Model Builder Poll
gasser59 replied to Dave Ambrose's topic in Model Cars Magazine News and Discussions
Thanks for the opportunity to provide input. Hope the survey proves fruitful and you're able to put the results to good use. -
I was able to get the second frame straighten out so its onward and upward. This build is on hold for a bit while a put together a kit for our upcoming Moonlight Modelers meeting next Saturday. The theme is Fire Related Vehicles and I'm hosting so I should have something on the table.

Absolutely amazing! Thanks for posting Randy.

Upon further inspection, this glue bomb frame isn't straight either. I think I have one more in a Ramchargers kit that's new so I can hopefully keep it straight. I shant give up.

Twice with the hair dryer didn't work so off on another direction. I have another frame that's from a glue bomb but it is straight. Minor setback. I DID get the body painted over this past weekend and now its ready for the decals. Hope to get that done either tonight or tomorrow.

Well, after a close inspection, I found the front of my frame is crooked. This will take some figuring out. Thinking of putting it in a form to the correct shape and using a hair dryer. The fun continues...

A bit of bench time over the last few days and was able to make the front frame piece that holds the friction shocks. I know plastic wouldn't be strong enough so I used brass. I'm still waiting on parts in order to proceed much further.
-
Thanks again Jesse. I'm waiting on parts to continue, should be early this week. Stay tuned...

You're off to a good start. I love the Willys pickups so I'll be following along.
-
Thanks for that clarification Jesse. That makes sense now but that doesn't fit with the MAG body too well.
-
This weekend I began work on the working steering by using brass rectangle and aluminum tubing. I also ordered some rod ends and stainless steel tubing from RB Motion. Still a bunch more to do but got a good start.

Thanks for your comments Tim. A bit of progress last couple of days. I'm not sure what the folks at MPC were thinking when they made the seat. It just plain doesn't fit as shown by the attached picture. Its too tall. The body and the frame where the seat is almost need to touch in the final assembly so why the seat hangs down so far, I'm not sure. I cut out two rows of the tuck and roll pattern at the bottom of the seat and tonight, glued it back together. The seat belts are molded in so I'll fabricate new ones and cover up the molded-in ones. Here's a couple of pictures showing the process. Later.

This will be an accurate as possible to the movie car. I know certain elements of this car were out of date but I want to be true to the movie car. A few unanswered questions still remain and I'm working through those.

Jerry - I have an extra original Ramchargers body I will donate to your project, just pay shipping, if that interests you. Let me know. -
Ramchargers Dragster Reissue - Wrong Body
gasser59 replied to jlucky's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Nice Milner rail. I'm building one right now. Where did you find the Moroso valve covers? Mine came from a Dodge Daytona kit but the text is not very pronounced. -
Thanks Lil' Brother! I didn't care for the MPC blower and injector hat so I sourced one each from a Revell kit. looks more appropriate. The problem with the two piece scoop is the fact the butterflies are a separate piece and need to be put in place before the top and bottom halves are put together thus showing a seam. This won't do. I pondered this for some time and came up with a solution I think will work. More on that later. I went ahead and glued the halves together and sanded the seams down. This, along with the Moroso valve covers will get a shot of Alclad Chrome eventually. Here's a couple of progress pics.

Ramchargers Dragster Reissue - Wrong Body
gasser59 replied to jlucky's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
I bought the new Ramchargers kit but didn't have the earlier version, so I'm not sure of the difference. I have an old two-piece body I picked that has the shorter rear section. Here's a pic of a resin that matches the Milner rail and another that's shorter between the cockpit and the chute area. Is that what you mean? -
Holy cow, I can't believe its been two weeks already. Here's a couple pictures and yes, a 'please' helped. Been sourcing engine parts and working on getting them to fit inside the narrow chassis. I'm using the '57 Chevy Black Widow engine block and heads although that may change if I find something better. I was eyeing the new Mobieus Nova II engine last night but haven't concluded my investigations yet.

Well, after some time away, I'm back to the bench. Its getting too hot here to do much of anything outside so its bench time, thankfully. I know this one has been done to death but I've not seen a build of this iconic car where the decals are correct. I drew up my own and made the body fit them. Now I'll send them off for printing. As for the aforementioned body. I glued the two halves from the American Graffiti kit together and cut off the top body panel as it should be. Still sourcing a few pieces for the engine but a good friend found the small block Chevy Moroso valve covers, which was holding me up on choosing the right sized engine block. The kit came with a hemi they tried to pass off as a small block by changing the valve covers, not very convincing. I'll have some progress pictures in the next couple of days.

Holy schmoley that is gorgeous Tim!! Its almost inconceivable to believe this is in 1/25th scale. My hat's off to you!

Well, it appears that I can't find the thread for the original Scout Truck that I built for Dale so I'll post this here. Mind you, this isn't the same truck that appears in this thread, it was a prototype, so to speak. Dale donated this truck to the Airstream Factory Museum in Jackson Center, Ohio and it is now on display. I'm deeply honored and thoroughly humbled.

Whatever happened to the build Kerry? I've pulled mine from the shelf and am back on it. Sadly, I never finished up the decals which I'm working on now. I had a major health issue which sidelined me for a couple of years and now I'm back to building.

Well fellas, this one is done and in the display case. Now to figure out what's up next, I have so many to choose from. I have a couple of isolated diorama pieces I've been fiddling with so one of them will be next. Thanks for all of your interest, comments and following along on this journey. It was greatly appreciated.
