Thanks Tim. You're right, I am not that far from D.C. Out of curiousity, what LHS are you using? I've been going to Frederick, MD and Winchester, VA.

Do Maskol and Micromask work with one coat? I have been using Parma liquid mask, and it works fine, but you have to use 3-4 coats, with the associated drying time. Kind of a pain. Also I hope there is a reasonable source for Maskol in the U.S. I did a quick search and found it on Amazon. $30 for a 28 ml bottle! (And no, that is not a typo!)

What did you see on the road today?
Kit Basher replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
A '65 Dodge Polara. Gorgeous! Metallic green with a white top. It was being driven, and considering it was the same stretch of road, the same time of day, and the same day of the week, it might have been the same guy I saw in the AMC Eagle. -
I do autos in 1/25-24 for the same reasons everyone else has mentioned. I like 1/48 for aircraft. I did not know there was a 1/25 Huey. It looks like it is OOP. I bet it is huge, but it would sure be cool done up as a Medevac and posed with other emergency vehicles! Speaking of huge, I do have the 1/72 B 52, but it will have to wait until I can figure out a place to put it.

I've used the DM distributor in your left picture. They're pretty easy to use, and I like that the wires are spread out around the top, instead of being in a clump in the middle. It's also nice that you get 4,6,8 cylinders and the wire looms and other PE parts. I like the size of the wire. The downside is that it doesn't look like a real distributor cap, since there are no ribs on the side, and once you get nine boots on top there is no space between them. Crazy as it sounds, I've gone back to drilling out kit distributors, I think it just looks better.

1964 International Dump Truck Cab
Kit Basher replied to Loadmat's topic in Truck Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Don't tease me, Dave! I've been waiting for you to finish that Loadstar cab for years! (I'm just kidding, I'm sure you have a lot more important things to do. But check out my avatar!) -
Very cool! Where do you get 1/64" ID tubing? I have looked in several shops, and the K&S website, the smallest I have found is 1/16" OD. I guess the 1/16" OD is probably 1/32" ID, but I can't find anything smaller.

Is this stuff clear enough to do headlight lenses? -
I don't have any special kits where I am trying to preserve the boxes, but I have mine stacked like 12 high. I see no sign of the boxes crushing or falling over.

I think I will do that, Mike. IE acts weird in some other ways on here as well. MULTIPLE EXPLETIVES DELETED, involving Bill Gates, his parentage, Microsoft, and a place where the sun don't shine. "We will force you to have a product that is a pain in the butt to use, and doesn't work as good as what you already had." What a great business model!

Thanks for trying, Carl. I tried the Direct code and the HTML code. For whatever reason, nothing will paste into the MCM box. I also tried "Control-V" to paste, no joy.

Can anyone give some advice on why I cannot post pictures from Photobucket any more? The copy and paste method worked fine with my old computer running Windows XP. Now I have a new laptop running Windows 8.1 and the latest Internet Explorer, and I got nothin'. When I click on the IMG code in Photobucket, it shows "Copied". When I try to paste it onto MCM, nothing happens. I tried using the Link button in the MCM reply box. The link box opened and I could paste the code from Photobucket into it, but when I clicked the OK button it basically froze. Help!

paint masks for windshields?
Kit Basher replied to metalhead's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
There is a technique for doing this with a black Sharpie. It works well. You kinda hook the Sharpie on the edge of the glass and drag it around. Obviously, I am not the best guy to explain it in detail, so a search might be in order. HTH -
What gauge wire for spark plug wire?
Kit Basher replied to dawgvet's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Jed, I have been using Detail Master plug wire. It is definitely smaller than 30 ga. insulated wire. I also looked at the 32 and 34 ga. wire from the same source you mentioned. I have not bought any yet, so if you get some before I do, please give us a review. If I get there first, I will let you know. -

Has anyone tried doing the black first, then masking and shooting the body color? -
Painting black window trim- 2009 Challenger
Kit Basher replied to Kit Basher's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
That looks great Brian, that's exactly what I want. How did you do the masking? Did you put tape on and then cut around the openings? What Tamiya paint did you use, flat or semi-gloss? Thanks -
I'm working on a 2009 Challenger, and could use some help with the window trim. I'm not talking about the black on the clear parts (windshield, etc.). My problem is the black plastic/ rubber that goes around the window openings on the body. I would like to spray it if possible. I'm thinking about spraying the black, masking it with BMF, and them spraying the body color. Or would it be better to paint the body, mask that, and then spray the black? Or are there other alternatives? There are a lot of areas on this car where black meets body color: all four window openings, grille, taillight area, rocker panels, air dam, and some areas under the hood. Suggestions please! Thanks much.

What was your 1st 1 to car
Kit Basher replied to 69NovaYenko's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The first car I bought was a 1974 Toyota Corolla SR5. Massive 1600 cc, 5 speed manual, no A/C, no power anything. I treated it like a mini RV, lived in it for over a year and it took me to 43 of the 50 states. The thing thought it was a Jeep, I drove all over mountain logging roads, and it went in snow almost like a 4WD. The tranny finally went at 275K, but it had a hard life and served me well. Here is the model I made of it. -
That Badger is the only A/B I own, and I like it just fine. Easy to use, easy to clean, and has held up well for 20 years. If you can find the little accessory cup that plugs in where the jars go, it's really nice for small quantities of paint. Hope you like it too!

Lack of motivation to build
Kit Basher replied to MPi-KM's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I build so slowly it's impossible to tell if I'm motivated or not! -
Thanks David and Cato. I'm headed to the store tomorrow and will see if I can pick up some bottles.
