1937 Ford Pickup By Revell
Bugatti Fan replied to Zippi's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Nice model. Does the kit allow it to be built stock also? -
Holloway House. Quick Shine Multi Surface Finish.
Bugatti Fan replied to Bugatti Fan's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
You're right about the auto correct Pete. It's a bit annoying at times but quite amusing when it changes what you have typed into some random word that is totally irrelevant. Back to the Holloway House product. Has anybody used it like the old Klear and can comment? -
This is looking better and better Mark. A last GSL overall winner perhaps?

A cool looking VW.

Fisher Body Craftsman's Guild
Bugatti Fan replied to Oldcarfan27's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thanks for the historical background on Pressed Steel Fisher Matt. I worked for a company named Prestcold for nine years that was a subsidiary of Pressed Steel Fisher. I got the Fisher bit wrong and your post jogged my memory about the Fisher Ludlow connection from all those years ago. -
Fisher Body Craftsman's Guild
Bugatti Fan replied to Oldcarfan27's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
A number of years ago in the UK there was a company named Pressed Steel Fisher that produced car bodies at Cowley near Oxford. Seeing the name Fisher in it suggests a connection to Fisher in the USA. It stood next door to the Morris Car Factory. Both have since been acquired by BMW and now produce the new Minis. -
We all like our specialist materials, but HL I guess like any other business does not like to have very slow moving items being money tied up in stock that does not shift. If it gets discounted to clear it, then buy it while you can.

I guess that they have all long gone. Maybe some resin caster might see the cult following of these kits and do copies, or maybe scan them to make 3D printed parts? A guy in Australia did resins of the old Monogram Uncertain T and made moulds using original kit parts as patterns.

Anybody know what happened to the Renwall Revivals moulds? Did Revell acquire them originally along with other Renwall moulds and it so, were they sold on to someone else like Atlantis?
-
Thanks guys. Sounds like HL is similar to our Hobbycraft in a number of respects. Our stores do not well furniture or decorating materials, just craft, art and Bobby stuff.

I keep seeing Hobby Lobby being referred to. Is it a general craft store that stocks various crafters items, artists supplies and model making stuff? I sort of picture of as being similar to a group of shops in the UK named Hobbycraft. They stock a limited range of kits, paints and modelling tools as part of their general crafts and hobbies merchandise.I Mark's post about local meeting him half way. I can see where he is coming from with his own viewpoint, not wanting to pay 5 bucks over the odds. However, one has to consider the overheads that a LMS has. Rent, business rates, salaries, utility bills, money tied up in stock until it sells and so on. So every kit delivered to your door from a possibly semi automated warehouse is just another nail in the coffin that is (was) a local hobby shop.

Engine-Turning Aluminum
Bugatti Fan replied to Straightliner59's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
End mill and slot drill bits have a squared off end unlike a normal drill bit. Lightly bringing them just to touch down gently onto aluminium sheet does work ok having done this a few times. It does take a bit of practice to get a feel for the very slight pressure that needs to be applied for consistency. An X Y table is very good to use for this type of work for consistent spacing of the marks made. -
Engine-Turning Aluminum

Small diameter slot drills or end mills are very good for this type of work. Engineering suppliers should have them in stock. -
All those people who bemoan the demise of the local model shop but think nothing of going on line instead just to save a few pennies! I expect this has already been said in this irks thread, but I make no excuse for saying it again. Your LMS. Use it or lose it!

Maserati 300S Chassis #3055

Gorgeous model! -
There are so many leisure boaters who just get a boat and go onto the water without any proper guidance of training about sailing in the vicinity of much bigger craft. We see the same sort of thing on the roads where car drivers do not allow big trucks due attention when it comes to either braking, or not allowing for articulated trucks swinging out to allow for the trailer taking the short cut when cornering.

Bugatti re-build.
Bugatti Fan replied to PatW's topic in All The Rest: Motorcycles, Aviation, Military, Sci-Fi, Figures
When I saw the heading 'Bugatti Rebuild' my interest was piqued, expecting to see a restored model. Came as a bit of a surprise to see something looking like a post apocalyptic vehicle made from it instead! Nice model though Pat. -
1939 Ford Towtruck
Bugatti Fan replied to Nosferatu's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Really nice project. Vintage commercials have an appeal all of the own! Following with interest. -
Sean, logistically the biggest threat to the environment is world human over population using up finite resources. In ecological terms, we like any other species will become extinct. The question being will it be sooner or later, hence the environmental issues. On a geological timescale humans have been on the planet for the blink of an eye. If the human race becomes extinct, and it will in less than a couple of thousand years at the rate we are going, the planet will sort itself out afterwards. Environmentalists can bang on about 'saving the planet' , but really are they thinking more in terms of humans being able to continue on ad infinitum in a coexistence with other species that we are already losing at an alarming rate. So, believe it or not, I am well aware of current environmental issues, but can see what will happen in the long term.

Keyser, reckon you are right about burning sprues being a joke by Sean. Looking at your location. Anglesey? Yea right! Another joke? Might have been more believable if your name was Glynn Evans. LOL

Louverit's connection does not appear to be secure when I tried to look at it.

Pin strips and Photo Etch
Bugatti Fan replied to Perspect Scale Modelworks's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Photo etching in the trade is named chemical milling. There are companies out there that specialise but will require the artwork generally to be supplied as a 2D Cad file or ready to use. -
Burning sprues? Would it not be worse than going into landfill due to the toxins given off going into the atmosphere? Like I said before, unless it can go into the domestic recycling bin it is just impracticable at this point in time.
