63 Impala Super Sport
george 53 replied to The Modeling Hermit's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Now that I think about it Doug, the SS trim package was available on ANY style,as it was JUST a trim package. I don't beleive it was necessary to order a V-8, that's one reason your 63 was unique. I was under the understanding that the SS package wasn't standardized as comeing with the BIG BLOCKS till 68, before that time you could order the SS option with a 6 cylinder. Maybe one of the guys knows better? How bout it fellas? -

To be honest witcha Doug, I don't think there is a 63 Chevy with a 6, unless you go all the way back to the 63 AMT Chevy II Nova kit. Try the 6 that cames in the Galaxie Limited 48 Chevy. Or the 51 Chevy's. ALL chevy in-line 6's look alike anyway, so who'd know? I THINK that the 60 Chevy truck by AMT has a 6 in it too. Yep, just checked, and it DOES! so do the 37 coupe/convert kits of the Chevy by AMT. There may be more 6's out there, but these came to mind right quick.I hope this helps! -
BUt I really wanted 2, one for models, and one for making JERKY!!!! I love Jerky!!!!! DO you think it is ok to use one for both? I doubt it....... Prob make your jerky taste like Testors!!! Rudy Oh NO don't even THINK of usein it for both! I personally don't know, but I'd be too afraid of that exact thing, makein whatever you tried to use it on, taste like paint! No, NOT a good idea. Don't want nobody fallin out caz they tried it!

Well I can tell ya one thing, NOTHING from R&R is THAT well cast! Just lookin at the pics of it, I can tell ya firsthand, that Ray does NOT go thru the lengths that AAM went thru when it was originally cast. Even the pics show the quality of AAM's castings. R&R has some interesting off the wall kits, but to compare then to Modelhaus or AAM is a real stretch of the imagination. Don't get me wrong, I KNOW Ray Parsons personally, and while he may be a nice guy(sometimes) he DOES NOT have the contientousness of AAM or Modelhaus, and you DO have to see what your buying UP CLOSE an personal like, to make sure that A. you want it bad enough, and B.You can build it. I have his 53 Merc 2 Dr. and I don't think ANYONE can build it without cutting it up,and trying to get the parts in their proper locations, and reglueing it back together,BEFORE you ever START building it. Yeah, I know I blew my own rule there, but I WANTED it!

I've had one about 20 years! It's sooooo old(How old is it Johnny?)it doesn't even have a TEMP setting!Badump Bump! Hi-Lo, thats it! I regulate the temp at about 105/107, with an oven thermometer and useing the vents on the lid. I do gotta admit it DOES work! Now I need to learn to paint to make it REALLY worthwhile! There's all kindsa trick to help ya out Dewan, jus ask, SOMEONE here'll know!

Andy,Marcos, I do beleive Fred Cady's been out of buisness for at least 2/3 years. I have seen some of his sheets on the 'Bay, but to too often. I was under the impression that he had sold off most of his inventory, and if you didn't get 'em when he was selling them out, you MAY be out of luck. I'm in the same boat, as I have that SAME kit from Model Round-Up!, and I could use a set too! Hope it goes well.
-

Marcos, I have that SAME body, an your right, after a little cleanin up, it DOES make up a nice model! Only thing, I personally thought the scoops were TOO close together. So I just ground them off an used the scoops from an old gluebomb I had layin around. But I'm gonna DEFINATELY hafta get me one if them chisel thingies! Thanks for the tip!!
-
Heath, that's caz it's a RESIN body, and not a plastic one. Resin casters use a whole buncha different resins to cast their products. Some work better than others.I have some resin bodies that feel almost grainy an rough, and others that are JUST LIKE plastic! Ask around, to see what's available and who to stay away from! NOT all resin casters care about the customer, so be warned ahead of time, but the MAJORITY of them are pretty straight up guys, who will try to help you out.The best resin casters products speak for themselves!!!

REAL NICE build! I had a chance to buy a 67 427 Biscayne back in 74, for 1500.00 bucks caz of the gas crunch, just didn't have the money! Your build came out GREAT!!!!
-
Hans, THANKS SO MUCH for takin the time to post these pics. I, as well as everyone who's seen them appericiate it! There's a toy show I go to here in Detroit twice a year, an a guy there ALWAYS has those big red plastic boxes with the zig-zaggy type covers, FULL of the plastic sprues, with parts, for the Jo-Han Sox & Martin Cuda, and the 75? Olds Cutlass. He's got a few Cuda bodies with chassis and interiors, but you gotta buy the glass seperately too! This guys gonna get EVERY cent ol Jo-Han ever owed him!!! You can actually build a complete car, except for tires, but it'll cost you ALOT more than the 10 bucks I usually pay from the guy who bags all the parts for you to sell almost complete kits, except for the tires, decals, and instructions, in a zip lock. Go figger? Makes you wonder WHERE these guys got these parts, cause they've ALWAYS got them. At least they've had 'em at the last coupla shows I've been to, an they don't seem to run out, at least they haven't yet!
