I Drove a Maserati Yesterday
cartpix replied to cartpix's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'm a G-Force guy. Acceleration, braking, & cornering. Terminal speed is over rated, mostly bragging rights. Anything over 80, looks pretty much the same but the dangerous stuff happens much faster. -

I live in L.A., I have a hard time getting up to the speed limit, on the freeway, most of the time. -

I would like to take it on some twisties, though. My Mini turbocharged, with the handling package. I kept up with a Porsche, on Sunset, one night. We both had left an AMG Mercedes, behind us. -

There is a big difference between a Librarian's salary & a Psychologist. She also traded in a 600 Mercedes & she's leasing it. -

Nope, it's hers. She says really weird things, about it. Like, "it's just a car". Just weird. -

She also flips houses, on the side. I don't think so. I think she plays, on the "other team", if you know what I mean. -
Yesterday, I got to drive a Maserati Granturismo convertible. Words can't describe it, but I'll try. First I walked up to the white beauty & pushed the unlock button, on the "switch blade" key fob. I squeezed the carbon fiber door handle & opened the door. I was immediately overcome, with the smell of the red, glove leather interior. I slipped the laser cut key, into the ignition, gave it a twist, & was pleasured, by the cacophony of to powerful, Italian V8. I pushed the sport button, as directed by the owner, & took it out of the parking lot. I drove it, for several blocks & was able to press hard, on the loud pedal, a couple of times. Needless to say, it moved. I was too busy watching out for the "men in blue", to look for the traction control button. I would really like to see how far it would lay down 2 black, smokey stripes, on the blacktop. Maybe next time. When you pull the left shift paddle, it blips the throttle, on downshifts. Too cool. I wanted to keep on driving but I had to take it back, before she started thinking, I had stolen her 2 day old, brand new car. Oh yeah, it is owned by a woman. A woman I hardly know. She's a school site psychologist, at the school district, I work at. She saw me, pull into the district office parking lot, & was smitten with my Mini. She wanted to swap cars but I wasn't interested in her Mercedes. She told me,yesterday, she traded in the Benz & held up the key fob. I saw the trademark trident & said, you got a Maserati? She said, "yeah, take it around the block". She also has a '64 Studebaker Lark...

So why has the price of model kits gone up?
cartpix replied to greymack's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I took my daughter to my LHS, to buy me a kit, for Father's Day. The kits were about a buck more, since last Father's Day. -
A young Tim Boyd!?
cartpix replied to unclescott58's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I noticed, on the masthead, of the early issues, one of the publishers is Oscar Koveleski (who I met a few years ago), owner of Auto World. -

unclescott58, thanks for turning me on to Model Encyclopedia. Car Model, was my first magazine subscription. I was bummed out, when the mag went under. I remember Tim's builds, but didn't know it was him. What I do remember is Ira Dahm's articles. -
It's beyond words. I agree with all that's been said & then some. Beautiful. Nice dogs, too.

This is just ridiculous!
cartpix replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
They even did it with the Mini S but I think they did it with the real engine sound. Luckily, they stopped doing it, before I got mine. -
I'm going to say, model

1990 lx mustang street car finished! 8/1/14
cartpix replied to Dragfreak's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
It only looks small because model manufacturers have always made them huge. Probably has to do with not being able to inject them well (short shots) or warping. They seem to have gotten better at them. Kits from the 60's & 70's had optional roll bars, that looked like sewer pipe. -

My bad. This is what happens when an old guy, like me, goes up against a young guy, who knows his math. Of course, I meant the .080 rod. Boy is my face red. When I was 15, i couldn't build as well as you. You've got talent. Don't quit building, like a lot of us did, when we were your age. -
How about Prestone, as a sponsor, because that is antifreeze green. All kidding aside, nice job on the paint. It's got a great shine, to it. The rest of it, looks very nice, too.

It looks great, so far. It will look awesome, in red. As for the stance, I like seeing some ground clearance, under this type of car. It would have some suspension travel, compared to about none, with a racing front strut suspension. This one won't crush the headers or rip holes, in the oil pan. The cage tubes are a little large. A .040 diameter, works out to 2". I use .060, that works out to 1.5". That's closer to the 1 5/8" tubing, for an NHRA spec cage. But you know how I am, about things being too big, in scale. -
I love it.
