Some people are just way too intense!

Is there an actual point to this thread? -
There are dozens of places to get them from. Here's one: http://www.dickblick.com/products/soft-white-cotton-gloves/?wmcp=google&wmcid=products&wmckw=04701-1004&gclid=CMjBzMmWxasCFaYDQAodFGZ_0A

Mine too. And I still have it (but haven't used it in over 30 years!) I like digital film better... it's a lot cheaper! -

1:18 Maisto Diecast 1963 Dodge Dart getting a once-over
Harry P. replied to Junkman's topic in Diecast Corner
That's right, in the 60s and 70s full wheel covers were almost always either optional or only available on the more upscale models. Remember, back in those days cars didn't come with all the bells and whistles standard, like we're accustomed to now. My dad owned a '67 Belvedere I, the base model. It had textured rubber on the floor, not carpet. And dog dish hubcaps. That's how cars came back in the day... things like AC and carpeting and even a radio were usually optional. And cupholders? What's that??? -

I like reworking diecasts, too. I do it all the time! It'll be interesting to see how yours turns out. -
The Hornet's Nest: Hudson Hornet Build Madness!
Harry P. replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in Community Builds
There are no men wearing green eyeshades in a back room, sworn to secrecy, sitting in front of a large ledger book entering your bank transactions with a quill pen where your personal information will be known only to them. If you have a bank account (or a credit card), the information that you are so afraid will get out to evildoers if you shop online is already out there! May as well join the rest of us in the 21st century and enjoy the convenience and selection that online shopping brings you. Just sayin'... True enough. Case closed. -

Your information is already in more electronic databases all over the world than you ever imagined, whether you ever shopped online or not. Sorry if I sounded sarcastic, but I'm always amazed when someone in this day and age still thinks that shopping online places him or her "at risk" somehow, when the fact is that your name, SSN, address, medical, credit and criminal (if any) history, along with information regarding your driver's license, credit cards, bank accounts, work history, voting history, etc., etc., etc., is already out there! Shopping online isn't going to subject you to any more "risk" than if you go to the store and write a check or swipe your card at the register! -

So... what exactly do you hate the most about online shopping? Is it the convenience (open 24/7/365)? Is it the fact that you can find the lowest price for what you want just about instantly? Is it the fact that no matter what you are looking for, someone out there has it in stock? Is it the fact that the stuff comes right to your door? Just curious about which aspect of online shopping offends you the most... -
Photography questions

I assume you already know this, but obviously when shooting at slower shutter speeds you'll want to be on a tripod. Trying to hold a camera perfectly still while shooting at slow shutter speeds is almost impossible. Slow shutter speeds = tripod. Hey! My college photography classes are finally paying off! -

Harry P. replied to lowriderphil's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
If you're shooting a still subject like a model car, shutter speed is a non-issue. You're not trying to capture a moving subject, so you don't need a fast shutter speed. As long as you are stopped down to get maximum depth of field, the shutter speed can be as long as needed to get a good exposure (I assume that either your camera has a built-in light meter or you're using a hand-held one). The film's speed is also a non-issue when you're shooting a still subject. Use whatever speed film you like and adjust your shutter speed as needed. -
Two guys are camping in the wilderness, when suddenly out jumps a rattlesnake and bites one of the guys right on the butt. "Don't panic!," says the other guy. "I'll run into town to the doctor's office and ask him what to do. You just lie down and relax until I get back." So the guy runs to the doctor's office and asks the doctor what to do. "Don't worry," replies the doctor. "Your friend will be ok. What you have to do is use a pocketknife and cut a small X over the puncture wound and then suck out the poison and spit it out. As long as you don't swallow it you'll be ok, too." So the guy runs back to the other guy waiting for him back in the woods. "Well?," asks the other guy. "What did the doctor say?" "He said you're going to die."

Anybody having problems with photobucket
Harry P. replied to gray07's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
You can use whichever browser you want. Personally I use Firefox. And yes, click on the link that says "Download" or "Download Now" or whatever. Then after it downloads to your computer, you have to actually install it into your computer's hard drive. Some will start the installation process automatically, with others you'll have to double click on the icon. Either way, once the installation process begins just follow the instructions. -
A catholic boy goes into confession. "Bless me father, for I have sinned. I've had impure thoughts." The priest replies, "Was it the butcher's daughter Mary Francis?" "No," said the boy. The priest replied, "Was it the baker's daughter Catherine Elizabeth?" "No," said the boy. Exasperated, the priest replied, "Well, then... was it the tailor's daughter Donna Marie?" The boy replied, "Sorry, father, but I can't say who it was." The priest replied, "Well son, you give me no choice. You must recite 10 Our Fathers and 10 Hail Marys." The boy walks out of church, where his buddies were waiting for him. "So? How did it go?," asked one of his friends. "Not too bad," replied the boy. I got 10 Our Fathers and 10 Hail Marys, but I also got three great leads!"

I'm not talking about the "average Chinese worker," I'm talking about Trumpeter the company. Not some schmo working in their plant, but the people in charge of R&D. Just as I wouldn't expect Joe Smith who works the second shift at Revell (assuming they had a second shift!) to be in charge of "getting it right," but Revell the company. The people in charge.

Harry P. replied to Gregg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Just to reinforce what Gregg just said... We have decided to accept paid advertising on the Model Cars forum, and this is why: FACT 1: You guys like the forum. If you didn't like it you wouldn't be here. FACT 2: It costs money to operate this site and provide the forum to you. FACT 3: The members would prefer this site to remain FREE to them. Add up facts 1, 2 and 3 and the reason that we have decided to accept paid advertising is obvious. The forum has grown. As membership has steadily increased, we have had to upgrade to larger servers several times... and the costs to keep the site up and running has steadily increased as our technology needs have increased, to the point where the actual cost of operation has become significant enough that we can no longer keep covering the cost without help from some outside revenue. Given the situation, we had two basic choices: Either accept paid ads, or charge a fee to be a forum member. We chose to accept paid advertising. Obviously, ads benefit the advertiser, as their product or service is given daily exposure on the site. The revenue generated by ad sales benefits us by helping to offset the forum's operating costs, and finally, by accepting paid advertising, you members also benefit because we can keep providing the forum to you AT NO CHARGE. It's a win-win-win situation. The advertisers benefit, the forum benefits, and you members benefit. By keeping the site's operating expenses under control, we can continue our online ohana for a long time to come. -
paint stripper question of sorts
Harry P. replied to lowriderphil's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
You're right, in this case it's probably easier to just remake the case from scratch than strip and refinish the existing one. -
I would need step-by-step photos. Or at least better photos of the finished product.
