  1. I like to spray plastic tires flat black, then dry-brush Testors or Tamiya "rubber" over the black. A little nose slime when they are dry for sheen, and they kinda look like rubber.
  2. I have a George Carlin station on Pandora. I really think his older stuff was a lot funnier. "Frisbeetarianism is the belief that when you die, your soul goes up on the roof and gets stuck." And don't forget Fillmore.
  3. Bought a CHP gauge cluster from a wrecking yard and swapped in the 140 mph speedo. Took a bit of space, but I managed to pin it coming down the hill eastbound 46 coming into the Cholame area where James Dean was killed coming the other direction. Was quite a rush. The Fox cars were kind of uh... special until 82-85 when there was interest in "power" and "handling" for the first time in a while. Absolutely not saying that they were great cars overall, but I managed to have a good experience with mine. We have had one Nissan, a 1995 Altima. No money spent on anything other than maintenance items until around 100k. Then everything broke loose. Alternator. Parking brake handle. A/C compressor clutch. Things I have forgotten. At around 138k the top tank of the radiator detached itself at 65 mph on the freeway. By the time the spousal unit was able to pull over, the engine was toast from running with no coolant. Not a brand fan. We have had many different cars between us and during our 31 year relationship. Ford. VW. Nissan. Mazda. GMC. Chevrolet. Toyota. Subaru. BMW. We just get whatever suits the need at the time.
  4. Um, yeah.... The Citation wasn't a 4-door coupe. Both the three and five door versions were hatchbacks. Plus the 2-door notch you pictured. The cars themselves were complete POSs. I went looking for a new high output X-11 and was repulsed by the build quality. I wound up with a Fox 5.0 Mustang as my first new car. Say what you want, but it had a series of minor issues when new, and I sold it at 186,xxx miles. Everything worked. The intake had been off, but the heads and oil pan never had. Oh, it was a hatchback. There are still three huge redwood trees in our yard that made the trip home in that hatch as 6-footers. I will crawl away and cry now that 'Murica (and much of the world) is no longer interested in small-ish practical cars that can handle an occasional trip to Home Depot or Lowe's, 4-5 reasonably sized passengers, and still be fun in the twisties (with a manual transmission).
  5. Yeah. ??? here too. I have never attempted to re-hone an X-Acto blade, but I do the same thing that others have said. The "new" blade(s) are marked with blue painter's tape on the handle and are used for BMF or trimming Tamiya tape for masking. The others live on to shape styrene until trash time.
  6. LOL. I am getting pretty good with masking them off with Tamiya tape so they can be sprayed whatever metallic finish you choose for steel gas tanks.
  7. In the US, there is a bed size called Twin XL. It's 38" x 80". I think they are typically used in college dorm rooms. (You did say you were looking for a single bed).
  8. Hm if you have a newer android you can use Google lens and take a pic of it and it will tell you what it is If you are on a computer or tablet using Chrome you can do the same thing by right-clicking on the image and searching Google for the image. It seems to come up with Sedum all right.
  9. Her late husband named him Patrick. Everyone giggled at that name because it is the maiden name of my neighbor. Vet #1 told her he was 4 and was in good health. Vet #2 said he was probably 8 and had long standing issues with his knees. Overall, she spent around $8k on him for various surgeries. He weighed about 70 pounds and I think my neighbor weighs around 90 lbs. He was a sweet dog, but always wanted to run to other dogs (to play) and hated squirrels. Bad. I was working in the yard one evening when they were going for a walk and he bolted to go sniff another dog. Neighbor did a face plant into the sidewalk. I grabbed and scolded Patrick. She had some serious sidewalk rash from her face plant, and a black eye. His nickname was "The Ambassador of xxxxxx Court" because everyone loved him. Most of the dogs around here that are in a shelter seem to be more damaged than most. Lots of Pits and very elderly dogs. They all have "issues" with other dogs, children, etc. I am not a dog person, but Ben is very lucky to have found you as a forever home.
  10. I have known many dogs over the years that had been abused/mistreated. They always turn out to be the coolest dogs once they find their "forever" homes. My neighbor brought home a mixed breed that she found at the river. He had a belt for a collar and leash. She figured that he had been with a homeless person. She never did find the owner, so she kept him. He had some medical issues, so he wasn't around for too long, but he was nicknamed "The Ambassador" of our culdesac. I think she had him for about 4 years. He saw her through her husband's suicide.
  11. Another old guy repeating a story, but y'all are all old guys too. Our across the street neighbor seriously screwed up his back in 1969 and he asked my dad if he could hire me to mow and edge his lawn. Dad said OK, and my price was set at $2. I was excited because kits were $2 and with my allowance I would have money for sales tax and paint. This arrangement went on for a while, but MPC raised their price to $2.25. My dad told me that I needed to adjust my prices for lawn care, and I had "the talk" with Ralph. I was scared but he agreed to pay the new price and agreed again when MPC's price went to $2.50. Rest your soul Ralph. I learned about work ethic and inflation while being your gardener. And I bought a new kit almost every Saturday thanks to you. Also thanks to life in California where I mowed Ralph's yard from early March to late October.
  12. Yes, they are attractive cars. I never bought this kit during all of its earlier Lindberg iterations, but I got one with this box art when HL discontinued the coupon and had all kits at 40% off for the first time. Not sure when it will be unwrapped, but it is sealed in the stash.
  13. I had one of these in the stash for quite a while, but I "re-homed" all of my Ferrari kits a few years ago when they went up in value. It's a really nice kit and I kinda wish I still had it.
  14. And PLEASE stop trying to be the last post on the subject. Please let the thread die. If you don't like the feature, ignore it and don't use it.
  15. Was at WalMart yesterday and saw a halfway decent '70 Swinger driving around the parking lot. Non-factory green, tannish-brown interior, peeling vinyl roof. From its flatulent exhaust note, it was a slanty.
  16. mooning Uncle Joe
  17. LOL, my friend Dave has 5 1/2 1956 Fords. Two Fairlane town sedans, a Victoria, a Crown Victoria, a convertible under restoration, and a convertible parts car.
  18. The Hooterville Cannonball
  19. Not irked, but disappointed in humanity. Was at America's Tire (Discount Tire for some of you) this afternoon getting tires for the spousal unit's Focus. A very tiny older woman walked up behind me to pick up her car and she said that she was picking up her Toyota. Then she asked if that is what it was. All she knew is that it was a Prius but wasn't sure if it was a Toyota or not. She said it was silver.
  20. Yeah, that was kinda my point above. It was more than just moving the steering box. The front track was slightly wider and the handling and braking was vastly improved as they tried to build "4-door Z/28s" for the police car market. It was time to leave the '67 Camaro/'68 Nova front suspension setup behind. It's too bad that they didn't have any horsepower, although the 305 and 350 4-barrels held their own for the time.
