  1. Airfix/Hornby under the Pocher name will be releasng a 1/8th scale Lotus 72 John Player Special Formula 1 Racing Car Kit this year. I think it may be one that Emerson Fittipaldi may have driven. One for F1 enthusiasts to look out for, especially super detailing modellers.
  2. Edited my last post. Screw years back should read some years back. My tablet changes words frequently and I don't always spot it.I Les, thanks for the feed back, I will have to look around a bit and see if I come across some Pledge with Super Shine. Forgot to mention in my opening post that the Holloway House Quick Shine Multi Surface Finish is sold by Lakeland in the UK. Look for the one in the green labelled carton.
  3. I am on the last knockings of a bottle of Klear that I bought when it was available some years back in the UK. The fact that it became discontinued at the time bypassed me or I would have laid a bit of stock in!. There must be a number of floor finishing products that are similar to Klear/Future/Revive It on the market. My guess is that when Klear was discovered as a cheap good modelling product, everyone and their dog latched on to it and did not look at anything else.
  4. Kurt, I thought that it might be a PCB jig. Thanks for confirming and for where to look on the web.
  5. Just shows what can be done with a kit of very old vintage originally made by Merit in the UK along with their Alfetta.
  6. Kurt, your model is coming along amazingly well. Your subtle customising of a classic Merc looks good. I was intrigued by the spring loaded work holder that was holding the chassis underpinnings to your model. Is it a PCB rotating holder or something else that you adapted? It's just like having an extra pair of hands on your worktop!
  7. Has anyone used Holloway House Brand. Quick Shine Multi Surface Finish product, the one in the green labelled plastic bottle? I read somewhere that it is an effective substitute for Johnson's Klear. If any of you guys out there has one lurking in a kitchen or utility room cupboard can you try it out and post your findings on here. I can get it in the UK but as it is very expensive at about £15 per bottle so would like to know a bit more about it. Looking at the Flory Models website the guy doing the You Tube video says that there is a new clear Johnson's product similar to Klear, but it is only available in the US and Canada.
  8. Benefits freeloaders! Plenty also here in the UK. They do the maths and if working and paying taxes equates to less than the benefits received then it is a no brainer. Why bother to get up in the morning if the state pays you more to be idle? Irks me and other tax payers to fund their sedentary life style choice!
  9. Saw some of the Klear racketeering prices on Ebay......ridiculous! Came across Flory Models Utube video where Klear and newer alternatives are being compared. The guy in the video is comparing a new clear Johnson's product that is only available in the States as a very good replacement for Klear. Anybody tried any other acrylic floor products other than any of the Johnson's brands. If so, what are they named and who made by, and how did they perform? I'm talking about commercial floor coatings that will do the same as Klear, not dedicated modelling clear coatings.
  10. Guys, is Revive It still on the shelves in the USA? Impossible to get here in the UK. Has it gone the way of Klear? Assuming that no Johnson's similar products are now available can you guys suggest viable alternatives from other manufacturers. I'm not talking about dedicated modelling materials here, but a commercial floor product similar to Klear, Future, Revive It. Suggestions welcome.
  11. A very nice die cast model. That particular Studebaker looked very European in styling compared with most of the contemporary American Fins and Chrome monsters from that era.
  12. I wonder if Bella will move on to become an air brush artist on full size customs? Certainly showing the talent!
  13. Will this model be going to the Vaillant boiler company's head office for in Germany for display I wonder? Joking apart this is a lovely model taking shape. They say the devil is in the detail and there is plenty in this build. Superb!
  14. Never tried any Scale Finishes products as not aware of any UK distributor. As far as primer goes, I have always used aerosol automotive acrylic primer that always works well for me on my models, so I don't feel the need to faff about with primers through an airbrush.
  15. Taking shape wel!. It is nice to see older classic racing cars being the basis of a super detailed model. The Delage is a very nice looking car and no wonder this build is prompting loads of posts. The detail work can only be described as stunning! It would be interesting to see what Andrew could do with the Monogram Bugatti 35B kit. That Call'graphe decal sheet has some very unusual car badges on it. I have one that I bought years ago and the quality is very good.
  16. Geoffrey, those old Jo Han kits are a bit challenging. I would suggest it you are new to the hobby, put it to one side and have a go at some more up to date kits to develop your skills first, and have a go at the Mercedes when you feel ready.
  17. Some interesting comments guys. I think someone mentioned older car colours being difficult to source. Not sure if this is quite true as recently I looked up an automotive paint specialist here in the UK who could supply.me with an aerosol 1960's Porsche colour for £14.00 (equivalent to about 18 to 20 dollars I'm guessing). Another mention was made about this being expensive to spray one model. Depends on the scale of course, but would imagine the poster in question had a 1/24 or 1/25 body in mind although he did not say. In which case, maybe so. Scale finish! The human eye is forgiving when looking at a model as your mind compensates but the camera is not. Overscale Metallica have already been mentioned. I have seen beautifully polished 1/43rd scale models but when photographed look as though they have a 6 inch coat of Dyna Glaze in scale. A real scale finish would look dull to the eye on a table however.
  18. At 0.0015 this new foil is still very, very thin material it has to be said although 3 times thicker than Bare Metal Foil. Like previous posters mentioned, all different thicknesses of aluminium foil will have their uses on our models. It is a case of horses for courses depending on the area of application needed.
  19. Not seen any activity from Virgil on here for a long time. Any idea what he is up to, anyone? Has he got another book on the go or something?
  20. Alan, you say you are looking for a Mercer Raceabout to compliment your Aurora Stutz. Were you aware that Bandai produced a 1/16th scale kit back in the 70's? Maybe worth a look on Ebay?
  21. Being 1.5 times thicker than BMF should be a bit more forgiving when applying. Sorry, bad arithmetic on my part. 3 times thicker as Peter has pointed out in a later post.
  22. Another way of getting matching automotive paint finishes is go to a supplier of automotive paints. Many have the facility to produce acrylic aerosol paints mixed to manufacturer's specification. Good for plain colours only as metallics will be well over scale on a model, unless of course looking for a scale metalflake finish.
  23. Bill, the 3D printed wire wheels by Randy Ditton that you mentioned are something I was unaware of. Will have to look and see if he has a website. The Lindberg and Revell Jaguar disc wheels do look nice. Had both kits at some time but sold them on.
  24. Those diecasts by Burago and others lend themselves to some rebuild/restoration work. At the cheaper end the wheels and tyres always look to be a compromise though.
