  1. I guess that is where the saying "pulling it by the short hairs" came to be..... LMAO
  2. Has the base coats had enough time to dry before masking?
  3. I used the SpazStix on a lexan body and It has a great gloss and looks like chrome, but you paint the body from the inside, and everything is in reverse. Alclad for lexan worked the same. The Alclad made for styrene, did not adhere to the lexan, the Alclad for lexan, sprayed on styrene, made it craze. Have not used the SpazSiix on styrene, since I had the bad results with the lexan paint on styrene from before. As always, test on a similar type of plastic.
  4. Purple stuff, was originally the Castrol Super Clean, but even that also has changed formulations. But still works, just takes a few minutes longer.
  5. The only time that the online parts order did not work for me was an out of production kit. Revell has fast service for their parts orders.
  6. I haven't seen the outside since, what day is it? oh well, no I think we all get to a point where progress slows while our brains recharge. I have 2 models working and a diorama that I have been working on for about 3 months straight. Luckily the deadline I have is about 2 months away. But every now and then I have to say, I had enough and walk away.
  7. Plastic parts boxes, available in sporting goods dept, or craft stores. I bought several and have tires/wheels in 1, parts in others. Can see thru lids, to know what is in each. Shoebox sized plastic boxes with lids also have many uses, for storage, I have several, containing baggies of complete engine assys.
  8. There are some 1/18th scale and 1/12th scale rc car springs that would work. Brands are Losi, Associated, CRC, Tamiya, Traxxas so I am sure you will be able to find a spring at an rc shop. Or web site Tower Hobbies. or ebay look under those scale parts search. they are usually about $2 for a 2 pack new at a hobby store (or were 5 years ago before leaving that sport) Hope that may help as well
  9. I would try to use a setting solution. Many brands are out there. Or could these be peel off vinyl?
  10. I was introduced to modeling from a nurse at the hospital, recovering from bone graft surgery. She bought me a Indycar model and glue. I built it out of the box, could not paint(for obvious reasons). I was 10 years old. Was around the year of 1971 I built cars, planes, boats and whatever I could get at the 5 and dime store. I then just stuck with cars, cause I could see the cars I was building for reference. (Dad got tired of driving from Cleveland to Dayton, to see the planes. Jeff Ace, thanks for this thread GREAT IDEA It is always good to hear how people got involved with a hobby.
  11. Cannot take credit, but passing along a good tutorial. Hope this helps
  12. The bearings in the drill press will not stand up to the side loads that are exerted through milling. Here is a company I deal with, Production Tool Supply. Anne, these guys have anything and everything machine tool related, and comparable pricing. The link takes you to the cross-slide vises. They start at $60 and go from there. http://www.pts-tools.com/cgi/CGP2LMXE
  13. Just to tag this question here also, what about the spot glazing putties that are available. I have seen this at the body shops, but haven't heard any discussions about it. Is this good, bad or not recommended??
  14. http://www.italianhorses.net/Tutorials/Shocks/coils.htm You can start with this. Using less spring coil, would lower it. The Front of the car, would be my concern, because, unless it has separate lower control arms, you are going to have to cut, and hinge pin, to allow movement. Others may have suggestions, just getting you a starting point

  16. I know the feeling about the WIP, I usually forget to take pictures, and when I remember, it is already done...lol
  17. I agree that this tutorial should be pinned. Great work on the turbos, Dale
  18. The batteries, that were quoted along with all the other stuff, was to completely go off grid. Looking back through those numbers now. The installation at the junkyard, was a grid install, with battery backup option, because of the generator he has, will not operate in winds greater than 20mph http://www.pearlwind.com/turbine-press-coverage.html here is a link to the wind generator, at the junkyard
  19. That is also the best advice, cleaning tip, tinning tip, and turning down the power in inactive periods. With a set watt iron, the cord is your on/off switch. Also I read your post wrong, and saw that you spent $130. on yours, and pictured a similar one to the one I mentioned. I do also have a Weller station that ran about $250.00, but has 2 irons and a solder removing station. Used this for benchwork at Fluke, when working there through college. Would have never recommended this for what little need you may have for an iron.
  20. I live in Ohio, and we have Lake Erie. There is talk of a wind farm there. All it is, is talk. The activists are already trying to kill legislation. Enviornmental impact on the Lake?? from building wind towers?? come on, I was too young to remember when this Lake and the Cuyahoga river caught fire. What was the cause, pollutants from the steel mills, electric generation plants, and storm drains, that emptied into these vessels, before the EPA started. Now the river and Lake are clean(at least enough for usage). I have looked into the costs, to put up a wind generator in my backyard. For a generator to supply my needs would cost in the hundreds of thousands of dollars. I would have these costs offset, by supplying the grid, with the overproduction of electricity, within the first 5 years. But then comes the part they don't tell you. STORAGE BATTERY REPLACEMENT AND DISPOSAL COSTS. Again, these are one of the highest expenses. A junkyard in my area, erected a wind tower, so I have talked to him. He has had his paid for, by the power company, as a test. He has told me that every time he calls the company for battery maintenance, it costs him so much, that he had to lease his tower to recoup those costs. So again, one "Green" portion of this equation still has to rely on "WASTEFUL" technology.
  21. They did last year for the I-hobby show, but that is going back to Illinois. But we do have quite a few hobby shops, I have 3 within 30 mins of my house. there are 3 about 50 mins west, 4 shops 50 mins south, and have never been east, since they closed the HobbyTown. There is an interesting one, It is in an old five and dime store called Ben Franklin, in Amherst Ohio, (50 mins west of me). It is like going back to the 1940's. Old school kits galore.
  22. That is not correct. Think of this as 2 momentary switches in 1 case. 2 legs are 1 switch and the other 2 legs are the other.
  23. That was actually G. Holding in post #5 I replied with post #8, link to the $19.95 priced station. I wasn't trying to make you spend more than needed, just looking out for ya. The stuff I got from radio shack, would never hold up, like mine has for over 20 years, and only had to replace the tips.
