  1. Don't remember them having 'Hollow' tires. all mine have solid ones! Of course, I never had the Aerodyne COE, so........
  2. Wish I had known some of these had Custom Deluxe trim. At one time I was trying to do a copy of a classmate's 1:1.
  3. Sellers on the 'bay are not always builders/collectors of Models. They Just sell them. Promo's were available through Car dealers are advertising. You could get them Free for a Test drive, (Or even by just asking if you were a Regular Customer) or Buy them for less that $2.oo most of the time. As such, they were not kits, but already assembled and painted (2 tones had the second color painted. Some had the Aluminum/Stainless painted silver. None of them had exterior trim parts other than Fender or Hood ornaments. Side mirrors, fender skirts like on your Bonney, the Side Pipes too, and anything else like that were added to the tooling for the Kits. As for why they tend to be called both interchangeably, look at the chassis of your Bonneville. Notice the 4 screws that connect the chassis to the body. Almost all promo's Still use those, so a seller who does not Know Models like we do will presume that he had a promo and not an Old Kit. Especially if the kit does not have an opening hood and engine (Which None of AMT's had till 1960--and then Not all got them) Look at the re-issue 61 Ford Galaxie, No engine. Many will call it a Promo if found built even if it has a Custom grill, etc MPC still used the screws on Annuals to the 72 year. My Chevy Cheyenne Pickup had 2 through the front of the chassis into mounts that were part of the radiator wall. I believe my 72 Impala still had 2 at the rear of the chassis. I am not sure if my 73 Caprice still had them, but I can check. Checked---- They are not there, but the mounts are still inside the body, the depressions are in the gas tank on the chassis with pins on the inside of it to into those screw bosses. I am not sure what year AMT dropped the screw assembly from Annual kits. But if you look at some of the older re-issues, like the 62 Buick Electra, 64 Comet Caliente, 70 Pontiac Bonneville, The screw assemble is still there. Most likely since these were never re-issued during the time AMT & MPC stopped using them in kits. If all you see is a Body picture of a model, and want to know if it is a kit or promo, just look at the shape. Older Promos will shrink due to the Acetate plastic used for its high gloss shine without painting. AMT changed around 61, but it was not as glossy, so they had to paint the primary color, which lead to them changing again within the year. The Shrinkage is what leads to their Warping. The plastic shrinks more on one side or surface than another and twists, sags, "Smiles", etc show up. I have a Nearly perfect straight 59 Ford wagon promo, that though it has shrunk, it is still Very straight. The interior though is Twisted. Here: After 62 or 63, Promo's will only Warp if Melted. ie left in a clear show case outside in the Bright sun too long or subject to some other heat source hot enough. Kits will too!!! I have Both is that condition (The Mustang promo I bought that way) There is a lot of information about kits versus promo's out there.
  4. Matchbox also offered that Ford with a Fire truck body. Some said they found them in Wally's, but I never saw them there. I did see a Campbell's version in a Tuesday Morning once, but did not get it.
  5. Yes, outside of drilling/cutting the cast in place lens out and replacing them with Clear parts you scratch build or resin cast. Simulating the Translucent white lens is the hardest one to due when they are not cast in clear to start with. Look how many kits have th White back up light cast with the clear red tail light lens.
  6. You can tell a Promo from the Kit by looking at the chassis. A Promo of that Bonneville would not have open space around the engine There was a separate insert of the lower engine detail. It fills the area side to side, only having a little open space between it and the lower front suspension also the hood would not open, and the only outside detail parts would be the fender ornaments. No side mirrors, Custom grill inserts, or the top. That is a Convertible Up top. I have both a restorable though incomplete built, and a promo, so I can help tell the difference
  7. I believe that kit had the 40 Sedan Delivery. I remember a 'Hot-Trucks' set too. And a set with the Display trailer, 88-97 Chevy Stepside 1500 and a Vette Hot-rod.
  8. I had 2 of those WAY back when!! Wish I could find even just SOME of the parts now!! Be nice if they could restore this tooling!!
  9. The Yodel Fury was Not a Grand Fury, but the smaller Fury. Same body style as MPC's Monaco Roscoe's Cruiser, Goon/Gotham, TJ Hooker kits. I just wish they would re-issue them at a Decent price. I have one of th LAPD kits, and would love to add some of the others, But at the Prices I see them listed now..... RecoveryChannel just listed the Original box-art LAPD at $98.oo!! The NY/NJ Transit Yellow one is $120.oo++ !!!!! What happened to those kits?? Did they started putting Gold, Platinum & Diamonds in those boxes????
  10. I have restored promos too. I have a 62 Galaxie convertible that needed the windshield frame header reattached. I drilled it and pinned it using straight-pins. It will stay together now. Had the completely replace the frame on the 63 Sunliner twin to the 62. Used a Prestige kit. Cut out the windshield frame area of the Sportsroof and mounted into the the body of the 63. Also pinned it through the doors & cowl are into the frame. Actually Scratch-built the same area on a 63 Falcon Futura Sport convert. Used a Ranchero as a guide. Traced the frame area, and built it of Evergreen strip, then attached it to the Promo. Would I buy an already modified Promo?? Depends on What it is, condition and PRICE!! If I can fix any damage (If needed) or it looks good, and is one I have been looking for, Yes I would, and Have I got a 58/59 Chevy Apachie Pickup Promo that was Painted I also bought a 61 Bonneville Convertible Brush painted red & Blue Sadly, that one Softened/rubberized when I soaked it in Wesley's to strip the paint in prep for restoration. That is why I have not bothered to try to strip the Pickup. Again, these 2 were Cheap!! The 3 Convertibles above set me back Less than $45.oo Total!!
  11. I'd like to see a Stock version finally. So I will stick with the Revell 1/25 31 Woody(Woodstock) versus this Monogram 1/24 kit

Aurora 1/32 American LaFrance 900 Pumper. Wish the tooling for this was still around. or som eone would reverse engineer it!! Great parts in this one. Built a "California Fire Truck" issue when New. Now have 5 Original Boxes, and parts lots totaling about 6-7 cab/chassis with 5 pumpers Hopeful New Fave. Aoshima/Fujimi LS 1/32 scale Bus series kits Hino S'Elega Super High Decker (I have #1 of this one), Nissan Diesel, Fuso Gala Super High Decker (This is a Cosmetic change of the Hino), Isuzu BXD-30 Bonnet Bus (I have 3 of this bus in 3 different liveries, and 2 different grill trim)
  13. Looks like you could start with either AMT's New tool 66 Riv, or there old tool 69
  14. "rdsxfan" is selling that Bronco on evilbay now. Not sure if they have one Up now, but have listed it, a 67 Satellite/Belvedere Wagon, 62 F-100 Pickup, Short box conversions, and even long boxes for it, 67-72 era Chevy/GMC's and some Ford Pickups. I believe they are the AFX resin.
  15. I would say that is Cheap. Franklin & Danbury in 1/32 would have Started at $195.oo and gone Up!!!! I would compare them to those 2 Mints as Diecast pre-built with that detail. They are Not being marketed as Toys, but Collector Replicas
  16. Could Road, or other 'Work' Crews had them too??
  17. I though I remembered the slightly Lowered vs flat floor on that trailer.
  18. MAke the Deck, then hold it over the cab to determine where the uprights need to go.
  19. Start with measurements of the 2 decks. Length of the upper one will let you know if/how much you need to extend the frame for the front upper deck mount. Look at evergreen "Metal Siding" sheet for the surface of the deck, unless that one, (Or the one you want to do is Diamond Trade-plate) I actually looked at a Roll-back and saw that the deck was "C" channel in staggered position 1 high, the next low, etc running width wise accross the deck. (difference was between 1/2 and 1 inch max)
  20. I want one of these Coca-Cola issues It will go with the Complete AMT series I have
  21. OK. Custom built by owner. And Yes, All Suburban's of the 67-72 era were only 3 doors. No left side rear door. Only on the right side. Use to be one here. Wish I could see it again. Might try to get it!!
  22. I have a 62 Studebaker Lark convertible Promo that needs a new windshield frame. Not sure I want to try that work. I though one reason for the Acetate was the High-Gloss the bodies/parts had without the need of paint Also, isn't thickness a factor in warping?? I have a PMC 59 Ford Country Sedan wagon the though it has Shrunk, is still fairly Straight. The interior has twisted though. Both Hubley 60 Ford wagons I have, have the typical "Smile" effect of warping I have done the Windshield replacement on a 63 Ford convertible promo. I had to add pins to get it to bond well though. Might have to try a better adhesive.
  23. Or likely Never sold to the Public, only Fleet/Service customers does give me an idea though for some of the cabs/kits I have !!!!!
  24. Yea, If you have the artwork, you can scale it to either First movie trailer or second. The mural is the same in both, just on different trailers, and smaller in size on the silver trailer from the second movie. Also, wasn't the trailer in 2 a drop-deck type?? Not a Moving van, but similar??
  25. I have both that Pepsi set, and the Sears pair. Interesting that they were sold as a set, but in taped together separate boxes. Of course, this was the Very first year of production!!! I also have a built K-Mart set. And another unbuilt. I need to dig those out and take some pic's Oh, I painted my Sears set at School in Shop class!!!! Yes with a Brush. They had a light green I though was close!! And Yes, It Is Flat. Not even Semi-glossy!! It was only available through the Christmas/Toys catalog, Not in stores!!!!
