Hardcastle and McCormick coyote = GT40?
cartpix replied to turbo nova's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
This thread got me thinking about the same thing. I did a Google Image search & saved a bunch of pix. It looks like quite a bit of work. It would need to be widened, the top would have to be raised, filled & re-contoured. The front of the rear section needs to be straightened out, to be 90 degrees, to the ground. The easiest part, believe it or not, would be the new chassis. It's a flat bottom monocoque with curved up sides. It looks like it's the same width, front to back. There are plenty of images of the m6a & b chassis (the GT was based on the m6b Can Am chassis), on the net, as reference for the front & rear suspension from. Tires can be sourced from the MPC IndyCar kits (Gurney Eagle & Lotus STP Turbine), that were reissued awhile back. The wheels from those kits are a good place to start, to scratch build the McLaren wheels. All the glass would have to be scratch built. A new interior would be needed & a small block Chevy with Hewland trans axle. Not quite a cake walk but do-able. All I'm missing is the H&M kit & courage to attempt it. I think I can find both of those fairly easily. Jeff -
Beautiful work. I especially like the grime, on the underside of the fenders. It's a great touch. Jeff

Very well done. Very realistic. The weathering is also a consistent level overall. The broken alternator belt is a great touch. It give you a chance to show the paint worn off the pulley grooves. I missed it, too, until dub pointed it out. The best thing I can say about any model is, it looks real, and it does. Jeff

It looks like, with some work (a lot of work), you could build a McClaren MK. 6 GT, from a H&C kit. Has anyone tried? -

It will be unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show in January. Jeff -
What about the up & coming kids? ....Junior Dragster
cartpix replied to rel14's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Sorry for really hijacking the thread, Randy. The least I should have done, was commented on you great scratch building or commended you for tackling a subject, I've never seen, in scale. Thanks for the answers about ETs & speed. 7.90s @ 85 is pretty stout for kids & teenagers. Throw a shift in there & leg it out to the 1/4, they'd be in the 12s. I'd say those little motors are putting out a bit more than 5HP. Jeff -

Just out of curiosity, what kind of times does a Jr. Dragster do, in the 1/4 mile. Jeff -
Fantastic!!! That will make a great companion, for your '56. The weathering, especially the frame, is outstanding. Jeff

I was blowing out an interior, of a finished model, & some of the liquid shot out. It fogged the windshield, badly. I was able to fix it, with Future. If you hold the can upside down & spray, the liquid should come out (I was spraying right side up, btw). It comes out pretty fast, so it's hard to control. Give it a shot (pun intended) & let us know, how it works out. Jeff

Never thought it would happen!

A big thumbs up, Jason. It's not easy to be the quick car & wait. It takes a cool head & you pulled it off. All that hard work paid off. I'm impressed. Jeff -
If that is true, I stand corrected. I don't follow Sprint Cars much (there isn't much TV coverage & Ascot closed over 20 years ago) & was just guessing at the speed, from other forms of the sport. Thanks for pointing that out, Danno. From what I do know about Sprints is, they go better than they stop. They have no clutch or conventional transmission. Just an in & out box. If you lock up the rear wheels, the engine stops. Jeff

At every photographers meeting, at every track, I shot, there was one hard, fast rule, Do not, under any circumstances, set foot, on a hot track. It isn't a good idea to go out, on a cold track, as there are still safety cars & equipment, on the track. As for Stewart's incident, it was much darker, than it looked, Sprint cars are hard to see out of, in the best of conditions, & he was going about 60 MPH. It's like going down a poorly lit road, at 60, & someone walks out, in front of you. Jeff

A young Tim Boyd!?
cartpix replied to unclescott58's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thank you for letting me/ us know this, since the museum website isn't very up to date. There is no link to the new category or any HOF honorees, listed past 2010. -

What ever became of Richard Carroll? He was who the Pro category was started around, at the ICMA model contests, in the early 70's. He isn't in the International Model Car Builders Museum, Hall of Fame. IMO, he's more deserving a spot, than many who are. -
Be careful with canned air. If any of the liquid gets on clear plastic parts, it will fog them, a lot like CA glue does. I fogged a windshield, recently, blowing off a dashboard but I was able to fix it with some future, on a Q-Tip.

Digital version of model cars magazine
cartpix replied to N~8~Ball's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I get a few mags, in digital form. I like it. I have less clutter, around the house & I can reference them easier. -
Basic building skills tutorial - value added?
cartpix replied to Jantrix's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I like the idea. I would read it to see if there's an easier way to do things or something I didn't know at all. I like Harry's idea about pinning & locking it, too.
