What Tools Should I Get?
Rodent replied to oldcarfan's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Don't buy too much. As soon as the replacements start arriving, you will find the old ones. -
Bill seems to have returned from his hiatus.

Megaldon and Scooby Doo! had a "thermal event" today when the trailer they were in caught fire on U.S. Highway 50 in Sacramento.

The "A" would signify that it fits the full-size cars too. If it was Mustang-exclusive, it would be "D1ZE". Ford seemed to use the "most senior" vehicle for their part numbers.

What did you see on the road today?
Rodent replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Not today, but last Saturday. Lakeville Highway near Sonoma/Sears Point Raceway. RAM TRX and a Corvette racing, crossing double yellows, etc. No, I didn't get out my phone to snap a pic, this is a screenshot from the dashcam video. -
Thritto? And building models for about 11 years at that point. I don't remember if Target had landed here yet or not. They took over the old Gemco locations, but I don't remember exactly when.

If the power is out at the gas station, you won't be getting gas either.

When mine first started popping, I contacted them via e-mail. they were willing to send more (defective) cans, but is was case lots of the colors they still had available at the time. I passed.

I have thrown away maybe $200 of the lacquer over the last few years. I was buying discontinued colors at the LHS just to have it in stock. They are on my "list" for sure. Except for Dullcoat, they have lost me as a customer for the rest of my life.

Wow, nice! As a 19 year old import auto parts employee, I sold about $1000 (in 1979 dollars) in engine parts to someone who was trying to rebuild a gullwing engine after an ill-fated trip to Tahoe that resulted in overheating and a blown head gasket. -

Bill, this looks great. If you can get past "life", I really hope you can reboot Rookie Resins. You had so much cool stuff! -

I have been in Sonoma County, CA all week, and we ventured down to Marin County today. Sightings have been much poorer than usual. Some Jeep dealer must be having a BOGO special on Grand Wagoneers, because they seem to be the "cool" $100k SUV now. Take that, Land Rover! Coolest thing I have seen was today in Point Reyes Station. A tan early '80s Toyota Starlet with a surfboard rack and board on the roof. No pics, the sketchy-looking owner was nearby. On the same street, was a nicely preserved Westfalia Vanagon Syncro. No pics either. -
There is a pair of Ford dealerships owned by the same people near me, and one is a "commercial center (centre)". Oddly, they have about white 15 Mach-Es in the front. I guess someone ordered them for a fleet, but they seem kind of expensive for a government purchase. Local WalMart has an eTransit delivery vehicle, but it is unclear where they charge it unless it is behind the building. The reserved parking spot it lives in when not being used does not have a charger.

Supply chain issues totaled a lot of cars. Insurance companies didn't want to wait for parts to come off of back order, especially electronic items like ADAS components, airbag parts, etc. Pay off the client, then they are on their own to find another car, and the old car goes to auction and becomes someone else's problem. I am on an industry forum, and many of the questions are about programming used modules because new ones are still not available from the manufacturers in many cases, or the wait is weeks. Also, high and extra high-strength steel is commonly used now and it typically can't be straightened. We had a drivable car totaled in 2018 because the driver's side front rail had a slight bend in it. Ford did not allow sectioning of that rail, so it added $10k to the estimate to replace, necessitating engine/trans removal. The pyrotechnic seatbelt and knee airbag deployed, but none of the others.

What did you see on the road today?
Rodent replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yes, it looks like a US Dart GT with a Signet front clip. I was wondering if this was another Plodge or if someone built it. -

I can't say anything too specific because my employer and our parent company do not allow us to speak as representatives of the company, but..... we are a licensee of, I don't remember, 34? OEMs worldwide. We don't sell things you can hold in your hand, and I don't know if licensing for models, hats, blankets, and other stuff is all handled through the same people. The amount of money we pay to some of the OEMs is shocking. Most of the North American OEMs are represented by a third party. I don't know if the same company licenses Dodge Charger Diaper Bags, and if they do, if it is the same staff that does it. I would be interested in hearing from Steve G how their licenses are negotiated at Round2. Some OEMs are cool to deal with. Some OEMs ignore email from our two representatives for months. Some of our contracts have been expired for a while, and the OEMs are (seemingly) OK with ignoring that and taking our money. One is OK with forgetting to invoice us, but not delivering what was agreed to. TL:DR version: OEMs aren't necessarily an adversary, but it has to pencil out if it is worth the license fee for the amount of revenue that can be generated by the license. -

I will be in Sonoma County next week. It is always interesting to see what is driving around up there. -
I ordered mine from Burbank's for quite a while before I subscribed. I would always rationalize it by buying a kit or two to cover the shipping of the magazine. I said it, I accept my weakness. Have two LHS here. Management of one I think are functional illiterates that look at you like you suddenly grew a second head when you ask about MCM, and the other one is mostly military and games. Used to get the "old" MCM at Barnes and Noble.

Mustang wagon did exist...
Rodent replied to BlackSheep214's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Interested to see what this car had for a fuel tank. Maybe moved into the quarter panel like the other Ford wagons? There is no way that it could exist in the stock location with this fuel filler door. -
I have several friends your age. I always tell them, "Next year, no more 69". Model on, glad you made it through your health issues. I have basically none at 63 and I am grateful for that. Maybe because Mom made me use NoTox instead of glue that could be sniffed.... My models fell apart, but I am still here and still love the smell of lemon.
