Questions for anyone familiar with CA smog laws
Rodent replied to Draggon's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
I don't understand the year wait, but at this point I think I would just go drive it around at steady speeds of 40+ for a few miles, and then some stop and go. Then take it in. Chryslers of that era don't seem to be particularly hard to complete all the monitors. In fact, pre-2000 you can have one incomplete monitor and still pass. I think the chances of you getting pulled over for expired tags is pretty slim given where you live. -

Was unseasonably cool today in northern California for this time of year. Had a bit of rain. Air was totally calm. Annoying neighbors' yappy dog seems to have disappeared, hopefully eaten by a coyote. Too cold for the other three neighbors' grandchildren to be screaming and thrashing in their pools. Got a new bar-height outdoor table to commerate 33 years together and 30 years in the house. Nice dinner of semi-homemade spaghetti, salad, and wine outside.

I will miss him greatly. He was always a voice of reason and intelligence on the forum.

Saturday night, a dear friend treated us to an amazing birthday dinner in my honor at her son's restaurant (the actual day was last Monday). Beef tartare, salad, and we ordered the chicken, the salmon, and the gnocci to split. Amazing bottle of champagne, and an amazing bottle of wine with dinner. Cheesecake for dessert. Then we went home in an Ecto-1 RAV4.

Scammer alert: texts used to drain bank accounts
Rodent replied to bobthehobbyguy's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
We have been banking with Chase for many years. I know what their texts look like. I received one recently when I transferred a significant amount of money to another bank. It was something like, Did you just transfer $xxx to blah blah account? Yes or No. That said, I hope folks pay attention to their email and texts and know which ones to ignore. -
What did you see on the road today?
Rodent replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Not only did I see it, I rode in it. Owner is part of a local Ghostbusters cosplay group, he also drives for Lyft. All that junk on the roof rattles a bit, and like most Toyotas the shocks had nearly zero rebound damping. -
AMT 1966 Ford Mustang GT Fastback 2+2 Kit
Rodent replied to Jim B's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
This kit should be bought and built as the timepiece it is. If you want to kitbash it with the '67, it can be done. The shock towers and underhood area is a bit different on the 1:1s, but most onlookers won't know that. -
AMT 1966 Ford Mustang GT Fastback 2+2 Kit
Rodent replied to Jim B's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Being inherently lazy, I think I would start with one of the Revellogram fastbacks if I was going down the SCCA route. As Rex pointed out, you would have to throw away most of the Round 2 kit to make an accurate B Production racer. -

Sorry. I thought "real" websites listed whether an item was in stock before allowing you to put it in your cart.

Hobbylinc is showing that it is available. https://www.hobbylinc.com/new-revell-germany-chrome-spray-hobby-and-model-acrylic-paint

I have had much the same great results with Spaz Stix directly over damaged kit chrome. I am curious to see how the Revell looks over black or something else that wasn't originally a chrome part.

That's what my neighbor said. He said it weas quite the show with the mobile repair and "supervisors" around. Must have been one heck of a spill with all that kitty litter. There are a couple of spots that I may add more to, if I still have any. About 20 feet to the right is a street drain that flows to the river less than a mile away, so things could have been much worse if it had let go at the neighbors' instead. Neighbor said that it appeared like they removed the line and plugged it off so she could get the truck back to the yard. Pic is of the type of lift they are using for residential now. They seem to spill less than the side-loaders they used before.

How about now? I normally download the photo from Google to my computer, then drag it into the post. I may not have done that last night.

Recycling truck blew up yesterday trying to lift our can. It was an in-office day for me, but I heard that it was quite the drama. Repair crew, POed driver, etc. About 2 hours total in front of the house. Quite an oil drip line around the corner until this happened. These trucks were new not long ago, but I guess they aren't anymore.
