myself instead of making fabricated tubular ones. During the early 70's pro-stock rules stipulated you had to use "stock" (most were modified extensively) upper & lower control arms. Not sure how Grumpy and others got around that at that time. I wanted to mimic modified but STOCK control arms, the lowers will be the same when it's time for them. Thanks for checking it out. Daniel & Ian & Ray - it DOES feel good and I'm pleased that I've not forgotten anything. After that long layoff its fun to get back to it and I'm eager to get onto the next parts..... cheers, tim Francis, thanks sir. To be honest, I only took my dremel with the "soft wire wheel" on them with a few passes and they came out as you see them. I did shape them with a sanding stick in a few places to get the final shape.......cheers, tim Today I parted them off and took a moment to take pics to share. All that's left of them is the ball joints and the 4 (per) bolts on the top ball joint plate. Cheers everyone! Tim
  24. Thanks for the info MIke. I'm not in need of one but it looked so nice I just had to ask where it came from or how you made it. tim
  25. That just looks oh so right JC. Like that last pic especially. cheers, tim
