  1. You're right Brodie, this is a great kit. I look forward to seeing your version of Troy's car.
  2. Like what has been said by most of the posters here, I will check during test fitting for what areas are visible, and those are what I'll paint. Usually just the outer wheel wells, the engine/front end area of the top surface of the chassis, and the outside top edges of the interior buckets or door panels, which I will paint the same color as the tops of the door panels in case there is a gap between the door panels and the body. I also usually paint the interior headliner to match the interior color scheme after sanding the ejector pin marks and adding visors, rear view mirror, and courtesy lights where there are none.
  3. I've been using a roll top desk down in my basement for years and am very happy with it. Everything I need as far as tools and jar paints are within arms reach along with plenty of storage in the drawers. Here's a picture of it from a few years ago...
  4. That's a great looking Hot Rod Jim.
  5. I've had good results using both Tamiya and Duplicolor Black paint with a clearcoat, then polishing it out.. Smooth prep work is essential for a nice, smooth finish because Black will show any waviness and/or imperfections in the bodywork. I've also had good results using Duplicolor Black Primer under Duplicolor clearcoat and polished.
  6. Thanks Dave. This is a Curbside model so it won't have any engine or chassis detailing. For the past year or so I've been building several curbside models and then throw in a full detail kit now and then just to keep up my detailing skills. The curbside builds obviously go much quicker.
  7. I just got a very disturbing and sad email from a fellow LIARS Club member, that the upcoming MassCar Show on March 15, 2015 will be their LAST SHOW...!!!!!! They state that they have no plans to host any further shows after this one. They want to get back to basics in their club without the hassles and responsibilities involved with running a show. I have so many fabulous memories of good times while attending the MassCar club's show on a yearly basis before I moved to western PA. This show will truly be missed by many modelers.
  8. Thanks a bunch Tom. You'll be seeing it in person soon .
  9. Thanks guys. Martin, I thank you for the offer, but I think I've gotten all of the reference pictures I'll need from Googled images.
  10. Thank you very much guys, I really appreciate your kind comments.
  11. After repainting the hood with a new can of Tangelo Pearl paint from Black Gold, happily there was NO shade difference in the paint. It was clearcoated and polished and voila...... This model is finally finished. Here are the pictures with the hood in place. Thanks to all for looking in on this project, it was a lot of fun for me.
  12. Thanks a lot Tommy. I polished up the repainted and cleared hood while watching the disappointing Seahawks loss last night. I'll be posting updated pictures with the finished hood later today.
  13. Nothing new to show yet Dave. I'll be painting the body today with Tamiya Pure White, and then getting the interior parts out of the stripper tub and washed up.
  14. Yeah, I like those colors Todd.
  15. Thanks for all the kind comments fellas. Dave, you'll have to wait for Christmas...LOL . Jeff, I look forward to seeing you again at Castle Shannon in March at the South Hills Show.
  16. Thanks again for the info Steve. Tom, I'd be interested in seeing what you would do to customize this already custom-looking car.
  17. Thanks for the helpful suggestions Steve. The few times I've done the foil-under paint technique I've been successful (so far) in using either 6000 or 8000 grit polishing cloths to take the primer/paint/clearcoat off of the scripts. I fold the polishing cloths and use my Optivisor magnifiers and carefully and slowly take the paint off of the raised scripts. I guess I've been lucky so far..!! Do you "dry brush" using thinner when you do it??
  18. Great looking car Niko, I like the color a lot. Nice job.
  19. Very cute little vehicle. For some strange reason I can see one of those little Minions driving one of these.
  20. Thanks Tom, and yes I noticed that about the underside of the fins. I was debating whether to try scribing straight lines using 2 XActo blades (one higher than the other as a guide along the edge of the fin with a plastic spacer between them), or, to try to cut straight lines on the BMF without scribing on the underside. We'll see!! Thanks very much for the vote of confidence Ron, I appreciate it.
  21. Bill, I get lucky by being patient and searching through EBAY regularly for the cars I need for each year of the 50's. So far I've got every car from 1959 except for the Vette and T-Bird...... but I'll eventually find them for the price I'm willing to pay.
  22. Thanks very much Joe. Wow, 5 thumbs up...!!!!!
  23. This is gonna be a "killer" model Art. We'll all be watching.
  24. Thanks guys. The styling of this car just screams CUSTOM exactly the way it is, It doesn't need any modifications. Although I do think it will look good with wire wheels. Foiling this car should be a LOT of fun. Sure it will...... In researching this car for Google reference pictures I see that the vent windows had cranks...... Now I'll get to use a couple of those tiny little resin vent window cranks from Norm Veber along with the other cranks and handles.
  25. Thanks guys... Is that a good or bad Hmmmmm!!!!!! Ron..??
