Instruction Bloopers
vypurr59 replied to Shelby 427 1965's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Here is a good instruction blooper for you. Testors Lincoln Mint collection Charger Daytona RT In this step, notice the pin locators on the upper block portion in relation to the front cover. The very next step, notice the pin locators again. In the interior, look at the vent on the rear of the console, shows it on the topside But in the next photo, it shows it on the bottom. Guess it lost something in the translation. LOL -
I always tell my wife, that it takes sometimes 2 or 3 kits, just to make 1 good one. And she believes me. Sometimes.

I want to thank Paul and Mike for making it out to the display. Was great to get to see the faces of the people who talk on here. Hope you both got some deals while here also. I know I did.

We have the Lizard Company, and my recently insured and licensed driving daughter had an accident. The claims people, came to the scene, and handled everything, from towing, to getting her home safely. The car was repaired to better condition than it was, before the accident. The only out of pocket expenses, was the deductable. We had a rental car, for the time it was being repaired. I was expecting the premium to rise, but in fact, it had dropped a few dollars. They have accident forgiveness policies. And I could not be more happy with them. I had more problems in the past with Allstate and State Farm because of the car, being a 1985 Camaro. They see the Camaro and doubled the rate, even though this car is a 4 banger, all show and no go.

Holding small parts

You could also use Silly Putty, but make sure it is the name brand. -
Paint the entire floor the lighter color, then paint the darker color, then sand to reveal the lighter color, leaving the dark color in the recesses. Use 800 or 1000 grit paper for the sanding.

Thrift Stores, second hand stores, Salvation Army stores. You can find them there if you look around. Bought one for $5 at a thrift store. -
Wow, this can't be good. New NASCAR points rules.
vypurr59 replied to Greg Myers's topic in WIP: NASCAR
The first reaction I had was this bites. But after reviewing the procedure. You still have to make the chase. 16 drivers that are in the chase, for the first 3 races, must win to stay in. The winners of those 3 races are locked into the next round, along with the top points racers to complete the field and 3 more races, with a points reset. Then another round of eliminations. Looks like this will create more "rubbin" to assure a shot at the next round. That is what Nascar is trying to do to attract more fans, If this format had been in place last year, Matt Kenseth would have been the champ. I would really like to see it go back to the most wins=champ, like the days of Petty, Yarbourgh, and Pearson. Still going to watch because any format would be better than no racing at all. -

Have you tried the manufacturers websites? http://www.recaro.com/ http://www.corbeau.com/ -
Depends on what they were glued with. If Testors tube, you can put the engine in a plastic bag and into the freezer overnight. It makes the glue brittle. then try to separate with an edge of an xacto blade. If super glue, try alcohol. Acetone is the preferred chemical, but may damage plastic.

enamels or acrylics plastic cars
vypurr59 replied to robdot's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
You can airbrush these paints also, BUT you must use a flow enhancer, and to allow for the flow to remain glossy, a retarder(sold separately) I have purchased both of these in a craft store.(normally they are by the Creatix brand paints) but work with most of the other paints in the acrylic line. -
Also look in the train section of your hobby store, as they have many small pins for track hold downs.

Ted is correct. The SS is the 6th generation Nascar Sprint cup series car. It has not been released as a model(as of yet) I have been collecting Nascar models and am waiting to have the 6th Gen car.

Old Gas Stations and Cars
vypurr59 replied to Ramfins59's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Here is a link that was posted before of a PBS broadcast about old gas stations and was very informative as well . http://video.wpt.org/video/2328721025/ -
If you are interested in creating factory stock, find reference photos, but If you are creating a vision, custom car, there is nothing stopping you from painting as you want. This car was a good example of painting a custom chassis/body color combination. I wanted the underside to "POP" so I painted the white chassis to stand out, rather to blend into the background.

Paint Booths & Safe Ventilation?
vypurr59 replied to Synister's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
That was the only thing I was not sure, but I thought that you would need a 12 volt power supply for the bilge pump. Looks like in the photos by the author above, that he converted a computer power supply for that purpose. -
Improved Lighting & Magnification Options?
vypurr59 replied to nitrojunkie's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
You may want to consider getting an Optivisor. Has a light built in, and magnification lenses. I don't know of any magnifying lamps without a cord. http://www.micromark.com/SearchResult.aspx?deptIdFilter=0&searchPhrase=visor the link above takes you to Micro Mark, but these can be purchased in other places as well as craft stores. Just a reference of what I am talking about. I found an OTT Light at a craft store for $29, because it had the flourescent bulb, instead of the new LED equipped models that are now out also, but has no magnifier. Harbor Freight also sells a magnifier that has some alligator clips on it that uses aaa batteries to supply an LED light. The clamps could hold things when painting or gluing as well. http://www.harborfreight.com/catalogsearch/result?q=helping+hand Hope this helps. -

How to make the model sit square on all 4 tires
vypurr59 replied to abelaxe's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
The metal plate I use is a discarded VCR top. Magnets were from Home Depot, and craft stores. I build alot of roll cages so this helps them remain square.
