  1. Does any kit have the Ford DOHC engine? Not the SOHC "Cammer". I think this engine was used in Lotus F1/ Indy cars of the '60s. I would also be interested in some history on this engine. Thanks!
  2. That's a great looking car! Fantastic workmanship. Nicely done!

    The V28

Rob, you've seen my "69 Corsair", so I won't junk up your thread with my photo. Agent G has a Mustang painted like a P 51 Mustang. It is really cool. Again, great work on this one!

    The V28

That is way cool! That Viper engine fits in there nice. Like the color scheme and the "Flying Tiger" license plate. If you wanna race, I've got one in Navy colors, and Agent G has one for the Air Corps.
  5. Beautiful work!
  6. That's awesome. He's obviously really into it, he's even holding his tongue right!
  7. Hey Gene, I think the stuff you're talking about is called "Shoe Goo". I've never used it on tires (just shoes), but if it will stick to the tires it should work well. It's really sticky and when dry looks a lot like the stuff they make model tires out of.
  8. I like it a lot! Nice job!
  9. I do the same thing with blocks of hard wood of various sizes and shapes. I have lots of scraps of solid surface material, I will have to give your idea a try. Thanks!
  10. Wow! I missed this the first time, sure glad it came up again. Absolutely amazing.
  11. Ira, it might not be legal to have as much fun as you do! This thing looks fantastic, as always.
  12. The main thing is to make your mold so that all the air can escape as you pour the resin in. If you follow the advice you have been given above, it should work well. But beware! Casting is fun and can become addictive!
  13. That's a beauty!
  14. Brad, here's a couple more tips about painting. I use enamel unthinned, although Testors aluminum is pretty thin already. I get complete coverage in one coat. If you get the right amount of paint on your brush, you can just touch near a lug nut and the paint will flow around the nut, but not over it. Same thing with the center hub and where the spokes meet the rim. Let the paint go, and stop, where it wants to, instead of trying to brush it in exactly the right spot. You won't have brush marks cause you're not really brushing. Hope that makes some sense.
  15. I just brush painted these with Testors enamel. It's a mixture of black and aluminum. If you just put the paint on and don't keep brushing it, you should not get brush marks. Hope that helps!
  16. Way cool. I like the black and white photo too, very appropriate.
  17. This old craftsman agrees. Buy the best tools you can afford, they're cheaper in the long run.
  18. You're right, it can be hard to get. My LHS had Ambroid, then Tenax, then Bondene, and now Ambroid again. FWIW, Ambroid is not the same as MEK. It is methylene chloride, and IMO is stronger and faster than MEK. I agree with Dale that Bondene is a good alternative.
  19. Strangely, no. I use Testors clear lacquer because it's in a bottle and ready for the A/B.
  20. I recently painted a body with decanted Duplicolor. My experience was somewhat different than yours, but maybe it will help. I sprayed it unthinned using a Badger 200. I sprayed from 2-3 inches away. The spray would not cover in one pass, so for the first coat I kept spraying all around the body until I built up a wet coat. I let that dry for a day or two, and wet sanded it. Since I had good coverage from the first coat, I just shot a quick wet coat for the second coat. The result was a nice smooth finish, with a flat sheen. I didn't sand that coat, since it is a metallic, and I have added one coat of clear. I have sanded the clear, and I hope one more coat of clear will finish it. I had minimal problems with texture, a very slight orange peel in the first coat, that sanded out easily. No texture in the second coat. I had no clogging issues, since I was spraying one coat and then cleaning the A/B. I can see how it might clog, tho, the stuff does dry very fast. I would suggest practicing spraying closer to the body. Shoot it wetter. This stuff dries so fast I think it would be difficult to make it run. I hope there is something helpful in all of that.
  21. Very nice work on all of them!
  22. Also take a look at Papilio sheets. Available in white and clear, 8-1/2" x 11" sheets, and reasonably priced.
