  1. First built 20 years ago, this Shelby started as the '80s reissue, the one with the really ugly green car on the box. It was falling in disrepair, and needed some attention and an update. As at least the third issue, they cheapened it up over the original by eliminating the clear red taillights and retooling the wheels for the Goodyear Polyglass tires - which are a bit too big for the model. When they messed with the wheels, all spoke detail was lost and the result was a terrible toy-like wheel. When I built it, I concentrated on fixing the inherent problems that all AMT annual '67-'68 Mustangs have; unrealistic engine bay, hokey suspension detail, and non-rolling wheels. I hate that, everything I build must roll, it's just a thing with me. Monogram to the rescue with '66 Mustang engine bay and suspension, also the bullet mirrors. I cut the chrome taillights out and made some lenses from parts box lights, and the crummy wheels were swapped for Monogram '65 Shelby wheels on Michelin TRX tires. Although better than the kit parts, I wasn't happy with either. Fast-forward ten years. I scored an original issue built-up at a model swap meet, really ugly job but had the tail pan with clear red taillights, and a nice set of original wheels with the somewhat rare redline/blueline Firestones. It took a while, But I finally got around to cleaning it up and putting the right parts on it. I used the blue line side of the tires because it looks kind of late '60s Shelby-ish, and I don't think I've ever seen another build with them. -MJS
  2. I like it, but maybe only because if it was a primary color with white stripes, it would look like fifteen-thousand and three other Cobra kit cars. -MJS
  3. If you look at his feedback, he got $1,470 for a '69 Imperial, a Juha Airio master if I'm not mistaken. -MJS
  4. Slow and medium CA, liquid styrene, and two tubes of this: Came in a model box from a friend who had it in a closet for over 30 years. I don't know exactly how old it is, but it still works perfectly, and believe it or not, no strings. I've had Testors tube glue start stringing in one year. -MJS
  5. Wow, that's nice. There is a market for "pro built" models on ebay, the ones that fetch the big money are built very well, foiled, and always bone stock. Often cars that were never offered in kit form, lots of resin ike that Comet. That guy added the Villager wood trim, the 6cyl engine (too bad no engine pics) and other details that the resin 404 wagon body doesn't have. As for the value, it's all relative. If the buyer/collector of such cars makes lots of money, then it really doesn't affect them much. -MS
  6. Here's my 1:1 '74 440 cop car. Sure would be nice to have a... no, won't go there. -MJS
  7. And they were both, um, special looking. -MJS
  8. Fotki is asking for a password to view the album, so I can't enlarge the pics. But looks great. -MJS
  9. Just remembered the 1960 Comet 4dr sedan, and the 1965-ish AMC Ambassador 4dr sedan. -MJS
  10. It is missing, Chuck. That is a promo, and it was made from a defective batch of plastic - it's extremely brittle. It has cracks in several places, a screw post is broken out, and it's just too delicate to mess with, so it's a collection filler. Shame, because it's a good looking car. -Mike
  11. Hubley 1960-1962 Ford wagons. AMT 1970 Ford 4dr hardtop LTD Several in the Modelhaus catalog, like a '61 Falcon 2dr wagon. I'll let someone else list the various Chevy IIs and Chevelles.
  12. I don't see the need, we have concealed carry here. -MJS
  13. I'm gathering the parts for the replica of my 1:1. Some of those parts are not that easy to find. -MJS
  14. Awesome. The only thing that looks off to me is that the carbs must sit flat, the floats wouldn't work at those angles. If you get back into it, fashion some wedges to go between the carbs and the blowers. Other than that, one wild GT there. -MJS
  15. Superb. I was a bit surprised to see the Allison in there, did any of those trucks run them in 1:1, or were they diesels? -MJS
  16. Was the Quicksilver a Daniel creation? I built it as a kid and really liked it. Fit together well, and I think it even came with a piece of yellow fuzz paper for carpeting. -MJS
  17. A big bloody V8 hanging behind the rear axle would make for some truly exciting, and by that I mean terrifying, handling. -MJS
  18. Real. And did it have a cab fire? -MJS
  19. A 100% original '57 Chevy build. Feels weird just typing it. -MJS
  20. Definitely the '60 Plymouth Fury 2dr ht Stock '70 Maverick kit with the six cylinder engine Late '60s Rambler 2dr ht Any '63-'70 Cadillac Deville convertible '78 Caddy promo '62 Plymouth Fury convert '62 Dodge Dart convert Any full size '60s American car promos that haven't been reissued yet, including the AMCs. -MJS
  21. That Mirada simply takes my breath away, Tamiya couldn't render it better than that. Not one single line or tiny detail out of place. Juha is the Gerald Wingrove of 1:25 scale. Oh, how I wish he would do a Fairmont Futura or Zephyr Z7. -MJS
  22. I just came back from there. Didn't buy anything. Nice little meet, most kits were mid '80s and newer, very little older than that. Most dealers clearly hold back the good stuff for ebay. -MJS
  23. Maybe they bagged it...
