  1. If you put lacquer clear over enamel you run the risk of the clear cracking. Don't ask me how I know this. I am assuming this is due to the enamel continuing to gas out.
  2. Well done everyone. Good job.
  3. You do know Tex Smith now lives (at least part of the year) down here now? So it was sort of relevant. Nice mix of cars. I like it better when we have a theme. Helps me decide.
  4. And always do it at work so someone else pays for the paper and toner...
  5. This book is worth a look. It has a run down of Roths career plus a fairly detailed look at his cars.
  6. You're overthinking it Gene. Use a paintbrush.
  7. XR6 roadster. That'll be one of these with a soft top. I'm in. '75 Buick Skyhawk.
  8. I think Jaymar bodies are just resin - no cloth.
  9. Revell 5.0 Ford from the '32 Fords fits into the Revell '49 Merc like it was meant to be there.
  10. Nice and tall. That's the problem with using ferrules, they are a bit short.
  11. That's the Beatnik Bandit. Question was about the Outlaw.
  12. Bump
  13. From what i've heard it's the other way round. The low quality levels are in the US made cars that get exported. Every time Top Gear test anything American Clarkson always comments on the cheap feel of the interior and how badly the interior panels fit.
  14. Don't forget to pack it all properly. I ask sellers to open the box and stuff some packing inside if there is room to stop bits rattling around. A wise man once told me "if you can't throw it down a flight of stairs without breaking it then it isn't packed right".
  15. I'm thinking the solvents present in paint might be an issue.
  16. Probably 12 or 14 AWG but without actually having had any in my hands to measure I couldn't be absolutely sure. I'd guess those stacks would be 2 1/2 inch diameter meaning you want 2 1/2mm inside diameter ferrules. If you can get them from an actual store (rather than the interweb) then you have the luxury of being able to take a ruler with you to measure them before you buy them.
  17. Bump
  18. Good job Tom. I just knew at least one person would point out your "mistake" even though you mention in your post it's a gag. But then I've long suspected that reading before posting is going out of fashion...
  19. Best way to cut them down is to find a rod that will fit snugly inside them and then using a block so as not to crush the flare roll a knife backwards and forwards at the point where you want to cut. I knew there were other sizes Bill. I just didn't want someone to click and order without checking the size. I just got a bag of 10AWG delivered and they are 3mm internal diameter not 2 1/2 as I state above (which I calculated from a wire sizing chart that gave the cross sectional area of various size wire). Obviously there's a bit of slack allowed for an easy fit over the wire.
  20. Good tip Bill. Thanks. These ferrules are available in Australia from RS Components at $12 for 100. https://australia.rs-online.com/web/p/crimp-bootlace-ferrules/2114325/?searchTerm=211-4325&relevancy-data=636F3D3126696E3D4931384E525353746F636B4E756D6265724D504E266C753D656E266D6D3D6D61746368616C6C26706D3D5E5C647B337D5B5C732D2F255C2E2C5D5C647B332C347D2426706F3D313426736E3D592673743D52535F53544F434B5F4E554D424552267573743D3231312D343332352677633D4E4F4E4526 One thing though. If you follow Bills link it takes you to the page for 18 AWG ferrules. These are just over 1mm in diameter (1" in 1/25) which seems small to me. For 2mm (scale 2") diameter stacks order 12 AWG ferrules or for 2 1/2mm (scale 2 1/2") order 10 AWG.
  21. I got clear red sheet for a '50 Chevy gasser from an old VCR. I've tried tinting kit "glass" with clear paints and candys but by the time I get enough costs on to give the required colour depth the opacity is down by too much.
  22. Why use not tap water? Just wondering...
  23. Not a man-made one. But it does look a bit like the sort of hive bees would make inthe wild. The sort that frequently drops on the protagonists head in cartoons.
  24. Have you tried ordering from their website? http://www.deluxematerials.com
