  1. Looks great Brett. Are those the kit decals? They don't appear to have any bleedthrough, which is great.
  2. Updates look great Joe. That body shot looks impressive.
  3. Here is some added history so you can be aware of the possibilities. Dave Strickler ran a 65 4-speed car with short stacks and a full hood scoop. In fact, the restored car that sits in the Chrysler museum is set up like this. The Pandemonium 65 ran short stacks and a full scoop at one time. The original Mr. Norm's 65, two-tone blue car, was purchased from Roger Lindamood and first run as a 4-speed, short stack with full scoop. A short time thereafter they switched over to the full blown version that most people remember. The Golden Commandos ran a short stack car with full hood scoop. And a few others ran this same combination at one time or another. That being said, it didn't take long for most teams to realize that they weren't getting enough air into the stacks with the full scoop so they either left the scoop and cut an opening for air flow, removed the scoop outright or switched to an automatic setup and went with the tall stacks and either left the scoop in place with an opening for the stacks or removed the scoop alltogether. There are plenty of different looks that you can go with. For the sake of accuracy it all depends on whether or not you have the correct research material to support the build that you choose to do. Or, because it's model building, you build how you want regardless of whether or not it's an accurate depiction of what really existed.
  4. Very nice job. I would also be interested in a set of those decals.
  5. I didn't see this mentioned yet but one of the biggest issues from the original release, in an otherwise superbly detailed kit, was the fact that the front tire and wheel combination, if built stock from the kit, was not centered in the wheelwell. The builder would have to cut the pins from the spindles and relocate to center the tires. Has this been corrected on this latest issue or is it still a problem?
  6. Folks need to slow down for a moment and re-read the rules and understand what this contest is based on. This contest is designed to try and spark added interest in the hobby of building models, especially for those that don't already build. Secondly, it's designed to add profit margin to Revell's bottomline. The available kit list is based on current released models that fit into the categories that they have created. They are not excluding anyone by not providing a more exciting list (if that is your complaint). They are not going to include older released kits because they are not readily accessible on mass market shelves. As well, according to the rules, you cannot go to your "stash" and pull out a model for entry. It is designed for the entrant to go out and purchase a model that is listed, during the time period notated. That way it keeps the competition on a somewhat level playing field and eliminates the builder that would simply photograph a model that they have already built (not that anyone here would do that). It also creates a marketing opportunity to increase profitability, as I already mentioned above. And I fit into the slightly frustrated category as I saw the list and decided that I could build the Viper ACR kit that I just picked up last week. But to do so honestly I have to go out and purchase it again, during the timetable listed. So, people can voice their displeasure over the listed models all they want. This is most likely why the list is what it is. And as many folks that are not happy with it there are probably just as many that are happy with it.
  7. Remember that some of the setups back then were cars with full hood scoops but still an injected combination only using shorter stacks. And then some were also carburated.
  8. The Lincoln is a fine kit to join on in with.
  9. Here is what I have gotten accomplished so far. I have been playing with the hood design and even though this is what I was looking for I'm not happy with the overall profile. I still have more work to do to get it where I want it. I am going to drop the sides of the cowl scoop section down as they came out too high. The sides will also go back further towards the windshield area.
  10. That rearend assembly looks great Tyrone.
  11. Steve, you obviously have quite a few pro street subjects to choose from and are worthy of jumping in here. However, remember the 25% rule in regards to whichever subject you choose to go with. Or multiple builds for that matter. If you have something mocked up but haven't gone much further than that then you are good to go. Anything that already has a significant amount of paint and/or engine detailing, such as wiring and plumbing is probably too far along.
  12. Very nice indeed.
  13. Here is a good bit of information to any perspective person thinking about entering this year. And let me say that what I'm about to say is in no way a slam against any prior winner as they built and entered deserving entries. I had extensive conversations with two of the judges from last years contest and even though they received plenty of entries from many quality builders they were limited to their judging ability based on the quality of the photos submitted. Their biggest frustration was that many entries were submitted using any one of a number of smart phones to photograph the entry. A lot of the photos were of subpar quality and automatically discounted the entry from contention due to lack of clarity in the image. So, for the future contests it is not only a requirement to submit your best entry possible but to also have the best images as well for the sake of the judges being able to analyze your work fairly and consistently.
  14. That's an impressive build with a typical Donn Yost stellar finish.
  15. There seems to be a common thread here.
  16. Al you still have a ways to go to create a finished model so your good to go with that one.
  17. I'm surprised that Alan from Whoopiekat hasn't chimed in here yet. Tye, your project is looking good. And you are correct, Whoopiekat Decals are very good to work with. However, a word of advice is probably in order for anyone looking at this and wanting to do the same build. Numerous decals designed by the original owner of Whoopiekat scaled certain designs to fit on specific bodies. Like the decal you see used here, it was designed to fit on the Johan Challenger body, which is a longer wheelbase model. And with the very nice lace patterns on some of these cars it almost makes it impossible to cut the decal down to make it fit the wheelbase of an AMT Challenger, which is why this decal appears to be just a bit long for the body. It still works but conforms better to the Johan body. The same issue is in effect for the Cougar body from Johan and AMT.
  18. Here's the link to my album showing all current available scoops that I cast in resin. If you see something send me a pm and we can take care of it offline. http://public.fotki.com/1320wayne/holeshot-resins/scoops/
  19. Looks like your making some really nice progress.
  20. Yeah Soren, your progress is coming along nicely but Eelco is correct. Pro Street cars must be street legal which means treaded rear tires. I failed to mention that in the criteria listed in the initial post. Hopefully that small detail doesn't throw a curveball in your plans.
  21. The modern GTO loks good as a race car/pro street. Welcome aboard.
  22. Here is a link to the pics. from yesterdays FAST meeting in Ocala, FL. Another meeting with great attendance and great looking builds. 50 Olds kits were available for club members to pick up for the next club build. Fattkid had a great looking painted Nomad body that had to be seen in person to really appreciate it. And it was even better outside after the meeting in the sunshine. I convinced Stan to bring some of his older builds including the old Pink Panther show car kit. He did an excellent job at building this difficult kit years ago. A great time was had by all. http://public.fotki.com/1320wayne/fast-club-meetings/january-2013-fast-m/
  23. O.K., I know that this kits discussion got pushed aside pretty fast and was never re-visited but since I just picked one of these up yesterday I figured I would elaborate on what I see and what I planned to do with this, which is why I picked it up. First, to answer a couple of unanswered questions, the kit not only comes with the larger tires and wheels for the Foose edition it is a straight reissue with all of the stock parts, including stock tires and wheels. Everything about the kit, other than the Foose tires and wheels and decals are the same from whatever the last issue of this kit was. Now, my intentions for buying this kit was not to see how close it would resemble the actual car, as the box art doesn't even resemble the real car that was built. My goal is to see how close I could come to replicating the artwork. I am just showing the quick work that I have done so far, that way folks can see the possibilities. I won't be getting to a full build on this one for a bit and whenI do I will showcase everything done in the works in progress section. So what I have done so far, just to see how it would look, is the perform a mild top chop by removing the wing window trim, making small pie cuts along the bottom of the A-pillars and C-pillars and then cutting the roof, straight across, just a short distance back from the top of the windshield line. Then I was able to lay the A-pillars back, lean the C-pillars forward and reattach the roof after cutting away a small amount of material. This gives the roofline a more aerodynamic appearrance that more closely matches the artwork. To get the true feel for the artwork it also appears the side profile would need to be stretched either forward or backward. I'm not going that far. The next thing was to cut away the engine bay wheelwells in order to move the tires further up inside the fenderwells. I was precise about the cuts on the engine bay so as not to damage it in any way as I will be making adjustments to these parts and reattaching them at a later date. At this point the tires and wheels are merely mocked up and taped into position for the look that I am after. Let me know what you think.
  24. Very nicely done. The color scheme looks great and the detail is very clean.
