The explanation among some manufacturers and collectors in the '80s was that it was a popular scale among European collectors, because they lived in small houses and apartments which had limited space for collections of larger models. You can have a pretty big collection of 1:43 cars on a multi shelf wall unit or display case. This drove the selection of sometimes very obscure subjects, not to mention that nicely detailed 1:43 cars can be quite exquisite and jewell-like. -MJS
  4. Thanks Chuck. Here's another one from the Wayback Machine. '69 Kitty was built a looooong time ago, (25+ years) from the AMT/Matchbox issue Cougar street machine. This issue didn't contain stock parts, had a hole in the hood, and period-goofy decals. I convertible-ized it, top boot is modified '50 Ford, Made the top side wells, sun visors from the parts box, wire wheels from the '65 Riv kit, rubber Pirelli tires from a Porsche kit, ( I think) and an MPC Cobra jet scoop was the perfect shape to hide the hood hole. This was also the first of many AMT Mustangs and Cougars that got the then-new Monogram '65 Mustang engine compartment that fits so nicely in these kits. I replaced the kit supplied Boss 429 with a 428 Cobra Jet, and lowered it slightly. It was a fun build back when no plan existed, you just sort of let things take shape as you went. -MJS

  7. They are all beautiful, and I like unusual Mustangs so the IIs and the McLaren caught my eye first. Fantastic. -MJS
  8. My AMT original (and only) issue '67 and '68. Both restored from built ups, the '67 was decent, but the '68 was a glue bomb requiring some special attention. The '68 was done semi-promo style, the '67 in a factory color single stage. I have a built MPC '70 that I'll probably do here as an Eliminator. -MJS

  15. I built that one in the early '80s, painted dark metallic blue with the wire wheels from the Monogram Corvette America kit. Looked fantastic, I want another one. -MJS

  20. Not today, but within the last two weeks: Been looking for one for years when this showed up on ebay. Threw a crazy bid at it, and got it on a four second snipe. I had to have it. It was still factory wrapped until it got to my bench. -MJS
  21. I've been using Chrometech for over 15 years, and Bob is the best anywhere. He's a model builder, so he knows exactly what to do, and the end result will be better than any Italeri chrome you've seen. If you're not comfortable properly stripping the tree, let him do it. -MJS
  22. Just do a Google image search for '87-'91 F-250/F-350 pickups, and you're sure to find examples of the color scheme you want. -MJS
