  1. See how much of Jo-Han I could put back together? Maybe give Revellogram a real run for their money.
  2. Looking really good so far. The chassis is shaping up really nice.
  3. Picked up a couple of gluebombs on Ebay. Got a Tom Daniel "Paddy Wagon" and an IMC Ford GT40. Also picked up a battery powered motor tool from another site that uses standard Dremel bits, but doesn't require a speed control to bring it down to styrene levels. I've been using it to clean up ejector pin marks, smooth putty carving, etc.
  4. My grandfather had some interesting ones. My Uncle was the one with the cool ones, though. He had a 1970 Plymouth Superbird. He bought it wrecked, parked it for years and still ended up selling it for a lot. Some of the others were a 1969 Chevy Nova, 1968 Road Runner, 1973 Satellite Sebring, 1970 Chrysler 300, etc... Unfortunately, by the time I was old enough to be interested in getting any of them off of him, they were all piles of rust. I think they've all been hauled off, now.
  5. Almost had one last night. Was bidding on a Union Porsche 917K, had it for $25 with free shipping. Someone sniped me at the last 5 seconds. I'll get one eventually.
  6. I did the same thing on my F&F Toyota Supra kit. I used some thin round stock and a little superglue, cut it off flush and once it was dry sanded it smooth. It turned out pretty good.
  7. I've had an IMC 48 ford and an Aston Martin DB 4 that both had folding seats. Those were both bench setups, though. Not sure about buckets.
  8. Used something like those for the doors on my 58 T-Bird
  9. I never picked up the habit. The only time I ever smoked at all was a couple of clove cigarettes around some of my friends, but that wasn't a common thing. The best anti-smoking information came from my dad. He's ex-military, smoked most of his adult life. He told me once if he ever caught me with a cigarette in my mouth, he'd kill me. I believe that.
  10. It also depends on if the pads and pathways are still attached to the board. If it got too hot, they'll pull off as soon as they're unsoldered. It's hard to tell what the value of that resistor is since it's so damaged. Maybe if you know the exact model of the rotary tool, we can find a schematic that will tell us what it is.
  11. Very nice job on both of these kits.
  12. I like where you're going with this. Keep the rear engine.
  13. Very nice! I want to get one of these so I can build my old 72 Skylark Custom.
  14. Can't get into this. It's like the "car pelts" that someone was doing there for a while. A whole car is beautiful, even an old rusted POS. There's nothing that really does anything for me in this.
  15. Been wondering why no one was adding anything on there in a while. It's a shame, they had a nice forum. Sorry to hear this.
  16. NICE!! Major improvement over the original.
  17. Looking good so far. That was a pretty decent kit if I remember correctly.
  18. Lindberg/Model King Triumph GT6+. Got it for about $13.50 before shipping.
  19. I was hoping someone would do this kit and correct the suspension. looking good so far!
  20. Questionnaire Please answer the following questions in your own words: 1. What is a model kit? A collection of parts including instructions that allow someone with the proper skills to make a pre-sculpted representation of an object. Can represent people, vehicles, animals, weapons, etc. 2. What activities (e.g. painting, sanding, burnishing) do you associate with modelling? painting, sanding, correcting errors (both from the kit or my own), assembly, applying metallic foils, sometimes designing new assemblies... 3. Do you follow instructions when building a model? Typically, but not always, and almost never in the sequence they are depicted. 4. How skilled are you at modelling? Moderate to high, depending on the subject. It's ALWAYS a learning process. 5. What are kit conversions? Have you ever done a kit conversion? Kit conversions are either supplemental pieces (either home made or purchased from a vendor) that change the nature of the kit. Haven't done one yet, but I'm willing. Does PE emblems count? If so, then yes. 6. What is kitbashing? Have you ever kitbashed? Kit-bashing is taking two or more kits, plus home made parts sometimes, to make something different than any of the original kits. I think almost all of the kits I've done so far have been a least a little kit-bashed, from changing the wheels and tires to something more realistic to a full on engine and chassis conversion. Still need to post my Monte Carlo... 7. What is the object of model-making? What is the end product? The object of model building? I think that's entirely subjective. For me, the object is just relaxation, enjoyment of the community, making things with my own hands... The end product? Usually something I'm proud to show off (once in a while something I kinda hide if I screw up too bad).
  21. Nice! I've got one of those kinds of compasses around the house. I'll have to get cracking.
  22. Gonna have to get this one. Thanks for the pics!
  23. Not all of their kits were crude. Some of them were barely above promos, but then there were ones like the full detail Chrysler Turbine. There's nothing crude about that kit. It's as detailed and fiddly as any that are out there now.
