29' Ford
59 Impala replied to Mr.Zombie's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
This is a great looking truck. The rusting is right on. Not to much and not to little. I like rusted vehicles and this one is in the top group of rusted vehicles to me anyway. Two thumbs up Dan -
I too think it's AWESOME. The rusting looks right on. One of the best rusted vehicles that I've seen anywhere. Great job. Two thumbs up. Dan

I also use Testors paper, white and clear. Here is a little tip on saving paper. First print your image on regular paper using the draft setting, to save ink, then cut a piece of decal paper a little bit bigger than the image and tape it to the regular paper and run it thru the printer again. You have to use double sided tape for this. I have saved a lot of decal paper printing this way. I hope this will help someone. Dan

spray booth explosion
59 Impala replied to Bowtienutz's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I built mine out of scrap plywood and a squirle cage exhaust fan that the company was throwing away because it was frozen (not working, locked up, bearing froze). I took apart the motor and oiled the bearing and it works just fine. Cost to me--------Zero. I use furnace filters and drier duck tubing to exhaust the fumes. Here is a pic of what it looks like. Excuse the poor pic, it's the only one that I have at the moment that shows the whole thing. Dan -
Guys, I'm trying to find out some information about Jim Reeds 59 Impala nascar and I'm not having much luck. Can anyone help? I have found a few pictures of the car, but most of them are of a replica of it and not the race car. I need to know what the engine looks like and if they used two shocks at each wheel. I want to make it as close as possible to the real car. Thanks in advance. Dan

I too use only testors enamels almost exclusively. I have used Alclad which I think is lacquer. I haven't used anything else in my airbrush except future once in awhile. Dan

Well done so far Bradley. Those colors should look great together. Will you be bringing it to the meeting next month? Hope so. Dan -
I just found this thread and am I very impressed. James you have done an excellent job on restoring this car. One thing though, I think you should have painted the top first and then masked it off. The Pink might bleed thru when you paint the white. Also, in the pic it looks like you haven't rescribed the trim around the window. I would have done that before painting. Are you going to use bare metal foil for the trim? I do really like what you've done so far. She looks great. Dan

I'd say go for the 330. I love those old Dodges. Dan

I didn't shorten the frame on this truck, I lengthend it,but the same thing could be used to shorten the frame. I'm not sure if this will help but what I did to the frame of this Ford was to cut the frame on an angle and then cut the other side the oppisite direction. This makes a strong joint and not very easy to brake. Here is a picture of what it looks like. Dan

Here are some of my trucks
59 Impala replied to 59 Impala's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Thanks fellas for the kind comments. They all were fun for me. The dog was sent to me by a guy in Texas who got it from a guy in Germany and all at not cost. God bless modelers for helping each other. He is supposed to be Bullet from the Roy Rogers show back in the 50's. I have a figure who is supposed to be Pat Brady, the guy who drove Nellybelle. There are more pics in my photobucket on all of these trucks if you would like to see them. I had fun converting the 53 and the GMC to 4x4's. They both have the same frame and drive train in them from the Mule Skinner Chevy truck. The other 53 has the dump parts from the MPC 53 and I had to make parts of the ram from scratch in order for it to work right. Of course building Nellybelle was a real trip for me cause it was the first time that I did a lot of scratch building. The doors a brass sheet, the boxes on top of the rear fenders are made from sheet plastic and the rung is copper wire. Parts from 5 different Jeeps were used to finish her. That's about all for now. Agian, thanks for the kind words. Dan P.S. As for my screen name Mike, I also build cars and the 59 Impala is my favorite one. -
Thread for Ideas for New Topics/Categories
59 Impala replied to Gregg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I can see that part of the problem here is people don't pay attention to what is in the contents of a thread. Example: Gregg said to NOT quote others and a hole bunch of you did exactly that. This place is starting to get to me and I am mostly quiet about these kinds of stuff. I don't like what I see going on here anymore. I'm almost fed up really. Grow up. Dan -

Question for the Trucker Guys

Thanks Porky. Sorry it took me so long to reply. Dan -
I've never had any good results with the freezer method. One way that worked for me was to use liquid glue in the joint of the glue. I had to go over the joint a few times with the glue and it finally loosened up the joint so I could pull it apart. I did this on the seats of the 63 Impala that I rebuilt and it was the only way that I could get them out of the interior, and it didn't hurt the interior tub. You do have to be careful that you don't use to much glue cause it will melt the tub. Practice and paitience is what it takes to get the job done. Dan

I don't build many trucks but I have built some and have more to build. What I need to know is how can you replicate the rims like the ones in the Opel Blitz kit? I can't afford the kit cause it's way to expensive for me, but I would like to use those typ of wheels on an old Chevy or Ford truck. Any help would be appreciated. Dan

59 Impala replied to MikeMc's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Well, I've spent over an hour reading this stuff and I can't believe people argue over these kits. They're models for crying out loud, and very good ones at that. I have both kits and will build them in time. As you can see in this pic I do have them. Now if you want to discuss dificult models here are two of them, the 46-48 Fords by Testors. I also will build them when I get to them. Everything is in line to get built. I enjoy building and I also enjoy this Forum. What I don't like is politics. Please leave politics out of modeling. Enjoy this hobby and all the friends you meet on the different forums, and ignor the ones who try to start arguments. Just my 2cents fellas. Relax and enjoy the hobby. Dan -
Thanks alot Mike. I'm glad you like it and I can't wait to see what you build. Dan
