  4. James sent me one of these with some decals I was after (thanks mate) and they really do look the mutts nuts. I just haven't built anything recently that'll do it justice.
  5. Print your decals on the clear and also print a plain backing on the white. The backing is basically a box the same size as the design with nothing in it but with a border to cut round. Cut inside the line and the backing will end up smaller than the design by twice the line thickness. Put on the backing and then put on the design printed on the clear. If you position it centrally it will overlap enough on all sides to cover the white edge. Of course you will have 2 thicknesses of decal film but you won't have a visible white stripe. With white decal paper I find I can also have a problem with the decal water getting under the decal bonder at the cut edges and washing off some of the ink. If you use a white backing and also leave a thin strip of clear when you cut out the design then this is also avoided (but of course you'll have double thickness AND a thin edge - but no shonky looking white bits. You decide).
  6. Hey Jant. I use Micro$oft Powerpoint. It's not free (far from it) but chances are you already have it. If what you want to do is more along the lines of sponsorship stickers and names than graphics and artwork then IMO it's all you'll need.

  8. So if you are looking for a specific engine you need a list sorted by engine not by kit or by subject. Surely it is more likely that some one will think "where can I get..." than they'll think "I wonder what engines that kit comes with..."?
  9. But with the reissue you can't fill the box with old sprues, reseal it and sell it to a collector in the knowledge that you'll probably get away with it...
  10. Many light coats or fewer heavy ones? It's happened to me a couple of times. You take extra care to ensure the plastic colour doesn't show through. You think you've got away with so you relax and go too heavy with the clear and BANG, it's bath time.

I suspect the builders owners of the pigeon BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH welded "vehicles" care very much what all onlookers think about the "welding". That's why it's there. It's like a DILLIGAF sticker. If you really don't GAF about what people think you don't need a sticker to announce the fact.

  15. Revell '68 Charger has both a 440 Magnum and a 426 Hemi. Revell Hemi Dart has both a 440 Magnum and a 426 Hemi. IMC/Testors '48 Ford convertible has a Ford Flathead V8 and a rather undersized Ford Cammer with carbies or injection. AMT 33 Willys Van has a supercharged Ford Cammer with a chunk missing from the top of the gearbox for frame clearance. AMT "Old Mould" '57 Chevrolet has a carburetted Small Block Chevy and a S.C.o.T. supercharged "W" motor with sidedraft carburetters and an enclosed blower drive. Both engines have holes through the sump but it's worth picking up a cheap copy of the kit (and there are plenty out there) for the blower. AMT '70 Chevy Monte Carlo has a stock 454 Big Block Chevy with absolutely no tuning parts. Revell '69 'vette has a (I want to say) 427 Big Block Chevy with tripower. Revell '59 Impala has a 348 W motor with tripower. AMT '62 Impala has a 348/409 W motor. Buy the convertible for the engine as it has all the optional parts in the one box. Apologies if i've repeated what anyone has said earlier but i'm typing on page 2 and it's a pain to go back and look whats on the list. Not all Lindberg '64 Dodges and Plymouths have a slant 6. The Super Stock (or Super Sport if you have one of the incorrectly printed boxes) Dodge 330s have a 426(?) Max Wedge or a 426 Hemi depending on which version. The "Old 53 F100" listed is more acurately described as the AMT Trophy Series kit.

  17. Hey Dave. How they hangin? Folks, you're all doing well. I'm nearly finished but based on previous years something will come up which will delay completion until the last minute. Next year? Well I did just get given a Revell Trabant...
  18. I take builds to 2 or 3 NNLs a year. I won't take the same build to the same show twice and I won't be judged by judges. I view these events as the chance to actually meet the people I banter with on line and to meet others who while not sharing a forum share my interest in plastic models. I'll also attend the Australian Model Expo as a visitor.
  19. I use a strong caustic soda solution to strip chrome. Caustic Soda dissolving in water is an exothermic reaction (it gets hot). I forgot just how exothermic when stripping some Revell 32 Ford suspension parts in a fresh batch.
  20. AMT old mould '57 Belair. First car I remember building and one i'd build again and again.
  21. www.thepartsbox.com do a resin hot rodded nailhead (3 deuces and lakes headers).
  22. I second Chuck. Super glue is ideal as it's a very brittle bond and doesn't chemically attack the plastic. Tiny amounts only though.
