Models in Grocery Stores ?
foxbat426 replied to TooOld's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Model cars are making a comeback it seems - great news. I need to start checking my local stores again. My wal-mart discountinued them about two years ago - i was pissed. I couldn't understand why because there were always hobbiests there checking them out with me - they moved a lot of models and testors paint. -
I used the Badger 250 on may last paint job and it worked great, i wonder how much more the Paasche H buys me?? with the 40% discount coupon at Michaels i picked it up for 16 bucks?? The nice thing about this brush is that clean-up is a breeze.

Does modeling affect your purchase of a car?
foxbat426 replied to SSNJim's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)

Suggestions on painting an interior tub?
foxbat426 replied to foxbat426's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I think I'm over analyzing this one blaze - i might just spray the interior iwhite and be done with - tubs don't give much room for detailing it seems. by the way, what type of paint do you usually paint the interiors with - i find enamels get gloppy with a brush, of course you can thin them. THX -
Suggestions on painting an interior tub?
foxbat426 replied to foxbat426's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Thx Blaze - i'm just getting painting a shell down, now I want to play around more with interiors. Instead of spraying the whole thing on the inside one interior color, what if I want the console one color, the florr another and the back seats, which are connected to the tub another color. Then i have to use the brush right?? -
I'm building a 69 GTO. It is setup a bit different from the two other models i've built. This one has a "tub" and the interior gets painted one color and the outside of the tub gets painted Flat black according to the instructions. At first I sprayed the outside the flat black and then I handbrushed the interior Gloss white, as that was the color I thought I wanted for the interior. I've come to realize that i have to air brush it as it got way too messy painting it with a brush. I just stripped the whole tub and am ready to paint again. So my question is how would you handle painting this? I know it might sound like a dumb question, but i'm guessing I mask the interior side as best i can, spray the exterior with the flat black, then visa versa with the interior color I choose.

Tastes change ...... ?
foxbat426 replied to Jantrix's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Same here, before i even got into this hobby i started buying late 60's early 70's muscle cars - i always loved model cars and knew i would get into building one day. after I started building and saw some of the 40's and 50's works of art on here i was like WOW those are beautiful. now i'm buying 65 park lanes, 59 impalas and 63 starliners etc etc. I have my eyes on hudson hornets now and model T's and older Mercury's. I remember these cars parked in the city street when I was a kid. Back in the day when you could tell a chevy from a ford from a chrysler etc., I could name them all, including the model, my old man was so impressed - I think it has something to do childhood and nostalgia as you get older. you want to bring back the "good ole days" john -
proper way to blackwash chrome grill
foxbat426 replied to foxbat426's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Thanks guys!! Sounds easier than I imagined for sure - I didn't realize the paint would come off the chrome that easy - Glad I made you chuckle!! Hope you both had a great 4th. Thanks again! John -
Hi, was wondering what the proper way to "blackwash" a chrome grill is. What kind of paint should i use, technique etc.?? - it looks like you only get one shot at this. my last build a 71 duster somebody mentioned i should black wash the grill. I'm doing a 69 GTO and looked at some finished models and must admit it adds something when the chrome is blackwashed. Thanks, john

Airbrush - paasche or badger?
foxbat426 replied to foxbat426's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Thanks Chief! I like the feel of the lighter plastic Badger vs the metal Paasche. I just might settle for the Paasche though since it does come with all 3 tips. You're right I can't find the Badger 350 with all 3 tips either. Thanks for clearing that up buddy. happy 4th! john -
Airbrush - paasche or badger?
foxbat426 replied to foxbat426's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Hi, I was thinking about picking up a Badger 350. My question is does it have different spray heads like the Paasche H? Or is there one spray head that's adjustable?? The Paasche H comes with 3 different heads in a set, a 1, 3 and 5 I think, the 5 being the heaviest. I can't find a Badger 350 that comes with all 3 spray heads, if in fact that's the case. Thx and Happy 4th! John -
Oven cleaner never worked great for me. before you strip it - is it that bad???
-
Actually harbor freight sells two plastic air brushes. one is a piece of junk and its a rip-off of the badger 350, stay away from that one - they sell another plastic one called the Central Pnuematic Quick Change Airbrush, which is actually very good - it's a lot like the Badger 250. its a bit heavy on the spray so you have to turn down your PSI, but its a good airbrush. I think i paid 5 bucks for the whole set-up. It looks more like the testors aztek AB than a regular airbrush. Also the plastic jars it comes with will have to be replaced by glass ones evenyually, unless your spraying with acrylics. The 1 gallon pancake Compressor i had sucked, i had two and they both leaked. I then bought their mini air compressor 1/5 HP,. I fitted it with a good regulator and it comes with a metal double air brush in the kit. Great set-up!

Final wax job, or should I?
foxbat426 replied to Agent G's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Jon, I'll make a note of that - carnauba wax, I use that on my pinball machines - i'll give it a shot -
Final wax job, or should I?
foxbat426 replied to Agent G's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I tried wax on my last build a 71 duster - it was gloss yellow already and pretty shiney - the wax did help bring the shine out even more. give it a shot - -
Need an opinion...
foxbat426 replied to SuperStockAndy's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Thats what i do Andy - to keep things simple I just stick with Box Stock. I'm on my third build and don't see a need to complicate things. I'm happy at this time keeping my models looking just like the one on the box. This is a great forum - i'm learning a ton here. By the way the Camaro looks awesome! That's a Laquer right?? John -
how much paint and clear per model?
foxbat426 replied to foxbat426's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Looks like I've been using too much - maybe i need a new airbrush or maybe i'm pushing the wet coats too much - i just finished a GTO, I think it came out really nice and it still has to "tighten up", but you do lose detail. I just can't seem to get a good paint job with so little paint. -
how much paint and clear per model?
foxbat426 posted a topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I'm on my third build, a 69 GTO - my question is how much paint and clearcoat in lets say ounces should one be using on 1 - 1/25th scale model. Also How many models should one small can of testors spray paint or clearcoat cover?? I'm using an airbrush, but somehow I feel i'm using too much. -
I love it! I don't know what the problem is with the kit, but it looks great.

I'm asking this after the fact. About 1 week ago I accidentally put a piece of scotch tape over a pinstrip decal to hold an engine part in place, The next day when I took off the tape, some of the pinstriping decal came off with the tape. I was able to get a new decal and put the whole new pinstrip decal over the old one - it matched up nearly perfect and looks good. They are so thin you can't even tell there are 2 pinsripes, one on top of the other. My question is should I have taken the old decal off first and then layed down the new decal?? Is there a way to get old water slide decals off with out screwing up the paint? john
