Tamiya Lexan Paints....
Mr. Can Am Garage replied to Len Geisler's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I guess it's time for my two cents on this. The owner of my LHS IS a modeler and he's the Tamiya lexan paints on styrene. He had no problems to speak of BUT he did use a good automotive grade primer between the plastic and the paint. I wish I could recall if he airbrushed it on or if it came straight from the rattle can. I'm thinking it was one of the bottled paints but I could be wrong. Anyway, I've seen the results of the experiment and it looked real nice. It did need a clear coat but that's to be expected. -
Neat! Wonder if we can convince Peterson to try that?

Help needed...31 Rolls Royce
Mr. Can Am Garage replied to Billy Kingsley's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The crankcase is the bottom half or third of the engine block Billy. -
In the showroom near the multiple award winning Packard. The cars were then moved to The Can Am Garage TV set. Jackson and Jack comparing notes about them. For those that didn't see the in-progress reports, this is Johan's kit and it's painted with Tamiya paints.

What do you drive?
Mr. Can Am Garage replied to gasman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
'00 Ford Focus wagon. CD silver, auto, pw, pl, pm, air, tilt, cruise. 106,000 kms (say 55,000 miles give or take). Just finished paying for it so I'm looking again. Looking for a '05-'07 Focus wagon similarly equipped. Gotta get one before Ford makes the wagons go away which happens with the '08's. -

Managed to get it done about 10 this morning. Show/contest registration ended at Noon so we made it in time. Unfortunately, it didn't place in it's category but my box stock Packard came home with a First Place in it's category. Go figure. More shots of the completed Cadillac for tomorrow. -

But of course. It's already there. I'm trying to decide if I should try tackling the dual set of windows for the passenger compartment. -

Who cares why it happened! Not me as I've got all 6! Paint schemes are set for the Italeri cars - Both are to be black. The other three are up in the air at this point. You want colourful? Wait till you see my Italeri RR. Thanks for the kind words one and all. -

Caught Jackson looking/drooling at it late last night. At this point, there's not much left except for the details. The plan is to have it finished by Noon tomorrow. -

The back end is finished. Time to put an end to it for now. -

When you last saw the Cadillac, there was excess BMF all over the place. Not any more. The boys "forgot" the side mount spares and the hood. Had to call 'em back in to work so I could get this photo. This is going to beautiful if I dare say so myself. -

Everything that the kit supplied for under the hood has been installed. Fun it wasn't painting the V16 wheel centers. Black with a red circle and then a gold V16 on top of that. -

It's getting close so long as you don't look at the details. Norbie should be happy when he sees the wheels done to his specifications. First time I've ever tried painting something this small. I need a smaller brush. -

The interior is in and the body has been glued on to the fenders. All it needs is the steering wheel and the wheel/tire combos to be drive-able. -
Making seats look like leather...

I just used this exact technique on my current vintage Cadillac project and it looks GREAT! No pics. tonight but I should have some for tomorrow. -

Thanks Andy. This is my second classic (the first being a Packard boattail) and it won't be my last. -

Anyway, the engine is in for keeps and the fenders are on. At a friend's suggestion, I had Jackson and the boys pull the wheels and BMF the outer parts of the rims. It looks 100% better but it was fiddly work. If you look through the cooling vents, you can just make out the massive V16. I am particularly proud of how the stone guard looks after a wash of Tamiya Smoke. Following another of a friend's suggestions, I wood grained the gauge cluster. -

The wheels are on but might come off to be further detailed. I've been working on the interior including trying my hand at some wood graining.
