Thanks Monte and George - I'll have to scare up a copy of that Corvette... or does anyone have that kit and can spare the flares? I can trade gold and silver for them I know that they aren't the flares in the Monza, because someone had previously suggested that and I have the Monza kit to compare. Yes, I am trying to restore that one. There's just something really different about those flares on a '57

I was four and giving cheesy smiles from inside our brand new 1962 Studebaker Lark! That year we lived in an apartment across the street from my grandparents in Jersey City, NJ and my father, the US army officer, spent that year in Viet Nam. I did go to the New York Worlds Fair in 1965. I remember seeing Mustangs there, and my sister sang that "Small World" song for years.

Model cars are like drugs. First you get hooked, then you become a swap meet dealer to support your habit! -
what's it take? concept to package?
Tom Geiger replied to tbill's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It's labor but a different discipline. It's pretty much high end CAD designing on a computer rather than by hand. Keep in mind that the folks who can actually produce the CAD work are very skilled. Any cost savings over the old methods, adjusted for inflation, won't make kits cheaper in the future. But it will keep them affordable and within reach. -

Hey Tory! Imagine bumping into you here! Tory's father worked with Jim Keeler back the Aurora days. -
your work bench
Tom Geiger replied to dabelltoller's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Nuthin wrong with garbage pickin! It's come in fashion and called being green! My workbench is an old hollow core door that sits on two old night stands. Yes, all from the curb. My first display case is an old china cabinet that I grabbed from my sister, enroute to the curb. My smaller cabinet I swapped with my wife, because she liked the dark wood one I found at the curb. Earlier this year, we were on our way home and saw someone had thrown out 6 dining room chairs. I also had 4 old bentwood chairs I found earlier. I put them all on Craigs List one Saturday morning. By days end I had $250 cash I didn't have before! -
I have been working on the Heller Citroen Bordens milk truck which is pretty much the same kit you have. I also have two copies of the Normande. With the Fotki photo transition, I have gone to my folder for this build and it's empty! So I can't post any photos right now. A few things... The chassis builds up onto the fender unit. It's difficult to assemble, think very old Revell spindly parts. I have used my drill and pin technique to get it assembled and aligned. Spare tire mount - there is no definite mount point, I drilled and pinned mine. You won't have the issues with the body I had, the Bordens truck is a multi piece body that needs to be built up upon that fender unit. It doesn't really square up well, I would do it different next time. But I'd recommend that you test fit everything! Leave nothing to chance, never assume the parts will fit. I really like the engine etc on this one. Do a Google search and you will find a lot of photos of 1:1 Citroens of this era. The trucks and cars are off the same base, and the same mechanically. I found a couple of close up engine shots and built mine accordingly. Good luck! I'll be watching! I have two Normandes. I did steal parts from one to replace parts I broke on the Bordens (yea, those spindly chassis parts!) but I did notice that the Normande body sits on a '34 Ford chassis like it was born there!

No need to do math for scale! Get yourself a 1/25 scale ruler. I have one.

'31 model a tudor (chopped and channeled)
Tom Geiger replied to crazyrichard's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Very nice work Richard! I did tons of work on my old house, including a two story addition that was a kitchen and master suite. The house I live in now is the way I bought it. I also have a glass table. I bought this at an old furniture shop. At first they had this table and two smaller end tables for $1000. I went back a month later and they just had this table, marked down to $250. So I grabbed it. When I got it, the table was just a glass top, so I added the tray to make it a keepsake table. See Ted sleeping in his chair. That's why we call him the Couch Chameleon. He just blends in! The table is full of those small things that get put in drawers because you have no where to display them. Some antiques and things we've collected, and some keep sakes like concert tickets and other family trinkets. -
Looks fun! I'll be watching. Maybe cut out and save those 9 pane windows!

'66-'77 Early Ford Bronco Resin Kit
Tom Geiger replied to Gregg's topic in Truck Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Nice work Gregg! I have one of the old original Cheesecast Broncos but definitely want a pickup version! My high school had a dark green pickup that they used to plow snow from their lot. The coaches also used it to make teams do a forced run. There's a photo in my yearbook of the coach sitting in the back bed watching the runners behind him. I need to duplicate that pickup! Let us know if anyone hits that Buy It Now Button! -
Add this Corvette convertible to the list. There was also a Gremlin and I believe I have a Chrysler Cordoba. As a late release, I remember buying the above Corvette convertible, the Gremlin and the Thunderbird in the grocery store for a dollar apiece in the late 1980s or early 1990s. At the time they meant nothing to me so I let my daughter have the Corvette and I gave the Gremlin to someone in my club who was into AMC.

VC Valiant Wayfarer Ute resin from Australia! It's on my bucket list to import one of these 1:1s. My friend from Australia was visiting here this week and brought me this. He said it's one of two existing, as Tony hasn't started casting them for retail just yet. So Tony has one built up he did and I have casting number two! Yea!

Sure could hand out a lot of those tickets! Many years ago in New Jersey, there was a woman that was harassing her neighbors. The neighbor found an old 1700s law for "being a common scold" which was described as a meddling old woman. Yea, with the stereotype and all. Since the law was still on the books, the local police did charge her with it. It became a big giggle in the local news. I don't remember what the outcome was, but I'm pretty sure they took the law off the books after that! -
Cheers Fred and welcome to the board. If I send you my mailing address can you send me your Austin??

Ford did outsell Chevy in 1957! A forgotten fact, especially in view of the popularity of the '57 Chevy!

I have heard that the Chinese designers, tooling and manufacturing folks are very, very good. The equivalent of old world craftsmen. -
My friend from Australia uses this. He said he starts with flakes and mixes the solution. He was telling me that he tried to get CSC since he saw it on the board. He either wanted to know where to buy it, or what the active ingredients were and what would be the Aussie equivalent. So he called up Castrol in Australia and the folks there hadn't heard of it. The guy called him back and said no, it wasn't available, and that nothing that caustic would be allowed to be sold in Australia!

I use Mr Clean kitchen floor cleaner to strip chrome. I just pour a little bit in a clear glass, add parts and let it sit over night. Totally clean. I then put the liquid back in the bottle. Fairly friendly and has a lemon scent.

I've always loved those GTOs! Back when they were new I got invited to a GM drive event and that hooked me on them. Especially with the 6 speed. I've pined after them ever since, and am dismayed that they are pretty much holding their value. Great models. I have a few I need to get onto my shelf too.

And then there's this one! Can anyone ID the flares on this poor ole '57?
