You're right, don't let paint dry on your brushes. I agree with Carl, keep a small bottle of mineral spirits on your bench. As soon as you're done with a brush, swish it in mineral spirits and roll it on a paper towel. Your Wal Mart thinner might work just fine used that way.

Wow! That is gorgeous! The paint is amazing. With the right background that would easily pass for a 1:1. Awesome work!

'68 Mustang Trans Am racer specs?

Thanks for those links, Jeff. Sites like that are what got me interested in building this type of car. I just don't know enough about them to build a halfway accurate model of one. -
'68 Mustang Trans Am racer specs?
Kit Basher replied to Kit Basher's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I should have been more clear. The kit I have is a '68. The photo is of the type of car I want to build, not the specific car I want to build. So I'm looking for info for a '68. General info about these cars over several years would also be helpful. -
I want to build this car, but I know almost nothing about it. Not having much success searching online. I don't mind some kit bashing and scratch building. I could use any info about the correct engine, suspension, brakes, rollcage, interior, etc., etc., etc. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Something like this:

Putting solder inside the tube definitely works if you can find the right size to fit your tubing.

I have a bottle of Pactra R/C car paint that has large silver flakes in clear lacquer. I tried it thru my A/B and it worked fine. I think It would be what you are calling "boat flake", but I do remember a 1:1 car I saw at a show in the sixties that had flakes that were like 3/4 inch square. I may give it a try sometime.

OUCH!!!

Thanks Jason. Your friend must have been very serious to get one stuck. I tried almost everything imaginable to get mine stuck, and never succeeded. I ran snow tires on the back year round, the thing thought it was a Jeep!

Cool idea and really nice execution. Good luck keeping tires on that thing!

Lets See Your Replicas of Yours/Your Families Cars
Kit Basher replied to Platerpants's topic in Model Cars
I already posted this "Under Glass", but it seems appropriate to put it here as well. This is the first car I bought. 1974 Toyota Corolla SR5. -
Thanks Ray! Your Corolla looks great. It looks like you painted the screw heads on the fender flares. I wasn't brave enough to try that. I don't think there were that many of the SR5 version in the U.S. In fact, mine was the only one I have ever seen. I've seen a few of the 1200cc models, but that's it.

HOLY COW! A guy at the flea market was cleaning house today, and made me an offer I couldn't refuse. I plan to give most of this stuff away to anyone who will pay the shipping, so PM me if you see something that trips your trigger. Everything in the first picture is fair game. Some of the stuff in the second and third pictures I plan to keep. Once I have a chance to go thru it all, I will be putting it in the "Trades" section, for give away/ trade.

This is the Fujimi Toyota TE27 Levin kit. Out of production and hard to find. I got lucky!

This is a model of the first car I bought. It did have a hemi, just not the one you're thinking of. This was the 1600cc, four cylinder variety. About 85 monster HP, if I remember right. It had the first 5 speed manual I ever saw. This was a great car for a twenty-something guy (reclining bucket seats! ), and with gas as horribly expensive as it was (45 cents a gallon!) I could afford to drive it. It lasted almost 300,000 miles, and took me to 43 of the 50 States. It had a hard life, but I remember it fondly. Hope you like it. The paint is Duplicolor, and the vinyl top is Rustoleum fine texture paint. I couldn't get a good picture of the vinyl top texture, but in person it looks really good, IMHO. I changed it to left hand drive, and tried to represent the genuine fake plastic wood grain on the dash. Thanks for looking!

I do like it! Very sharp!

Awesome model, beautiful paint, fantastic photos!

James and Andy, thanks for that link. Really interesting! That was a lot of power for a little engine, and a lot of races won. And the list of drivers, A. J. Foyt, Dan Gurney, Jimmy Clark, Parnelli Jones, Al and Bobby Unser. It looks like Mario was pretty much unbeatable in '66. Also, thanks Andy for the heads up on the Olsonite Eagle. I will put that and the Lotus Greg mentioned on my "look for" list. Yeah, Greg, sometimes what's old is what's new again.

Does any kit have the Ford DOHC engine? Not the SOHC "Cammer". I think this engine was used in Lotus F1/ Indy cars of the '60s. I would also be interested in some history on this engine. Thanks!
