Applying decals on rims
vypurr59 replied to wheelingmountaineer's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Clear coat, where the decal is supposed to go, may have to brush, or mask carefully, but the decal will stick to the clear coat. -
I would use a piece of craft foam, and "stamp" the paint on the raised portion of lettering. Use of a liquid masking agent in this type of painting, may be prudent as well. I purchased a product called Mold Builder. It is a latex rubber product, that when dries, can be peeled like a skin, off the area.

Mix VERY well, it did this to me when I first started making a wash. After mixing real well, it was comparable to the washes commercially available.

Blending rubber and aluminum
vypurr59 replied to hgbben's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
My experiences with super glues and aluminum are that the aluminum would take on a frosted appearance from the chemicals in CA. I would think that an epoxy would be a better choice. -

Don't forget about embroidery floss available at craft stores, many colors and can be used with white glue. The corvette in the background, had the floss added to the seats. -

Zinc chromate mixed with green, makes for a convincing color for anti freeze. I use approximately 2 drops of zinc chromate to 1 drop of green. I have purchased clear resin from the craft store, mixed in some acrylic paint (blue) and poured like a pond, then airbrushed color on it of differant shades of blues and greens. -
Painting with Nail Polish question....
vypurr59 replied to kitbash1's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Dollar stores are great places to get nail polish in very many colors. I would tend to stay away from the large flake (metalflake) colors. Tends to clog the airbrush. -

Cutting the masking tape while it is on the paint job, also helps to seal the edges from bleed as well. Learned this from painting RC car bodies, which are clear, so bleed shows very badly on these. Even if I am doing just a straight line mask, I always use a ruler and an exacto blade to seal the edges, and sometimes a little clear coat, before any color, to help with any cleanup, should the paint bleed -
You can fill the tires with an RTV Silicone, put a dowel rod through the center hole and clamp them to a table or wood block, you can do several tires at one time with this method. I do dip the tires in boiling water to soften them, before the RTV goes inside.

Questions for the rc builders
vypurr59 replied to Kaleb's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
You could look into hoppin hydros for some parts. Do a search on e-bay and you will find a bunch of stuff. Wheels, tires, and chassis kits. There is even an e-bay online store for these items. They also have LED strips for underlighting a car. As for rc cars, Revell used to make their RPMZ which was a 1/24 th scale model rc car. I found some at a clearance store for $20. In the revell catalog, they have pre painted bodies in a Mustang, Challenger, and 2 Nascars. Kyosho made the Mini Z, and was sold at Radio Shacks for some time. These cars had alot of hop ups for them. Videos of these can be seen on youtube. -
Congrats to you. So many people have so much going on in their lives, that we forget about those close to us. I am Thankful for those going on with their own struggles and coping with them. Much health to you....

On this day before Thanksgiving, I want to give thanks to all of the members I have met on this forum. I thank the local hobby shops that remain in business, during these tough times. I also thank all the manufacturers that remain, and the newcomers to our "sport". Here is wishing your families have health, and happiness throughout the year, and many more to come. HAPPY THANKSGIVING

Great rubber offroad tires with nice rims for 8$
vypurr59 replied to MsDano85gt's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Great find. I also find diecast cars in 1/32 that have "DONK" wheels. I have purchased them just for the wheels and tires. The rest becomes painting test beds. The "DONK" wheels are just the perfect size for 1/25th scale cars. Here is a pic of the wheels I found and used them for this low rider car -
First time airbrushing and using alclad

Noticed the same problem when shooting the Alclad over an enamel base. Try using a lacquer base coat. -
Always held the 1st sunday in November. It is held at Kirtland High School. I believe the train show is at the Lakeland College campus. 482 models were on display.

Best way to make a tachometer

Rod and tube, if you don't have a lathe. Get the size rod needed for the body, tube to fit outside the main body. -
Here is a link to an RC car light and horn system http://soundrc.com/ While I have not used this particular unit, I have used the light controller module for some neons under my RC car. Hope this helps you

For the styrene habit, or scratch builders...
vypurr59 replied to rel14's topic in Links to Aftermarket Suppliers
Look for an art supply store for what is called a matte cutter. I has an attachment for a guide from an edge. So as long as you have 1 "square" edge, you can make strips.
