I have no horse in this race, and I really don't care... but with the turn of events... isn't life interesting? Ya never know what will happen next. And ya know.. the family can take Stewart to civil court, and I wouldn't be surprised if the fact that he was stoned becomes inadmissible!

GM is at it again!
Tom Geiger replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Sometimes it's just the disconnects in a large company. I'm in a seminar this week and the instructor related a story... A manufacturer of engines rewarded employees for cost cutting suggestions. A worker submitted a suggestion that they replace a stainless steal throttle spring with a common spring and that showed a cost savings of $15,000 a year. The suggestion was celebrated and the fellow received 10%, a check for $1500, for his efforts. In a short time, boats using this engine started crashing into docks. What they hadn't considered was that this spring was used in marine applications, and with salt exposure, the common spring turned to powder in a short time... thus the original thinking of using the stainless spring! When the spring failed, the engine accelerated. The fail was that production had implemented the change without a full engineering review. Had the design engineers been asked to comment, one of them would have objected! That's how stuff happens in corporations... -

Hope things are looking better for your wife and you! And I hope that this build brought a little solace and break for you! -
Lindberg did a bunch of 1/32 scale cars that no other model manufacturer ever did. If you haven't seen them in person, I'll caution you that the interiors are a bit generic, and some are a bit out of scale. Otherwise, with some detailing they do build up nice.

About as much as your post Nick. Only mine had a picture and was more entertaining.

Something wrong with me?

Or make the lease payments. As in yes, I know what a 3 year old Mustang looks like. I saw one on a used car lot, they even let me drive it! -
I answered the original question, Do I think Moebius would do one, and my answer was "no"... Would I rule a Checker kit out all together? No, not with the things that have been happening lately. We've been getting new subject matter we never thought possible. So... in my mind how would this become a kit? I can see Round 2 doing it as an AMT kit. Curbside would be fine since there's nothing all that interesting under the hood. Since they have a thing for doing TV and Movie tie ins, I can see a box with Taxi tv show artwork. A snapper shot in multiple colors would work. That would allow all the non modelers who would buy this at TV and Movie Memorabilia shows to pop one together for their collection shelf. And of course I'd buy one or two to create my own light commercial varieties. Guys would open the hood and add all kinds of big engines and such. Life would be good. My peeve with Checkers in movies... the movie is supposed to be say 1958, 1966 etc... and a Checker cab pulls up with side lights and big bumpers! Argh! Get the Checker right for your movie era!

What did you see on the road today?
Tom Geiger replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Easiest way for a novice is to email it to yourself. Look at the picture on the screen, (I'm on an Iphone) in the lower left corner there's a rectangle with an arrow coming out the top of it, click on that... that takes you to a page with "send" options. Select email, then just email it to yourself. -
This week I'm in love with the T Fruit Truck kit! The box says you can build two complete cars from the box, one stock and one custom. Truth is that this is one cool box of parts. After you build two, you have a good start for a parts box! There are at least 4 body variations in the box. I need at least two of this kit to build the models now stuck in my head. And I can see why kids had a ball in the 1960s!

The Lindberg 1/32s of cars that weren't done in 1/25 scale such as the Chrysler Cordoba / Dodge Charger and Ford Granada / Mercury Monarch cars are sought after by a bunch of us, but not by the majority of modelers. Thus, they may be hard to find but when they are found the prices aren't all that expensive. There are more mainstream models that go for many hundreds.

Fantastic project and results! It was fun being along for the ride. When we don't comment don't assume we're not following and interested! -
The way jury selection goes... and I've been on jury duty and watched several selections..... First pass they'll eliminate all potential jurors who know or know of either party. Second pass they'll eliminate anyone who has participated in auto racing Third pass they'll eliminate anyone who watches auto racing Fourth pass they'll eliminate anyone who has driven a car Fifth pass they'll eliminate anyone who has ever heard of or ridden in a car At that point they'll have a jury with blank minds so they can weave the story any way they way. The prosecutor is generally looking for impartial jurors. The defense is looking for people they can sway.

Going back three pages... can't believe nobody has gotten this one!

Not looking for any more plates.. I've bought ones I was looking for on eBay. I grabbed up a bunch of island plates to hang in the Tiki Bar I was hoping to build in my pool shed. Haven't gotten to that project just yet, but in Pennsylvania, a one plate state, it's okay to display anything up front, even old plates as long as the style is no longer current. So I slapped a US Virgin Islands plate on the front of my Geo Tracker. The "J" signifies St John, the smallest island.

What movies do you watch over and over?
Tom Geiger replied to sjordan2's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Back when cable was new in the US, both my parents and my inlaws got it before we did. It seemed every time I'd go to either house and turn on the TV, the movie "10" was on! They must've shown that day and night for years! Me? I don't really get to watch movies often. In fact our main TV in the den isn't even connected to a DVD or VHS machine. My wife usually has command of that TV with rubbish shows like Dancing With The Stars and The Bachelor on ... I can hear Long Island Medium playing in the next room right now! But to name one... "It's a Wonderful Life". My older daughter and I always sit down together to watch this one around Christmas time. My wife and younger daughter don't get it! One year I heard that they were playing it in an old restored 1920s movie theater and I thought it would be a treat for the family to see the movie like it was originally shown. The two whiners ruined that trip! -
Been there, done that... awful repairs in awful weather. Now that I'm older I just call AAA for a tow to my favorite shop!

I don't see Moebius doing the Checker because their MO is kitting cars that they can get multiple stock and race versions from. There are more than six variations of the Hudson for instance. Checker has no race history! I had the R&R resin Checker, and there are a few diecast but the best one out there was the Danbury Mint (or was it Franklin?) one. Same situation as the Divco milk truck. Once I saw how well Danbury executed it, I knew I wasn't doing anywhere near it with the Ron Cash resin body, so I ditched that and got myself one of the diecast.

Knew it. That was one those songs I hated because it would get stuck in my head!

I made the long trip back to New Jersey to attend a meeting of the Jersey Shore Model Car Club. Actually I was working in NJ on Friday so I had already snuck across the state border. The funny part is that we rarely go to the office on Friday, normally working from home. This Friday we had some things to do together so my boss and I went in. We finished our task by lunch and he said that we should go home and take the rest of the day off! What the heck, I had things to do in the office so I worked the rest of the day. So I went to the meeting from there and picked up some goodies.... The first two items I got are the AMT Parts Pack Model T Roadster Racing Body kit and the '25 T Fruit Wagon kit. These are awesome and a really cool reminder of how modeling was in the old days. The Fruit Wagon kit has enough parts to build TWO complete models. It is just a parts box of cool possibilities. You can build the Fruit Wagon, a roadster pickup, a C cab pickup, a turtle back roadster and a shortened pickup bed roadster. Then you can take that Roadster Racing Body kit and put it on one of these chassis as well. I will need a second one of these kits to build all the varieties I have in my head! I'm gonna build like a 12 year old! On a sad note, the above stock 1955 Ford Ranch Wagon was built by Todd McWilliams, a friend who passed away last year. A local dealer bought his collection, and was true to his word to see that I got this wagon. Todd and I had talked a lot, in person and in emails, back and forth about the decisions he made on this model. This was the Poseys? diecast custom wagon that he stripped down and redid stock. He even made all the decal logos. Very simple and clean build that I am honored to have on my shelf in memory of a friend! And the final new piece also came from Todd's collection.. A funny story. Todd had lived in various places around the country and was always active in clubs, so a lot of guys knew him. I met him through the old AOL model car chats, and then through message boards. We hit it off and often emailed. Then he told me he was moving to NJ. His wife was from the town adjacent to where I was living at the time. The year he moved, I came into a case of the '53 International van diecasts in NAPA colors. He laughed and said he had a case of the International Metro vans from NAPA. Neither of us had the other, so we made plans to get together for a swap. I mentioned that I was getting tires on my van at a local tire place, and he said he'd come there and keep me company. So that's where we finally met face to face. Adding to this as we sat there, Dave Cura from the Tri-State club walked in, getting tires on his Durango. So we had a bit of a model meeting right there! Great memory! So I bought a second one of these from his collection.

Something wrong with me?
Tom Geiger replied to The Junkman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have to agree. I grew up in the military so I was exposed to all kinds of cars around the world. I too love the cars of the past, our automotive roots and the progress made over the years. The fads like art deco and later rocket ship design. I love old Euro cars since I remember seeing them in the streets... things like Borgward Isabellas, Opel Kadetts and old Ford Taunuses. I have a keen interest in varieties of US cars built in other countries. Include just about anything Australian, Brazilian Novas and Darts, South American trucks, South African varieties (they have a modern ElCamino!) and even Studebakers assembled in Israel. I find it interesting that the police in Russia drove Crown Vics, and those in Iraq drove Chevys. As Scott said, I love the progress of engineering and wouldn't trade the efficiency, quality, comfort and safety of my modern cars to drive a 1950 Chevy daily. But I'm all for keeping a '50 Chevy as a collector car. I tend to like the odd ones. I love my Geo Tracker, but most folks describe it in expletives. I think it's a fun little scoot. Again, not something I choose to drive daily but to take it out for open roof rides in the summer, and in the snow in the winter. Getting into models, I greatly expanded my knowledge and likes in the automotive and truck world. I learned histories and got exposed to vehicles I never saw before, and those I barely noticed. Most of the subjects in my showcase came about this way. My models reflect my eye for the unusual. I will bring rusty old light commercial vehicles to life in plastic, I see these as Norman Rockwell slices of life. I've got a 1960 Plymouth stretch airport limo on my primer shelf. My display case has rat rods with odd engines like a Plymouth flathead 6 and a VW drivetrain under a '32 Ford. I will build the perfect stock Chevette. Just because. I don't get the guys who have a very narrow view of the automotive world. Like the guy who only likes Fords and won't even compliment a model of another make. Or the guys who view my in progress threads on a Chevette or Trabant and respond "Should've put a hemi in it". They're missing a lot! -
3D printing growing as we speak

I thought maybe one of the astronauts read the thread about the custom VW body and wanted to print it! -
That's how I recycled an old worn out model kit tire when I built the little playhouse!

Nah, he got good at it and is making a career out of it! (I actually find BMF relaxing!)

That shrub car photo reminded me of this one I took on St Thomas back in 2007.. I need to go back and see if it's still there!
