  1. Gave it another wash of gray, and burnt umber. Then made up some check out counters. And added a canopy. Light for the rear of the building. I see now I need to add support wires to the light fixture.
  2. Got out of doing 1/24-1/25th and now mainly do Ho scale stuff. Here are a few of my others I do though. this was done for a auction for a friend of mine, to help his family after he passed away. Repaint on a dummy engine I bought. It was gray, and red. These were done over the years for the Vet's Club autions. Total of the builds brought in over $3,500.00 for the trucks. Did this one for a contest build, then doneted it to the local air museum. The pic is the one displayed at the local ANG here. Also have a few more planes on the shelf, and a couple of ship kits. Lastly I like to the old monster figures. These are resin. These are reissued from Moeibus. My current build are in the diorama section.
  3. nope no layout. The flag pole is made of aluminum tubing in 1/8, 3/32, and 1/16 dia. I used a ball headed pin for the top, and beading wire for the cord. The flag decal is from Micro Scale.
  4. I get them from the LHS here in town. I don't have a train layout I just like to build the kits for diorama use. I do have a dummy diesel engine, and some cars that will be incorporated into the dio eventually.
  5. Had a nasty seam on the corner. so to hide it I made this. So to hide it I made this.
  6. Decided to break up the monotony of a all white building. The multicolor bricks were done with some new markers pens I found today. As you can see here the sign painter came and did his thing.
  7. Just added this one today to my projects to do list. More details later.
  8. No problem I haven't tried it myself, but that has been posted over on another site by many people in the know.
  9. Here's a tip you. Primer first in silver. then do your main primer color, and then the color coats. the silver will seal the plastic from bleed through.
  10. Not content with working on one project I started this one along with the fire dept. It has a photo back drop to be added for the store interior, so this will be a quick build. Also they supplied decals for a semi delivery truck. Another project for the future.
  11. Currently this is what is done. First front, and rear shots. Next is the floor bracing start, and the office mock up. Then the 2nd floor. I see that I have some repainting yet to do again, along with a lot of other things yet.
  12. It's 1/87th scale. It was in the Monogram Mini Exacts line up. Nicely done little vehicles. Heres one i redid, the green one. Here are some others. It was also released in a 6 pack set of cars.
  13. Interesting points of veiw from all. Back in the 80's I managed a craft/hobby store in Mhd. When I started there they were basically all about crafts, dolls, beads and the such. The owner did it because she was a crafter. I started after her death, and got the management ot add to the model car, and such line of merchandise, as that is what I knew. However I took time to educate myself in the other fields of merchandise we sold, and became fairly knowledgeable with the same. Got to be I got to know some of the regular customers quite well, and we implemented a discount program for them. Also if they were looking for something special I would order it for them. Basically it came down to customer service. As for the internet I have bought a few things on that auction site, but find I can get it faster, and get better service here at my LHS. Besides the one shop we have her we have 2 specialty shops that carry RC planes only, and the other RC cars only. We also have a Michael's, and a Hobby Lobby, which has downsized the area that I frequent the most, trains, and dio supplies. But ti still frequent them on hunting for other items I may find useful. Check out the bead dept. sometime, and just let your imagination go wild. All sorts of different items that can made use of. Back to our LHS, I knew the manager when he run the Gager's Hobby Store here in the 70's. They moved though after sometime, which left us with a small MOM and POP place. This one closed due to the decision to add white ware( plaster castings), and the lack of just because. Now back to the local LHS, back in the 80's again the current shop opened up here, and I frequent him regularly. He provides a good selection of product, is quite knowledgeable in all aspects of the supplies he stocks, trains, models RC, gaming, and more. Also you can talk with him about new products, and he will special order for you. He orders on Tue, and you get it Fri of the same week. Recently he revamped the shop to give modeler's, and the gamers a place to meet once a month. This is room he could use to stock product, but has done this for those who keep him going. His staff though young, are fairly knowledgeable about what they sell, with most being into a specialty like RC or gaming. I do however about twice a year drive to Mpls. 250 miles away to peruse a couple of the hobby shops there. I can go in, and find stuff that isn't stocked here in town, and load up on different supplies, or OOP kits, and paints. As for the net, I have ordered a few things, but don't do much online, as I prefer the face to face contact. It's great to talk to some one about your ideas, and get their take on it. Well that's just 2 cents worth. Oh yeah before I forget the store I worked for closed due to bad management by the CEO, didn't pay the bills like he should have.
  14. Thats what I did but sometimes it comes up goofy. Thanks for redoing the pic for me.
  15. I got this for my Birthday from my wife. A framed print of this pic. What is really scary about it it looks like my Dad. He built only one model in his life, and I still have it today. He built this one in 1953 the year I was born. He decided I should have a hobby, little did he relize where it would lead to. %5BIMG%5Dhttp://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a2/mercman51/My Models/Firstmodel.jpg The artist is Jason Bullard, if you want to do a Google search, he has some neat prints like this one.
  16. HO scale It's a new kit from Walther's.
  17. Well after the slot shop the bench looked empty so I started this one. Getting it ready for the paint booth. Still have to add all of the windows, and doors yet. BTW this thing is huge.
  18. I'm going to put a fork in it and call it done. here are some of the final pics. Track is in along with seating. %5BIMG%5Dhttp://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a2/mercman51/Construction%20Zone/Hobby%20Slot%20Shop/Misc002_zps85a1ba73.jpg Decided to light up the place also. %5BIMG%5Dhttp://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a2/mercman51/Construction%20Zone/Hobby%20Slot%20Shop/Misc002_zps46e814cb.jpg There are a few small details yet to dealt with, but those will come when final placement is made. For all of the pics of the build go here. http://s8.photobucket.com/user/mercman51/library/Construction%20Zone/Hobby%20Slot%20Shop?sort=3&page=1
  19. First up you will need to find a good piece of material like a heavy duty Kleenex.. Drape this over your model with a piece of plastic like Saran wrap under it to protect the model, then spray with water lightly. this will cause the tissue to droop. When you are happy with the result coat it with a diluted solution of white glue. Elmers works good mixed 50/50 glue to water. Let this dry, then paint what ever color you choose. When dry remove the under coating of plastic, and reposition the tarp.
  20. Recently I made a trade for a load of HO scale fire trucks, so needed a new headquarters for them The ones I have now are rather dated. This is a 2 part kit as the other part is a maintenance shed, that could be used for any type of building.
  21. I am sure it was I saw one on a diorama in MPLS. done by the model club there back in the 70's.
  22. The garbage truck was released, along with the Ryder truck also. The garbage truck was a early 70's release, and the Louisville with the Ryder decals has been done several times with different logo's.
  23. Milner's Last Ride. 1/64th scale http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a2/mercman51/Construction Zone/Milnors Last Ride/Misc004-1.jpg These 2 are 1/87th scale Deadman's Curve diorama http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a2/mercman51/Construction Zone/DMC/Misc006-2.jpg Here is one for IMSANUT who was looking for Race track scenes. http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a2/mercman51/Fall Classic Race/track005.jpg
  24. Great to hear that. I can relate to your story also. I had the same thing happen when my daughter was 10. She placed in every contest she entered her 49 Ford in. The only thing I helped with was the engine wiring. She's now 25 and builds a model now and then yet. Tell congratulations , and to keep up the good work. Also You may want to invest in some new shelving, for all of her awards that will be forthcoming.
