Pretty tidy old build, Black Thunder issue kit probably. Aussie trucks run bull bars, not roo bars.

Another crazy ebay listing...

Pretty cool present for your dad, if they made one of one of our cars or something I liked I'd buy one for sure. -
How many of you participate in contests ?
checkmate replied to cobraman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
We (wife, kids and I)attend as many as we can both judged and NNL, I've done alright when it comes to winning stuff but the friendships we've made are the real prizes to us. I also run and organise the NSW NNL Titles so I sought of have to show up to it. -
Model Company Catalogs
checkmate replied to Erik Smith's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Years ago a guy down here named Jim Sonter put together 3 books called Old Model Car Advertisements which contain a heap of cool old catalogues. Interesting read if you can find them. -
Good story and I'm sure you'll do the build justice to honour your lost mate.

Thrift store score! What have you found?
checkmate replied to clovis's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
We've got a GoLo shop here that sells all sorts of wonderful cheap imported junk. Honestly most of it is BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH but they do have some cool stuff in there. I've found a heap of plastic tackle box style cases for $2, supergluex20 tubes $2 also and some really handy little clamps for holding engine blocks etc together for $2. -
Looking nice. Great start.

checkmate replied to schwack's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
A few years ago I walked into the local CAT dealer and asked them for some paint, you can buy it in various quantities and I bought a single pressure pack for around $13. -
Great looking truck, real credit to you mate.

Is there a model of a 1960 chevy panel truck?
checkmate replied to Rudy2013's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I think the Flintstone 60 and his 56 Ford sedan delivery both run chopped tops to allow for kit glass, that and they were probably based of the kits originally........either way it makes the conversions easier than trying to make a windscreen to fit. -
I was a mechanic/workshop foreman for over a decade, worked in the timber industry for awhile and have been working at a paper mill for the last 6 years as an operator.

Quick question about contest judging...
checkmate replied to Rick's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Great result, congrats on the award. I've judged quite a few times over the years and the things that still catch most people out are the basics, mould lines, seams and glue marks. -

I'll second that, was just thinking the same thing looking at the pics. -
Resin Bodies vs. Normal Plastic Bodies
checkmate replied to Newbs99's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Resin is generally a little harder to work with but there's a lot of variables also. I've found the resin the Jimmy Flintstone uses is more brittle and less forgiving than the resin Auslowe or I use, I only use Revell Contacta model glue to assemble my stuff and have never had the need to use superglue. When painted I usually give them a light sand and build up the coats of primer very thinly and gradually to avoid dramas. As mentioned one of the advantages of resin is it offers a heap of cool alternative body styles that can expand your collection. -
I don't know Mike driving on the wrong side of the road might get your heart racing a bit mate, depending on how busy the road is. As Scummy mentioned please don't judge all Aussie modelllers by the comments of one bitter individual, thankfully his other comment was removed. I love the history of the hobby and where it evolved from it's a pity things aren't as cheap and as simply as they were all those years ago. If things were that cheap still it might make it a bit cheaper and easier to collect old van kits.
