Racer's Wedge question
Edsel-Dan replied to johnbuzzed's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Depends on what you like or want. The Original 71 annual issue of MPC's Chevy pickup that included the Wedge has 2 options. Chrome (reverse) open steel rims or the stock hubcaps You could use the Dodges rims/caps if you have enough, or anything else you like. Open steel are the easiest to find. So many kits had them Lug pattern is something to think about too is they will be seen. Most Open rims are 5 lug, but 6 lugs were likely more accurate on a heavier Pickup like this will represent -
For the "Holiday" hardtop, yes you will need to use the roof from a 62-64 Chevy. You have the 63 & 64 from AMT and all three 62-64 from Revell to choose from. I had plans for one myself(use to be one in the area car club), but the Holiday grill is also different from the Starfire. Backup lights were still just an Option then. The Holiday I photographed did not have them. There is a Pair (Coupe & Convert) of 63 Starfires from a Del. seller on the bay right now for One bid.

The Factory engine color was called "Golden Rod. so Yes the E400 engine came from the factory Yellow!! The E475 was green. I replaced the cast belt with thin rubber strip. "Spider Legs" is one Brand I got. I saw it in that former 'Enthusiast' mag some years ago. What I have is actually for Bow string muffling not fishing tackle as in the mag though. I made my own mounts for the Generator & Power steering pump. Guess I need to get close up pic's of those and the belt. Have to find a friend with a Good camera first though!!

Edsel-Dan replied to mrmike's topic in WIP: Model Cars
And That IS a Revell!!!!! Makes 2 out of 4 known (at least listed here) to be Revell!! I have one of those T-Bolt's too. Wish It could be built as a factory Stock Fairlane though -
My favorite car!! (Can't tell by my name can you??) I have a few of these started! Converting one of this issue to a convertible. Think I have a Ranchero, Villager wagon, and Limo in-progress too!! (I Beat your 'Class of 58' Here!! Class of 58 EDSEL!!!!!!)

1972 Hurst/Oldsmobile Convertible Is Finished!
Edsel-Dan replied to mrmike's topic in WIP: Model Cars
No the ones I listed are not Revell. But This Cutlass Convertible Is and it does have the Transmission separate from the engine I am wondering if that means a different one is coming or even in the other issue of the kit. They Did add the Up top to it. -
1972 Hurst/Oldsmobile Convertible Is Finished!
Edsel-Dan replied to mrmike's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I know of at least 2 others that offer separate Engine & Tranny. AMT's 66 Fairlane GT/GTA has both Manual (GT) & Automatic (GTA) Tranny/s so the Engine & Tranny are separate assembly's. Also the MPC 67-72 GTO's have the Tranny separate from the block. At least all the 67's & 72's I have do. And YES the 2 pc tranny is separate from the engine. Does that mean the other version of this kit has a Different Tranny?? -
Racer's Wedge question
Edsel-Dan replied to johnbuzzed's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The Original used Tandem Singles. Only one of the 2 Model-King kits had that extra axle. For Duallys, you will have to modify both the chassis & Wedge body. Starting with the Dodge kit will make the changes easier. You may need to slightly narrow the rear axle, and either widen the body sides around them, or add Quarter round to cover the exposed tires Duallys would be almost manditory now due to DOT regulations, but back in 71 when this kit came out the Tandem Singles may have been acceptible Most haulers like this I saw back then were Single drive Duallys, not tandems. Also the ramp was more of a full width Deck than the narrow ramps of the kit. -
History of AMT & MPC's Action Line Pickup Kits
Edsel-Dan replied to Fabrux's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
The Cooter's kit was never re-issued. It was in the line up for a while, but never came back. The Yellow/White built box art is the first of this truck to return after the Cooter's kit. And we have been told it is based on 2-3 different sets of tooling. ie; original bed from 72 Annual, cab converted from 72 GMC Shortbox Stepside kit. New Chevy grill, etc. -
Best thing they could do is go back to the 115 inch wheelbase car and put the early-mid 70's body's on them. That would slow them down AND keep them from Lifting into the air like they do now!! 71-4 Road Runner & 71-75 Charger for MoPar, 71-75 Chevelle/Malibu & 75-77 Monte Carlo for Chevy, 77-79 Cutlass, 70-77 T-Bird. You get the idea

AMT 1/43 Scale "TnT Series" Truck & Trailer Kits
Edsel-Dan replied to AzTom's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
I have several of the truck kits too, but they are a completely separate series from the cars we have been discussing. The cars were all tooled up until 69 (Notice the Newest are the "Class-of-69"!!). The Semi trucks did not come out till 72 or 73. I have a Built Sears issue Pete & Fruehauf 40 Beaded van, a K-Mart with the same pair and the Pepsi set with KW 123 COE instead of Pete 359 conventional. Never got the Tow truck! -
I have one of that issue 48 Ford open box, sealed parts and a matching 57 Chevy sealed, though slightly crushed box. The original issued boxes above, including the 6 Customs, all had the clear showcase as part of the kit. The kit parts and instruction were actually inside the showcase. My 69 T-Bird is a mint unbuilt liek that. The 2 lots I got off evilpay included the showcases too. as did the first Custom Camaro I got. It was built unpainted. I have the box from one of my Original issue 69 Mustangs.

Forgot to add this info last night, Some of the tires in Older issued have Goodyear on one side, and Firestone on the other The Firestone side is more Concave (Rounded inward) than the Goodyear side, which is convex. (rounded outward)

I believe it was first offered in an early issue of the 59 El Camino kit. lt might fit the 86 SS, but have not tryed it. You could try it in a PMC 59 Ford Ranchero, but it may be too small for that as it fits the Mid-sized Malibu based El Camino so well. Though the Chevy 59 was also a Full size car. It should fit in the Revell 66 too. and try the AMT 68 SS396 El Camino too Not sure if it might fit the original AMT/SMP 60 El Camino Since the only other Ford Ranchero is the Compact Falcon based 62, I do not think it will fit that one. I can try, as I have a few of them, but do suspect the Camper body will be too large

Ben, I did not mean how many kits. i meant, how many Using 1:1 Engines were made. I see 4 in the wall poster behind the VW & Vette. Those 2 plus the Rail & Dune Buggy. I Think the Dodge Van was also done in that size. I need to find that OLD Dover Downs Program with the pic's of the. Wonder if the Girls with them are the same as in that wall poster

I have several of these too. I have a Sealed Junior Collector series of th e57 Chevyy, and an open box/sealed parts 48 Ford Coupe, I also have those 2 built. I got 2 lots from Yard-Sale-Finds I think that were 3 builts each. I got the GTO in one lot. I have 2 each of the Custom Camaro & Custom Mustang, as well as the stock 68 Firebird. I have lodt count on how many of the 69 Camaro, Chevelle, & Mustag I have. I have one each of the Custom Vette, Cougar, Cuda, Stock 69 T-Bird, Jaguar XKE & 36 Ford. Wish I could find that VW Beetle, And Stock 69 Cougar!! I have several of the Matchbox "Street Magic" kits, and yes, all need the chrome parts Chromed! However, it was the last time the 57 Chevy & 68 Firebird were re-issued.

Maybe they should start re-issuing their OLD 'Matchbox/Hot Wheels' Scael "Mini-Lindy's" kits. I know several of those that start at $10.oo on evilbay. Their 1/32 scale 70's era cars were basically Enlarged Mini-Lindys! Look at the chassis if you have one.It actually reads "Super-Mini-Lindy" on it! I have several of them. Challenger, Cuda, El Camino, Benz SL, Charger, Cordoba, Grand Prix, Omega (Oldsmobile Nova), Grand Am. I can tell you that only the Charger & Cordoba, and Olds Omega are correctly 1/32 scale. The Cuda/Challenger, El Camino and 2 Pontiacs are under size . ALL had the Same tires (Just Like their Pocket size kits did) They Look too large on the Cuda/Challenger etc, but are way Under size on the Charger & Cordoba. The Omega matches Revell's SWAT Nova kit. And like others have said, Take any Lindberg kit with a Grain of Salt. Unless you Kmnow for a Fact it was a NEW Tool After their 53 Ford, it most likely is Not. The 1/32 scale kits are all OLD, The 70's kits ARE Lindberg but From the 70's, thus almost 40 years old! The Older cars, 30's-40's are Pyro/Palmer kits I have Many of those as Originals from the Mid 60's!!!! The 1/20 Gremlin & Vega were New in 72, so again OLD!! At the time Lindberg was not into High Detail, just like many of us were not!! If it looked like the car in our driveway, or next doors, or the parking lot we were happy Yes, They should add the little notice about "this kit is an Older design and may not assemble like our Modern kits" But, Few of us here did not know that the Classic cars they issued were not theirs to begin with not Newly tooled. Most of us realized upon seeing them what they were; Would I like to see them as New tooling, Yes. Will we? I don't know that. If you like the subject, Buy it. If you are worried about what is in the box, Wait for the Review, or ask in the forums, and groups you are a member of before buying. That is what I do. I have one of the x-Pyro/Palmer 1/25 scale 48 Lincolns. I Asked for it in trade Knowing what it was. Would I buy the other 2 like it? Yes If I can. If offered the 1/20 Gremlin would I accept? Yes even though I limit my collection to 1/24-25 and smaller I have a few of MPC's 1/20 Ford Econoline van. so do get larger if it is something I can not find in 1/25. I don't have the AMT re-issue 78 Gremlin yet, and know I could get the Lindberg kit Cheaper. I wish I had found the Police Chargers at Ollie's, but all they had left were the Alabama 97 C-V's

MPC's chassis in their early 70's series was very Generic. It was used under Chevy, Mercury, Plymouth, Dodge, GTO, etc, so does not accurately portray what was under a specific car at the time. The Entire rolling chassis, roll bar assembly, Engine were all identical. Only a few accessories were different between kits. The Petty Plymouth, and Dodges did include head extensions to fit the Hemi Valve cover, and torsion bars fro the front suspension. Even though the Coil springs were still used The Chassis plate was in 2 parts and could be assembled to 3 different lengths, though only 1 kit, the Clear body David Pearson GTO Sportsman car used the Shortest setting. ALL others used the middle setting. Even in th e70's teams took a Factory STOCK car and converted it to race car.
