Nikola One. Hmm...
lapazleo replied to iamsuperdan's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Their claim that typical modern diesel tractor has only a 500 to 750 mile range is about half of reality and very few modern diesel road tractors weigh over 20000 full of fuel. But like I say neat looking just not ready for prime time.I suspect will be seeing Diesels for the near future as even cng power has had only limited success. -

Their website is full of exagerations and incorrect facts and some pretty tall claims. The first unit doesn't appear to exist in reality yet. Most likely another green company headed for bankruptcy subsidized by we the people. But again I could see one with more normal modern diesel power becoming reality. A truly innovative concept but not ready for the real world. It would however be an interesting model. -

A more conventional diesel version would be possible but hydrogen power will not likely catch on due to current infrastructure which would be cost prohibitive to change. Still requires oil products such as lubrication, plastic parts, tires etc. And the batteries present a host of issues as many Prius have owners found out. Looks wise not bad similar to other future designs I've seen. -

Loving it still. Had many of them blow by me on the Ohio pike in packs of 3 and 4 many years ago. Hard to mistake those orange fenders and most of them had green bug shields in my mirror. -

These kits are impressive considering how long ago they were tooled. Notice the intake on the right indicating a 672 cid Cummins prob 150 or 180 hp -
Ok here are the facts as close as can remember. 96 to 02 volvo built the vnl 200 (4x2) vnl300 (6x4) vnl 610 midroof vnl 660 small condo vnl 770 big condo. In 03 they were redesigned with new hood etc daycabs kept same model numbers and sleepers are vnl 630 vnl 670 vnl 780. Also offered are a short hood version in day cab and sleeper models called the vnm most sold as daycabs with very few sleepers. Dart transits volvos are vnm's. The vhd has it's own hood with the basic Volvo daycab but is different underneath as it is a vocational chassis. The vnl430style single bunk is the only sleeper offered on the vhd. A better option to build a vhd might be starting with a resin daycab conversion for the 780 kit. Volvo also builds a special model for auto hauling the vah 300 430 and 630. The hood is similar to the vhd with a chopped top cab and low profile chassis.

Notice the green Ace Doran truck has the rare prototype style steps the AMT kit has. -

Still lovin it. -
The KW could be a number of ratings. Prior to the early 70's turboed Cummins weren't aftercooled. Could be a 262,270,280,290,335 very early small cam 350,380 and so on. The Freightliner almost likely a 400 as the big cam 400 was quite common in that era. Cummins are hard to tell hp by appearance. Turboed Cummins can be 743 cid or 855 cid as well and are very similar in appearance.

lapazleo replied to KJ790's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
I believe they also had the bigger air cleaners. They were the last Monfort w 9s as the next group Monfort bought were k 100s with 8v71t 350 detroits and allisons. The detroits didn't hold up well and some were replaced by the then new Cummins kt 450. Really liking this build. -

Looking good I guessed your plans correctly. A bit of info the cat powered w9s Monfort had didn't have painted fuel tanks like the rest of the fleet which had small cam 350 Cummins and 4 x 4 transmissions. -

NEW release - White Freightliner Single-Drive (AMT 1004)

Since single axle daycab freightliners were as common in the 60s and 70s as cascadias and centurys are today there's oodles of projects possible. -

Since freightliners cab changed very little from the 60s to early 70s amts kits are easily backdated.
