  1. Hello Ian, Ray, Dave & Charlie........I want to say thanks first of all for the sentiments. I DO follow your works as well even if I don't post as often as I used to. Would like to see Dave re-visit the bench and finish his last dragster project.....hint-hint. Again, thanks! The front brakes are done. Onto the rears in between helping my 12 year old daughter work on her Science Fair project........she IS ambitious I'll say that much. Once the rear brakes are done, I'm going onto the frame. I have most of what I need to get really going on it now. I must machine the front spindles, fab the shocks front and back assemble & fabricate bits and pieces on the Lenco ( I received a BEAUTIFUL 3D rendered 4 speed Lenco from a friend that will impress when you see it. It's the best Lenco I've sever seen and the material is something else) a myriad of other small bits and pieces and this build should be finished by NEXT Fall......yes, I admit I'm slowing down. CHEERS! Tim 2 pics of the front calipers I attempted to replicate. btw, their 3.1mm in width...............the actual was 2.8" (2.8mm) I don't think you'll notice though.
  2. I really like the rendering Paul. The rear wing adds something extra to it. cheers, tim
  3. Good morning Francis, you sure are right about that.......I don't mind losing one from time to time, I've had 2 in a row go "poof"......adjusted speed & feed and then good to go. The "fins" themselves are .15mm in thickness........... Daniel, this will surprise you perhaps but the length of cut on this particular end mill is only .85mm overall. I came in on the piece from the end of course after dropping it down to the max length of .85. Ran the speed to 10,000 rpm (the max my machine will spin) and then s-l-o-w-l-y worked it in to the piece. Each cut was 1.5mm in length. I would back out (SLOWLY ) the end mill when I got about half way into each cut, cleaned off the end mill and the slot (I use a soft, narrow bristle brush) and then finished the cut. It's important to back the end mill out slowly as it can easily snap on the way out if there are cuttings in the slot. I DO use an air vacum to pull shavings away from the piece as I'm milling too. Helps to clean it out of the way of the end mill and keeps the workplace a bit cleaner. I learned that little tip from Dave (comp1839) Hope this helps you in some way. cheers, tim
  4. Thank you Chris. I DO enjoy the 935 build of yours right now as well. Daniel, I appreciate the sentiments. Hope you continue to follow and enjoy the rest of the build. Brian, glad you took the time to view and comment on the build. cheers Francis & Fernandez - Thank you both too gentlemen. After fussing around I got one side of one of the front disc brake calipers done. Outboard side and one more to match then onto the 2 inboard sides which are a bit different and more challenging than this little bugger. Didn't snap off one end mill either. YEAH. the fins are cut in using a .010" (.27mm) end mill. The dimensions are 4.0 x 3.0 x 1.4mm Some days on the mill are better than others.....to mill this the machine was REALLY dialed in today. Not always the case I assure you.....cheers, tim
  5. Love the outdoor shots Ian. Really makes the entire car "pop". Always enjoy those pics. cheers, tim
  6. I'm as shocked as anyone. He was truly a talented builder. Prayers and thoughts for his family.
  7. Thanks Bob.......sadly, it never left my bench.....just me for a bit. I have gotten some minor things done on the hubs/brakes etc. The front Fly wheels needed bearing caps so I turned those down........the hubs now have their rotors finished. Everything you see is only mocked-up and not secured yet. All 4 steel brakes discs rest upon a machined titanium "spacer".....I neglected to heat stain those 4 pieces prior to taking the pics and future pics will be correct. The calipers and their support brackets are next. I'm going to use the drawings I used for the Bantam rear brakes and draw up some small Airheart/Hurst calipers for the fronts. I'm going to attempt to machine the calipers in aluminum instead of Renshape but the details are so small, I'm not sure I can pull that off. Renshape will be my back-up plan. The brackets themselves, like the hubs will be titanium. Neither the front nor rear wheels will be removable. I'm detailing the wheels with tire valves and some perfect T2M lug nuts I came across instead. cheers, tim I'm pretty thrilled with how the brake disc lines up just inside the outer portion of the tire even though this pic deceives in where it truly is. The actual Pro Stocks lined up exactly the same and the caliper overhang will only be the back half of the caliper outside the tire itself. Hope that makes some sense.
  8. Okay John..........time to put your tent and grill away, the vacation is over. ? We're all waiting on your next update sir. cheers, tim
  9. Just a great look car you're looking to build no matter what. This will certainly be one to follow. cheers, tim
  10. Very well thought out Francis and of course, well executed. This is truly an awe inspiring build. cheers, tim
  11. Glad I got my eyes fixed recently........such goodness to behold. More please ??!!! cheers, tim
  12. It's been 1 year since I put this up......bangshift.com has pics galore of this years Bonneville time trials. The Speed Demon won overall top speed again. More great pics that bangshift has to offer over the last week if your curious. They post an update of pics almost daily and have since early last week. A few pics the Demon. cheers, tim
  13. Bill, sooo many interesting details to see and appreciate. Can I ask if you could take some pics outside when it's done so we can see more of them. I realize lighting is an issue but this build deserves more "exposure". (pun intended) cheers, tim
  14. Francis, thanks man. Made some more headway the last couple days, hope to have a few more bits and pieces to post soon. Thanks too Dave! After I get the rear hubs done then I can get to the calipers & their brackets done. Then onto the brass chassis. Appreciated Chris.........time to get that new thread started here. hint-hint............ Randy, I just stumbled across your latest updates on your Birdcage.......talk about inspiring. For those that haven't seen Randy's scratch-built masterpiece be sure to check it out under the LSR category just below the Drag category. Thanks too Randy! Ian, totally agree. It brought back new enthusiasm to the hobby for me. I still can't get over the difference now. And thank you! Charlie, not sure what I could possibly teach you but as I've commented, the forum is "rich" with scratch-builders right now and we're all the better for it. Some real talent all over the place. CHEERS TO ONE AND ALL! tim
  15. This just looks "oh so right" Ian. cheers, tim
  16. Boy did that turn out nice. Great looking car sir. cheers, tim
  17. So great to see so many talented scratch-builders on the forum. I know of a couple more that I've been "pestering" to post their latest and greatest efforts here as well. Beautiful Charlie. cheers, tim
  18. Nice updates Chris. Appreciate your sharing! cheers, tim
  19. Hey stranger........ALWAYS a good day when you post your latest and greatest efforts Randy. Glad to see your progress and the engine is going to be a stunner no doubt. Best to you, tim
  20. Hi Mike, for the Ti, I mostly use On-line metals for what I use. They cut to length, have a great ranges of sizes and metal grades and ship very quickly. Because of the small diameter sizes I'm using most of the time, the price for Ti isn't nearly as bad as you might think. You can also find odd sizes (metric) on line at ebay / amazon........even some at 4" in length. It's working with it that takes a bit of patience. It work hardens fairly quickly and can destroy tools almost instantly. Low speeds & feeds (which ones I've discovered by researching and experimenting with) proper cutting fluid helps tremendously too and finally carbide tools, not HSS. Hope this helps to answer your question and for others that might want to try it out too. cheers, tim Good morning Bill, Well now, you have a rare car there so you had best figure a build slot for it and get her done. JoHan's were pretty nice cars. cheers Fernandez, thanks sir. Lots of detail work to add yet but it's something after such a long lay off. Start small as they say. (no pun intended) cheers, tim
  21. Dave, 2 1/2 weeks into the post op. All good and I appreciate you're asking. What a difference is all I can say. Charlie, too funny on the one score. I had Lasik 21 years ago and got lucky then and this turned out as well as I could imagine/hope for. Thanks again, Tim Bob, thank you as well. I just always liked the Maverick body style. I envy the fact you actually owned one and I'm willing to bet you'd like to have it back. cheers, tim The past week I got back to the bench finally. I machined some mild steel brake discs for the car and machined the front hubs out of titanium. They're heat stained btw. I have included a pic of the infamous Mopar Missile "wire car" front hub as a reference. That particular car has a fascinating history even though it never raced in Pro Stock as it was intended / built for. I'm either going to do the rear hubs in titanium too or might go a different direction of a Gapp & Roush hub I like. Anyways, back at it and it feels oh so good doing so. Cheers again to each and every one of you!! tim If I told anyone how much time I spent to get just these parts done............well, nevermind......I won't admit it.
  22. Very cool build Ian. That distributor ( along with the rest of the car ) are pretty nice to say the least. You gotta be happy with where you are now with it. cheers, tim
  23. Ray, nice, nice car. I think you're wife was right about the color. I would love to see the car shot in natural light as I'm sure it will pop. Any input / insights you have on that duplicolor clear you're using would be helpful. Looks nice in the pics. cheers, tim
  24. Chris, I'm a purist, I admit that. Not good or bad but as much as I want to look away, you're build has my interest. Never thought I'd say THAT but.............good luck with the build and all kidding aside, I'll be checking it out. cheers, tim
  25. S-W-E-E-T Francis. I'm diabetic and this is one serious sugar high. You're killin' me..........? cheers, tim
